MvC3: 2/3rds: The Morrigan Team Building Thread

just regular :] that should be a j.:m: sorry
j.:h: also works

^^ it doesnt need to be in the corner for the AV combos to work. they work anywhere on the screen.

Okay…the Morrigan forums are officially the least active MvC3 character board. Can we get some stimulative discussion in here ? I cant be the only person who loves Morrigan…

Anyways, here are teams that I alternate through that ive been finding a lot of success with:

Zero (Shippuga) / Iron Man (Unibeam) / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)

Iron Man (Unibeam) / Storm (Whirlwind) / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)

Thor (Mighty Smash) / Iron Man (Unibeam) / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)

Thor (Mighty Smash) / Storm (Whirlwind) / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer)

Morrigan is always my anchor because she is easily my personal strongest character (behind Iron Man and Thor).

Ive had the most success with:

Zero / Iron Man / Morrigan

and

Thor / Storm / Morrigan

iunno…just trying to stimulate some kind of discussion i guess

You are not
I consider you one hell of a great player since the guy forums.

That was your team a while ago.

And now you changed team :-m

Your Trish,Storm,Morrigan team inspired me to use metter intensive gameplay, and i created my style in a team of Deadpool, Dante, Morrigan.
The way i play with my 3 characters is a mix between pure keepaway (keepaway dante!) but with sudden rushdown bursts.
Having 2 teleports in my team allows me to instant “in your face!” when the opponent is frustrated, into one lolicombo.

Inmo, Deadpool and Dante are quite good vs Dormmamu, Ammy and Taskmaster, (three of the worst matchups for Morrigan), while Morrigan is great vs Magneto, and armor-characters (hulk, sentinel…).
I’m a weird Dante player, his huge moveset allows me to be creative and unexpected like deadpool, and that is perfect for my style.

At least, that’s the way i play. With morrigan as a metter builder assist i have enough metter to DHC back and forth, and do snapbacks if i feel to, so i am usually confortable in my keepaway/rushdown and i swith characters if needed, or force snapbacks.

I don’t play the point-anchor-whatever play. I switch characters a lot when needed, and force my opponent to do the same. I don’t believe in “x is my anchor”, and having enough metter to DHC safely is key in adapting my gameplan to whatever the opponent throws at me.

And, by the way… we don’t love Morrigan. Is Morrigan, in her succubus nature, that loves us

I run Magneto (EMD)//**Storm **(Whirlwind)//Morrigan (Soul Fist)

I generally try to cover w/ Storm while gettin in w/ Mags to ROM/Hyper Grav loop > DHC glitch to Morrigan. Im lookin for a higher damage combo to do coming out of the DHC.

Right now after DHC I use: c.M, c.H, S, j[M, M, H xx Soul Fist xx Fly, M, H, S. It works on everyone.

Another one I do, is: c.M, c.H, f+H jump cancel j[M, H, S] land c.H, S super jump cancel j[M, M, H xx Soul Fist xx Fly, M, H, S. This one isnt as consistent on everyone for not doin that much more damage because of the scaling.

Maybe I should work on some combos involving Shadow Blade cancels and see the damage difference.

Aside from that, if my Magneto dies I will try to lame it for a minute til I get enough meter to DHC safely from Morrigan to Storm. I like Morrigan as my anchor for the XF3+AV as well as being able to DHC glitch from Storm to Morrigan again. Also, IMO anchor vs anchor Morrigan beats Trish.

K1, you are not the only one to be fascinated by Morrigan. She is pretty unappreciated in this game.

My team:
Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer) / Akuma (Tatsu) / Dr. Doom (Plama Beam)
I’m a casual gamer. Been using Morrigan since Darkstalkers, MVC1, MVC2, CVS2, Pocket Fighter (lol) and even Cross Edge (not a fighting game).

I start the match with Morrigan because she is my best character and to me, she is good at almost everything from rushdown to keepaway and runaway. Although, she can do with a buff in the damage output department.

She may not be the most intimidating character at rushdown, but with Akuma’s Tatsu assist (as many people would know by now) she can keep the pressure on. And with Dr. Doom’s Plasma Beam assist, the opponent’s annoying assists can be kept in check and as well as allow Morrigan to get in. I also use Dr. Doom’s Molecular Shield assist from time to time.

In a match where Morrigan is on point, I try to cross up with her upwards air dash + heavy attack if I’m not throwing soul fists everywhere. I usually save the meter for Astral Vision, but if the opportunity to use her Shadow Servant OTG DHC into Akuma’s Beam Super presents itself (especially on 2 characters), I would spend it on that.

I use Shadow Servant to help counter rushdown and hyper combos. When Astral Vision is on, I use soul fists at varying speeds on the ground and in the air, while calling out assists until they open up for a combo.

I almost never use Finishing Shower. I use Darkness Illusion if I think it’ll KO the character I am comboing. I use Astral Vision and Shadow Servant the most. I am trying to incorporate Vector Drain into my game, but I always forget that she has it.

Akuma (who is also a favorite character of mine) and Dr. Doom (who is also a cool character) make for some reliable team mates for Morrigan. I know Morrigan can definitely be my anchor, but I just love using her so much to save for last on this team.

