MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Iron Man with She Hulk health. Jill with Ryu health. Arthur naked with Akuma like health, Arthur in normal armor with Morrigan like health, Arthur in gold armor with Tron like health. By the way does anyone know the exact amount of healh Arthur has in all his no armor and armor buffs? So far I know that naked Arthur has less than 800,000 health. I have no idea how much health Arthur has with Gold Armor activated or whether he gets a health buff from it.

I think Wesker is fine tbh, if they nerfed his health down to 1 mill I’d be fine with that. Gameplay-wise he does what he’s supposed to do, fuck shit up. Guy was godlike in RE5 and deserves to be in this.

i agree with wesker health dropping to a mill. other than that, he’s fine.

I laughed.

I’m definitely feeling the salt when it comes to Wesker and I won’t lie, I got blown up pretty hard by the Magic Man just now.

Comparatively to the rest of the majority of the cast, he just seems way too good. Everything about him is just rock solid. The health. The damage. The combos. The gun. The crazy histun on the gun. The teleport. The mixup potential. The normal dash that goes under projectiles. The lightning fast 2B that hits low and randomly extends its hitbox for apparently no reason. The fast, hard hitting normals that are all safe on block. The ridiculous speed, strength, range and blockstun properties on his LAUNCHER of all possible moves…

Sure, Wesker is somewhat less dangerous when not backed by a lead in assist like Doom’s Plasma Beam, Iron Man’s Uni-beam or Sentinel Drones, but when is Wesker ever NOT going to have these? Any Wesker player worth a damn is going to use them. But let’s say that you manage to somehow kill his assists. Now you only have to deal with XF3 Wesker, who gains one of the highest damage and speed boosts in the game.

I am not going to sit here and cry and say that Wesker is unbeatable; he is. I beat him quite often, though it’s almost always through a critical mistake, or series of mistakes that come from the player, not by exploiting a weakness of the character. Wesker *has *no weaknesses.

He, and a small handful of other characters, are so well rounded and defined as characters that they make a good chunk of the cast seem half-assed at best, and some - looking at you, Hsien-Ko - look like complete garbage. I would much rather see the rest of the cast brought up to these extremely good characters than to see them suffer nerfs, but honestly I’d support any changes that leveled the playing field somewhat.

When you’re like me, and you play characters you actually like (Hsien-Ko, Felicia, Morrigan) and you run into a team composed of say, Wesker, Dante, Wolverine or Taskmaster, the disparities really start to come out, especially if the player is solid with them. It just makes the game seem unfun and unfair at that point.

They gave Wesker a lot of strengths, but I think only a couple dominating things need to be changed. They don’t even need to touch his health.

  1. Reduce the size of his launcher hitbox
  2. Make it so that he can’t shoot the gun while jumping backwards (this eats Morrigan ALIVE)

Wesker is fine, he has a really hard time dealing with rushdown.

He uses She-Hulk/Wolvie/Akuma now.

Agree competetly. Being clever against Wesker is critical.

I lucked out in this game in that the characters I wanted to use since their announcement are all good. I play Makoto in SSF4 lol; feels good to be on top of the pile now.

That’s your fault for playing bad characters though. No one is forcing you to pick a bad team.

I’m intrigued by this claim. Could you elaborate on this? Personally, I am inclined to disagree for a number of reasons.

I never said I picked a good team, I said I picked characters I like. I do my best to make them work, and I have won my share of battles with them.

When you say, ‘bad characters’ - why is it ok that some characters should be good and some characters be bad? Why can’t they all be good? Why bother having the bad characters in the game at all, if the good characters are so good that they practically stomp on all comers that aren’t near their level of power? Why is welcoming an obvious imbalance of power within the cast something that the fighting game community - and seemingly only the fighting game community - openly embraces?

Why the fuck would I bother then?

Wesker and Wolverine are pretty good examples of why pixie like characters don’t deserve average or above average health.

If people played these characters at the events before release as much as they played Dante, Ammy and Deadpool, they all would’ve had 800K health I bet.

I remember people complaining Wolverine’s divekick not hitting overhead and the topic in the Wolverine forum when the game just came out asking “WHY DID CAPCOM MAKE WOLVERINE LOW TIER!!?”

Because my mind can be changed if presented with sufficient evidence, and I’m sure there are a lot of players out there that still struggle with Wesker who could use some good advice so they can adjust their strategies properly.

Replies like that though make me think you’re just blowing smoke.

I remember the Wolvering being Low Tier thread. That’s incredibly lol worthy looking back at it.

Rush him down maybe?

This.

Besides a lot of people still don’t know how to fight against Wesker.
It’s the same like it was with Sentinel in MvC3’s infant days, when peeps don’t understand, they cry foul.

Besides haggar, who doesn’t? Wesker is actually one of the people who deals with rushdown the best. Counters, a hyper counter that leads to massive damage and can be made safe on whiff by having 1 bar, a 1 f grab to punish gaps, jump back gun>teleport to gain back space and reset to neutral.

If Wesker has a hard time dealing with rushdown, I wonder how characters with ass pokes and no teleport and counters must fare.

As a Wesker player he isn’t fine. He has too much health for all the weapons he has. Great ground normals, 1 frame command grab which leads to full combos, amazing teleport which opens you up with a good assist, Mixups that literally chain into each other. Seriously it makes non sense why he has 1.1 million. He isn’t that bad against rushdown, sure he isn’t great, but there are a lot of other characters that are way worse. You don’t see other high health characters with all these crazy tools.

Exactly. Wesker is great in ANY position, and in any order in your team. He has all the tools available ( also remembering he can DHC glitch ! ). He has one of the highest HP’s in the game. I tend to like playing teams I want to play, characters I enjoy but like Ranadiel said, why bother ?. Looking at all the stuff Wesker has on paper, it’s retarded to think why someone WOULDN’T use him, I am honestly asking myself why I’m not using him. I couldn’t even imagine Justin Wong using him, Wolverine / Wesker / Akuma… fuckin free all day. And seriously 1.1 mil to 1.0 ?,that is not nearly enough of a nerf, I’d say 800,000, or 9… at the LEAST. Make him afraid to spam his teleports and get caught in a mix up, instead of spamming assists and teleporting in front of you fishing for an opening with nothing to fear.

Only hard thing Wesker ever has to deal with is against short characters like Ammy since the angle of his gun short doesn’t hit that low to the ground when he is in the air and it doesn’t matter much anyways since most of the short characters have low health anyways they usually die in one combo level one x-factor or an assist that helps Weskers teleport shenanigans. He does pretty good against Phoenix too. He needs a nerf like Sentinel. People will still play him after the health nerf just like how they still play Sentinel. Why you ask? Because Wesker is versatile to fit on any team and his OTG/low attack assist is too good. Would be perfect if they gave him the exact same health Sentinel has now. The nerf health tier. lol.
