MvC3 Actual Balance/Potential Tiers Discussion

Lot of reasons. First off you dont have to have THAT MUCH execution to get Magneto going. You need more then Wolverine but just to get him popping it’s not anything ridiculous. He’s like Dante where there’s the really good hard shit and then there’s fly MMH, fly MMH shit. Even those basic combos can set up easy solid damage and with a DHC glitch follow up allows a Magneto with average execution to look like 10 moar years. The good shit builds more meter and does more raw damage but literally once you learn how to move and fly around with Magneto…Magneto becomes a human mix up to your opponent. Once you get in no matter how good you areat blocking his ability to hit you with unseeable light overheads and force you into easy one frame throws that all leads to damage…you’re going to get touched by something. Like I explained earlier even if you have bad execution Magneto has so many ways to turn a dropped/reset combo into another combo that you get something even when you fuck something up half the time.

Plus a lot of the old Marvel 2 heads like Smooth Viper and Neo practically put the old MSS team on their team in Marvel 3. People like to see the nostalgia of Magneto making people pringles and Sentinel kicking people with purple Timbs.

Yea Magneto has the most effective flowchart ever lol

A couple of posts back I remarked that I thought Magneto/Sentinel/Dante was the best team in the game. As a pretty nooby player, this post now makes me want to play that team even more.

i agree with everything said there,as well as what chrisis said. mags doesnt REQUIRE super hard execution. how many mags are doing fiercex7? none of the ones i play do. and yet hes still nigh impossible to block, and has a great answer for predictable chicken blocking.

people pick mag cause they are used to him, he can be played with intermediate execution for very good damage, and has herp mixups, end of story (though its his mixup game that i think keeps bringing people BACK to him).
pretty much the same reasons why people play wolvie and wesker.

Thats why I think Mags is #1 in this game. He is a touch of death character (with DHC glitch but most if not all competitive magnetos have it) and that one “touch” is so free.

In my local scene i have an old school MVC2 top player that plays MSS or MSW (Mag/Storm/Sent or Wesker) and he wont drop the H x N shit for nothing. That old school execution of doing the MVC2 ROM all day lets him get into and do the MVC3 ROM equivalent stuff pretty consistent. Then you have some other guys that use Magneto that will drop combos more often and go for easier shit but they’re nearly as threatening because once Magneto is on the screen you’re basically already in a mix up.

Wolverine kinda has that effect to but at least you know without an assist it’s only going to be left or right for everything. With Magneto it could be up down left right sideways and if you try and jump away and he OS throws you in any direction you’re gone too.

@Chrisis: Like I said before I think a lot of your wins are more about your footsie skills than the actual characters you’re playing. You’re good at blocking, poking and counter poking so you can land that hit and kill even without super advanced mixups or combos. If you had consistent training mode I’m sure you could definitely show off some of that theory-tech you’ve been writing about.

Believe or not Marn is actually doing the EZ mode versions of Zero’s BnBs. Most others on stream are doing worse with day 1 ABCS super stuff. The new BnB (that was on SRK front page) does 1.1 mil for two gauges with 1 assist. Zero is a great rushdown character who has one of the best projectiles in the game. He’s definitely not overrated. Just his health and execution is discouraging.

Wesker can never be overrated, his tools are basic but they are so solid he will never be a poor character. One button projectile, safe launcher, 3 position teleports, 1 frame command grab, ridiculous health, XF bonus and meterless damage. Wesker’s ranking is just going to fluctuate from very good to great, really.

Same thing with Mags. That herp-derp flowchart just dominates. MvC2 Magneto resets? Lol no just mash jH and get random throws into full combos and full gauge.

If I could consistently do the seismo x tk feint x seismo string I would probably stop playing Viper except in tournaments. Theory fighter Viper is like the amalgamation of every god tier in Super Turbo put together.