Oh, and I also use team Darkstalkers too.
Hsien-Ko (Pendulum) / Felicia (Rolling Buckler) / Morrigan (Shadow Blade) I’m not good with Felicia at all this time (although I was pretty good with her in MVC2).

I think Morrigan really benefits a lot from projectile assists such as Unibeam and Plasma Beam. Disruptor is kind of outshined by those two because the former two have much more projectile points.

@ Gainrrom: I actually use a team consisting of Wesker/Morrigan/Iron Man. IMO Wesker x Morrigan is a piss easy unblockable set up because of the Shell Kick being a multi-hit move. I find that Unibeam, unlike Disruptor gives Morrigan plenty of time to close the gap with a straight IAD, fire a soul fist, fly and then ADDF into H or Shell Kick. Shadow Blade and Unibeam are wonderful tools for Wesker to start an offense with.

Also I was wondering: do you prefer Morrigan on point, secondary or anchor? As said before she does great at being a secondary and an anchor, but I prefer to have her on point because my zoning team works efficiently with her on point.

I run:

Morrigan (Shadow Blade)/Dante (Jam Session)/Magneto (EM Disruptor)

The former team has given me the most succes because of the easy transitioning from rushdown to zoning and vice versa, but the latter defintely has it’s merits too.

Do I prefer Morrigan 1st, 2nd or 3rd?

I really don’t know. See, the thing is, if she is third or second other characters can accumulate the meter she badly needs, while at point position she can easily benefit from two assists to complement her game. In the above Wesker/Morrigan/Doom team I put up, I put Wesker on point as the ideal meter provider, but I really hesitated because of the potential for unblockables…

Then again, these positions are not fixed, and switching between Wesker and Morrigan is not out of the question once the meter has been built (which usually should not take too long with Wesker).

On the other hand, I just had a simple idea… how about putting Morrigan on point, with Ammy either 2nd or 3rd along with her meter providing assist? Of course, that would then mean choosing between a projectile or a low-hitting assist for unblockables…

Another thing, Chromecakes: I’m curious to know why you chose Iron Man over Dr. Doom. What can IM do better than Doom to compliment the Morrigan/Wesker duo? Also, why would he be a better anchor?

^^

I know the question isnt aimed at me exactly, but Iron Man has better DHC options off of Morrigan than Doom does…and IMO, Doom makes a better anchor than IM. Much better. IM has better approaches than Doom, but Doom has better assists. Its kinda just up to how you like to play I guess

Pretty much what K1 said actually when it comes to IM as an anchor. Proton Cannon is a wonderful hyper to DHC from/into for both Morrigan and Wesker. Otherwise there’s no reason that I pick Iron Man over Doom, except for perhaps the air Unibeams and Smart Bombs that allow for a degree of control on screen while in the air.

My question about Morrigan’s position in a team is actually aimed at everybody btw.

I dont like having her in the second slot. Her Hypers are weird to DHC into unless im doing the DHC trick. Shes good on point, but shes my strongest character, so i run her on anchor…it also works out nicely because my second strongest character is Zero…and well…Zero = point…lol

I tested it extensively, and it works anywhere on screen. You just have to DHC during Magneto’s pre-shockwave animation; the full shockwave will still come out, and Finishing Shower’s missiles will always hit the opponent.

im trying to run wesker on point with morrigan, but I dont know which assist to use. It seems soul fist is to slow to use with weskers OTG pistola combo extender. what should i run instead?

It works, you just have to use the assist right before the otg gun. However, Soul Fist has so little hit stun that the timing for punching/relaunching the opponent is tight.

As for shadow blade, even if it has more hitstun, it knocks the opponent too far up for any followup before they recover.

Guess you just have to practice that Soul Fist timing if you want to use Morrigan as an assist for OTG… however, I’d recommend either using her meter building assist so that she can get even more meter that she can use, or her shadowblade assist which can be used as an anti-air to help Wesker.

Following that, you just have to find another assist that will help for OTG combos. For that purpose, some of my favourites would be, in no particular order:

Doom’s plasma beam: good hitstun so you can juggle them some more, and double as a zoning tool.

Dante’s weasel shot: multi-hitting move that allows for easy juggling and, like Doom’s beam, facilitates zoning/teleport.

Chris’s submachine gun: same as the other two, good for juggling and zoning.

Chun-Li’s legs: Very good for juggling.

Tron’s gustaff fire: Duh.

funny i was thinking about using Chun-li as my third…her kicks did seem awesome.

I never really post on the forums but I just wanted to Thank K1 for 1) Keeping this thread semi active and 2) Helping me alot with Characters that go well with Morrigan. (Sorry if this seemed corny but I just needed to say it lol )

<3

^^ no problem buddy, just doing my part to try and rep morrigan

Its official:

My two main tournament teams are:

Zero / Storm / Morrigan
Trish / Storm / Morrigan

just depends on who im playing.

Zero / Storm have amazing DHC synergy by the way…and Morrigan can DHC into either Storm or Zero…

Morrigan > Zero = combo > Aerial Finishing Shower > Rekkoha
Morrigan > Storm = combo > air j.s > OTG Shadow Servant > Hail Storm.

okay /endrant lol

so ive established either I suck or I cant get wesker and morrigan to work as a team…i just suck…and general tips to help would rock so much…

^^ general tips regarding team building ? general tips regarding morrigan…in general ? lol
