Its a good team but its not S+ like some people hyped it up to be. Morrigan is great at getting away start of the round which is good for setting up Dorm. Use alot of soul drains to battery for a Shadow Servant dhc into stalker flare.
What the team suffers from is the fact that both characters/shells lose to the same characters badly. Vergil/Strier, Vergil in general and Zero/jam teams rape Morrigan and dorm. One of the weaknesses of the team is that none of the characters have any real ground movement or wavedash, so people can abuse you alot. Vergil can whiff unsafe helm breakers in front of your face and you cant do anything to punish.
I wouldn’t say no way to punish whiffed helm breakers. You can jump ADD j.H/j.M if you’re standing just outside of the range of helm breaker when it whiffs.
Been thinking about teams a lot lately, and wondering if I could get some thoughts on V.Joe/Morrigan/Dante. Basic gameplan would be to run away with Joe while building meter and zoning with Jam Session, then DHC into Astral Vision when the time is right. Seems like I wouldn’t get much damage comboing from Joe > Morrigan, but I would probably just go into Astral Vision after a Joe BnB.
Also wondering if Morrigan can get any use from Joe’s bomb assist. I’m pretty sure Dieminion uses Voom assist just to have an extra hitbox on the screen when Soul Fisting, but Joe’s bomb works well with Dante, and his Upper assist could serve as a decent get-off-me. Any notes are appreciated, thanks.
Humm…Seems like a solid overall team. She has TAC infinites in the corner and midscreen. so damage isn’t a huge issue (asides from TACs being brakeable). Joe is a little mysterious to me, I don’t really know much about him. In theory with that V. Dodge, comboable invincible ground super, comboable DP, and good screen coverage he seems really good. I don’t know what holds him back or what makes him an uncommon character asides from being slow and having stubby normals, but it’s not like he can’t cover his approach. As for Joe’s bomb assist, I guess it could act as a pseudo Hidden Missiles, breaking combos and scaring the opponent from coming in.
I would assume Joe isn’t “cool enough” as a character for many people to use him (no trenchcoat, no sword, no shades). Either that or it’s the classic case of why use Joe when you could use Magneto, or Nova, or Morrigan. It’s a shame because, imo, Joe is one of the most slept on characters in the game. Look at Dieminion, making top players using top tiers look like a joke. Granted Dieminion is a special case, he’s just an incredibly smart player, but even if he starts winning tourneys left and right with Joe, he’ll never be a bandwagon character, people only play him because they like him.
Team 1 allows you to TAC into Doom, aka infinites which = kill + meter. Doom gets Rapid Slash as a minor lockdown assist and incoming mixup helper. XF3 Vergil. Soul drain combos with Morrigan on point and you can use both assists (at least in the corner).
Team 2 allows you to DHC into Vergil for kills. More reliable than TAC, but you need to have sufficient meter. XF2 Vergil + missiles is scary, Vergil has multiple spots where he can call missiles for a combo extension. Backup plan Doom, Doom is fine on anchor once he gets momentum on his side. Same soul drain stuff as above.
Team 3 means Vergil doesn’t need to worry about an incoming mixup, and you can use DT and tag him out to give him a double jump and airdash should you want to play him in the middle or anchor. Vergil + Harmonizer + missiles = Harmonizer is amazing with Vergil since you can use it during Spiral Swords and DT. You can TAC into Morrigan and go into her infinite, which I personally find easier than Doom’s infinites. If I play Vergil point sometimes I play Vergil/Doom/Morrigan so I can raw tag Morrigan in after using DT and harmonizer, then locking the opponent down with round trip so you have excess meter + DT Vergil in position to get XF3. You still get soul drain stuff with Morrigan second, you just won’t get as many in with one assist.
Thanks Oerba, this clears up alot for me. I respect your strat of starting vergil for the DT hard tag swap into the anchor position. I gotta try that out.
How do you guys think morrigan/dante/strider does against moridoom? (I can swap to dante/morrigan/strider if that would be better)
My main team for a while was dante/doom/ammy, but dante doesn’t really benefit from doom/ammy too much.
I’m maining mags/doom/ammy currently, but I feel like the team loses to moridoom pretty bad, and I wanted a good counter team against it. I also wanted a fun secondary team to keep playing dante.
It’s solid. The main problem is that morrigan/dante/strider is a team that just doesn’t do damage, but those two assists are very good for her. I use vergil/morrigan/strider against morridoom teams and it works very well. I use meter assist to keep swords up often and disregard fireballs. You could try a similar approach to keep dante in devil trigger or just make good use of strider assist and teleports.
I actually think mag/doom goes fairly even with morridoom, so I’d also recommend to keep practicing that. Pay a lot of attention to assist calls and try to snipe their doom missiles while establishing yours. Respect AV, and just try to take as little chip as possible until it ends, and always look for air throws as morrigan is a character with no ground dash so she has to jump in order to really move. Doom typically stands no chance against morridoom but with the ammy THC, he actually has a way in and can even catch air fireballs that weren’t during flight. Still learn morrigan though, as it will probably help you understand how to beat her.
I couldn’t have asked for a better reply, thank you.
I never really thought about her only real movement requiring her to jump, I guess she is kinda of like doom in that regard, possibly worse since her ground dash puts her into the air. Very good info.
I’ll probably just play this team on the side since all the characters on it are fun
I think the best solution to morrigans lack of ground mobility is disruptor assist. The wolverine matchup feels way easier with that quick sharp shock of a beam controlling the ground, especially when you counter call their beam assist.
2nd to that is H shadowblade flight cancel. Get to almost super jump height with access to flight, soul fist unfly, air dashes and assists. GG’s.
I put Magneto second/first occasionally if I feel I really need that Disruptor for stopping assist calls. I tried using it against a friend playing Hawkeye/Missiles/Vergil and it helped a little bit. That being said, how do you guys handle the Hawkeye matchup? It’s not so bad if the opponent doesn’t have missiles, but with missiles it feels like a nightmare to me. I can’t get anything going, and it’s hard to rush in against Hawkeye’s j. H and Triple Arrow covering jump height. Piercing Bolt is equally frustrating to deal with. I’d like to play Morrigan in all my matches, but I feel like I should use Vergil/Magneto/Doom or Magneto/Vergil/Doom.
If you’re playing Morri/Doom/Dante just put Dante on point with plasma beam and harmonizer. If you’re using Doom/Ammy put Ammy on point I guess. If you land a hit and missiles are falling down, do a snapback before you launch and bring Doom in. Either that or find combos that push you past the missiles in the mid screen.
i honestly think harmonizer is not that good atm. it is useful in certain situations but you would rather have a hitbox assist in almost all other situations.
the only relevant times i think calling harmonizer is useful:
-vs astral vision morrigans that aren’t throwing out a lot of soul drains
-as vergil, abusing swords
-as zero, abusing sougenmu