Boxer: Godlike rush down. Check.
Vega: Crazy mobility, devestating pokes and once started a gameplan that when executed correctly beats out all options. Check
Dhalsim: Plan that is entirely based on the player making a mistake as opposed to their opponent doing something smart. Check
O.Sagat: Spammable ridiculous projectile that’s far too good by the standards the game sets. Check
Akuma: Infinite block stun. Check

I honestly hope Viper never gets optimized as it will suck to play. XD

As for Wesker, I think despite his strong basics people have a lot of room to develop how his tools work especially in relation to his command grab along with the new untechable throw information. I disagree on his health being a big issue thanks to what’s happening with damage in this game (Viper/Task/Etc) But I do think he’s pretty amazing.

Lol I didn’t know “Online” tier lists existed

Pretty similar to what this thread has discussed except for a few minor things. Good list.

Hmm, I can see a lot of this though there are a lot of things I find really bizarre.

Obviously normal disagreement with Viper bla bla bla.

Super Skrull seems pretty high on this list, he has some decent tools but it’s hard to see him up there.

X-23 looks slightly too low based on how many people are faring decently with her (Tatsu, 10 stars etc)

Dr. Doom looks lower than expected.

I’m incredibly surprised to see Felicia that low

Dante and potentially Dog/Task also seem slightly lower than expected, especially with the wealth of talk by other top players such as Viscant putting Dog at number 1, and how many WNFs have been won with those.

I totally agree with the captain being near bottom of the barrel however. :frowning:

made 5 changes as to how i see it ( made b-tier bigger), most accurate to what i think, list ive seen, with certain small exceptions…meh.

not sure if task is better than Dante though, his mix-ups are no where near Dante’s level

Online tier list don’t exist, but it’s obvious which characters are better online (Hulk Sent Akuma Deadpool Phoenix and other stupid shit like this)

Well, I didn’t change anything written, It’s just to see what the best players (Jwong / Combofiend and so on) agree on.

Appart from some characters (MODOK/ Shuma-Gorath / Super Skrull being way too high in this tier list / Hulk being too low), I think it’s pretty spot on.

Personally I see Taskmaster as a monster. Hard hitter, top 5 best point, big health pool, and some ridiculous damage off throws combo. His easiest bnb deals 600-650.000 and never drops. Can follow DHC glitch and KO anyone. Very good zoning.

i agree i definitely see task as right below the big 5 along with zero, wolverine, sentinel and storm hes just way to solid

if i had to guess, skrull is higher on that list because of i got you twice. dude straight up perfects alot of people, and before i left cali he’d take random games against justin iirc.

im absolutely no barometer for whats good but he perfected me in like 20 secs… damn near 2 games in a row, the first and only time i ever played him.
skrull can be an annoying lil fuck.

so his position is good in my eyes.

hulk probably gets too blown up by keepaway and run away for them to consider him any kind of high. hes best when people dont have enough respect for his version of “dat pipe” (standing h)

i think chris sucks. he has some of the worst normals in the game and gets rushed down pretty badly because of that and also his shit mobility.

but i imagine that with an invincible assist (hsien ko, tron, haggar), that should solve most of his problems.

however, he takes and does good damage though.

Interesting how Hsien-Ko is better than Joe, Thor, Captain America, etc…

Dante’s got that too. In fact a lot of top tiers have that. I think when the dust settles though it will be Mags and Dante that emerge top 2 because Mags is so free and fast in his movement, and Dante, while not as free, has such godlike safe strings/mixups and screen presence that he has just as high a ceiling. That what I think it ultimately comes down to when deciding whos on top. Touch of death character with free touch is top tier in this game, what makes Dante and Mags top 2 are the amazing amount of screen control + abare they have, and they have it differently, Mags for his speed and mobility, and Dante because of that big godlike sword and his 50 billion useful moves that make him a master of all roles and super safe at all of them as well.

I would put Phoenix in top 3, but I think her implicit broken mechanics limit her in a very serious way that Dante and Mags don’t have.

i dont think its in order
