Hmm, well Ive actually been doing well with regular Strider lately, hell I think Ive been doing better without Oruroboros than with it, so I cant disagree entirely, plus, I wouldnt waste so much meter if I didnt drop so many combos so all in all it might be a non valid concern. Even so when I get to strider with less than three bars it feels like I did something wrong.
Going for Vergil xf2 with vajra in the back is something I should probably implement more often though.
In your experience, have you found any matches that put you at a disadvantage by using Strider over Doom? So far other zoners with doom in the back are the only ones that Ive actually found myself having trouble with by using Strider over Doom, but Im not sure if its just a matter of getting used to it or if the difference between missiles and vajra is bug enough to turn a match from favorable to unfavorable.
Using strider over doom makes it harder to beat opponents with hidden missiles or their own strider assist. I wanna say missiles do a little better against skrull, but I consider it to be a bad match either way. I’d say it puts you at a slight disadvantage in general, missiles just control more space and do a better job of blocking your opponents ways in. I’d say vajra is better against a few characters like trish, storm, or dorm. It can also be better against people who are good at sniping missiles with beams, and since it’s a physical hit it can really mess up projectile counters. The main benefits of morrigan/vergil/strider are that you can TOD people without taking a chance on TACs and you’re left with 2 anchors that also happen to be a strong shell anyways when morrigan dies.
Sup guys, just started playing Morrigan, my team is Morrigan/Dante/Strider and I got a few questions:
1-What to do in neutral? How do I effectively use Jam Session and Vajra during Morrigan’s neutral game? What are my main tools to approach?
2-Should a I stick to not using Astral Vision at first to truly learn the characters in and outs? Also, how do I deal with teleporters without Missiles? I suppose improving my movement will help, but some other tips are always helpful.
3-About combos… Is it worth it to sacrifice damage for meter drain combos? I’ve extension of Dante’s TACs or DHCs that kinda minimizes the damage issues of this team until I learn her infinites, so I’ve been thinking about going to a different route with her (my other team is Dante/Vergil/Strider, so I’m kinda trying something different for a change).
4-About her infinites, do they work anywhere on the screen? What about the non-TAC one? Is it actually viable in a match?
Learn how to activate astral vision safely. Learn how to use it well.
When you run out of meter, then learn to play her without meter.
Jam session is good up close. Vajra is good vs opponents in the air further away. A lot of grounded opponents can punish vajra pretty hard, especially with meter and xfactor stocked. You want to use soul drains to stop this strategy sometimes.
morri dante isn’t going to really be killing too often. you can pop xf to kill a character but remember that strider is a pretty pure xf anchor. focus on your astral vision game for the main source of damage.
Make sure you have a good understanding of her mobility options, that way you can shift from defence to offence. Goes without saying, you will need to put out soul fists into fly. Soul fists placement is important in limiting a characters movement and assist calls. Try not to become predictable. I recommend you watch some archives of Chris G to see how he applies soul fists. Jam session can be used defensively and offensively but only up close, Morrigan can convert from jam session hit confirms. It can also keep a character in block stun for mix ups as well as limit aerial approaches. Chrisis uses Viper/Morrigan/Dante (Jam Session), hopefully he will drop by and provide further insight or just pm him - he is a well respect member of the forums. Vajra is to prevent players from laming out AV in the air, and Strider makes for one of the best XF3 users. Just be sure to cover him with soul fists when you call him as an assist, his low health means he is quite punishable if predictable.
If you have Morrigan on shadow blade assist, you can THC with Dante and since Morrigan recovers fast she can soul drain.
Yes, you should definitely try to use her without AV at first because she won’t always have the meter to activate it, and I think it’s the best way to learn her. With teleport characters, you will need to anticipate (predict maybe the better word) when they’re going to teleport so you can respond by ceasing the soul fist, fly, soul fist, unfly patterns. The worst that can happen is you get an untimely soul drain instead of flight. Maybe you shouldn’t use fireball patterns unless you have AV on, and instead go in after them. Sorry, I don’t usually play against teleport characters but I do know that Vergil is one of her worst match ups and he has a teleport. Skrull is also not fun.
Morrigan’s combos aren’t the most damaging, but you can get decent damage provided you do not start the combo with a shell kick or cr.L. Meter drain combos are handy to have should the opportunity present itself. To me, your team looks like it focuses more on control rather than power, so I say do the meter drain combos for it will allow for more AV activations. Her AV soul drain combos are definitely worth it and they’re damaging too, but I don’t think jam session or vajra would help with setting it up.
I believe the non-TAC infinite requires the corner, if you have the execution it is viable. The TAC infinite does not require the corner, and is more viable than the non-TAC one. I’ve seen people comment that it’s not hard to execute. Personally, I can’t do any of these.
I’m currently working on my first team, that being morrigan/magneto/dr doom. From what I’ve read and experienced, it seems like a really solid team. But after practicing with him for a while, I’m just not as enthusiastic about him anymore. I don’t hate him, don’t love him either. I would really like to replace him with Spider-Man. I want to learn magneto anyway just because it seems like a killer team but I will have way more fun with spider man. Does he work at all with the synergy of my team or should I just stick with magneto?
Yeah? That’s surprising. With his small hitbox, tricky movement arcs, and shot web, I would think he would be quite a pest to deal with. Maybe ill just keep him on the bench as an alt. I also want Phoenix wright somewhere, maybe those two can form a low tier alt team
I’d like to get some opinions on Morrigan team composition. I’m thinking about picking up Joe/Morridoom on the side, and I’m wondering if I should order it Joe/Morrigan/Doom, or Joe/Doom/Morrigan. The idea behind Doom second, would be that if I need to get Joe out, I would DHC all the way through to Morrigan, using Dooms super to cover Astral Vision, much like Dieminion does with Strange. And if Joe dies, the plan would be to escape the mixup with Doom, then DHC to Morrigan, giving her breathing room to set up.
Obviously, Morrigan is a less than ideal anchor if Joe and Doom get run over, but is it worth the risk for having more safe options to set her up? If Morrigan is 2nd, I have a slightly better insurance policy in the back, but Joe’s cannon super isn’t always enough to cover AV safely. And it could be really tough to setup with Morrigan if Joe dies. Any thoughts are appreciated.
spidey is solid vs other bad characters but he has no offensive way to deal with the “bs” in the game. that means he can try to run away from everything that is actually strong in the game, but cannot really put up a fight back. that’s a discussion for another board though.
joe/morri/doom and joe/doom/morri, it won’t matter. i’ll just say whichever one you’re better at tac infinites at should be second. i do think joe/morri/doom is the stronger order for a couple small reasons
-morri on incoming is fine
-dhc to morri costing less meter
-if doom gets hit as an assist and loses considerable health and joe dies soon, you have less life on doom to work with than if doom was anchor
-morri tac isn’t quite as easy or flexible as doom’s but it’s still possible
Morrigans really fun to me when fighting good players who force you to use your best fireball patterns and constantly think about movement and inputs. Against bad players though you really can just ‘spam’.
Oh for sure. I remember you saying Morrigan mirror matches we’re really fun, and now I understand. Actually requires thought!
Yeah, that team is so damn frustrating to play against. Since I play the matchup a lot I’ve gotten pretty proficient at fighting his Dante, but Vergil…If my Morrigan is dead, then I’ve basically lost lol. Most people have bad Dantes and I can win, but his is actually good>.>
Hey sounds just like me. Played Dante once at casuals and then decided Jam Session wasn’t worth dropping VergilXD
