If you’re trying to make some kind of X23 team work, chances are I’m there. Lol.
I just tested on the vita and it is possible to do vector drain > log + dp super > followup combo. Probably a 2~3 frame link, but totally worth what you gain from having that option opened up.)
Ive just decided to keep Laura and Morrigan on separate teams. Its best for everyone involved lol. Right now im working with Coon / Morrigan / Strider. Some very interesting stuff so far. Nice to know about the log+Shadow Servant. Ill see if I can figure something out with a followup
Log trap does do wonders for her throw game.Eventually I’ll get around to seeing if I can get anything close to the effect from anyone else in the cast.
It’s weird that hardly anyone’s really put Morri/Dante into practice except Chrisis. I’m gonna run that shell at my locals this week with point Zero
Since I have Jam it means I can run Morrigan on Harmonizer unlike with Missiles where you need to run Shadowblade (though not a bad alternative for Zero). I can call her off screen and build meter obnoxiously thanks to his air H command dash taking him to super jump height.
Without Missiles it means Morrigan’s zoning game is somewhat weaker but Jam Session is more well rounded, it’s still a decent zoning option thanks to pushback on block and being a massive wall of durability, then it also comes with good startup and lockdown meaning I can mount a solid rushdown/mixup game
The theory behind the team is simply build up as much meter as possible for installs with all 3 characters. After watching Flocker at Final Round I’m convinced this team would be able to fight point Morrigan + Missiles teams really well. Zero/Jam can contest with Morrigan. If played correctly I’d have the advantage in the meter department, and Missiles assist struggles to get going vs any of my characters powered up
Eh, I worked with Morrigan / Dante for a while but I didnt like it to be honest. They can avoid soul fist stuff super easy for the most part if their character has any kind of air mobility. Its got INCREDIBLE lockdown in the corner though.
I personally think Morrigan / Strider is Morrigans best shell…at least in when it comes to Soul Fist strats. Doom allows OTG conversions, but I value Vajra more personally. Its better on block and WAY better on hit. I also think its attached to a better anchor, but thats just me. The big downside to Vajra is that its a physical hit, meaning strider can get bopped if you dont protect him, although the same applies to doom since he stays out for so long.
Yeah I think the idea with Morri/Dante is you just have to play more aggressively. Once you move near them with that assist they are either forced to take pressure and chip or generally be stuck at one side of the screen minus invincible/projectile invincible maneuver. People are used to playing really passively with Morrimissiles and Morrivajra because you can just sit there in a spot while you pray for your tracking assist to lock down for you. Dieminion still puts hella pressure on people with a sometimes assistless Morri and activates XF to speed up the process if needed.
I’m not a big fan of Strider assist anymore unless the point character can teleport. With teleport characters then can screw with the opponents movement and inputs and make it harder to avoid. Characters that don’t switch sides as a regular tactic don’t really make the assist as oppressive. Its too easy to use movement to avoid him and he doesn’t really do much blockstun. Meaning smart defensive play limits his strength in the neutral. Whereas forcing them to block jam session or missiles can set up a mix up opportunity much more easily. Plus the whole thing about the assist being entirely physical and non projectile based.
I prefer Dante anchor since he gets better damage output when you’re low on meter and has higher durability projectiles (especially in DT). His DHC’s are more potent also. Strider’s low durability on his projectiles makes him weak vs. several of the best shells when it comes to neutral fighting.
Plus Viper gets more with Jam overall. Faster start up, lockdown, generally strong for defensive purposes which gives her more time to zone and call harmonizer etc.
Yeah I actually think second is her best spot as long as your point can both cover the assist and make strong use of the additional meter. Funnily enough this is almost every top tier point (Zero, Viper, Vergil, Mags) and a couple others
You can’t really recreate the AV chip game with Jam Session to the level you can with Missiles or even Vajra due to no tracking. Really it’s more about using her mobility combined with the assist to stay hard to catch and forcing them in blockstun. Like I said, it’s more well-rounded but the zoning game is weaker as a result
Yeah I think it really comes down to who you have on point. If you have a point character that plays optimally with jam session, you should go with that. If they play optimally with missiles or vajra you go with that. Morrigan has a strong enough tool set to make all 3 of those assists work with a bit of a playstyle adjustment depending on assist.
Morrigan is very versatile in her play style so you can just create a new playstyle tailored to whatever specific assist.
I know Xian likes to use pbeam with his Morrigan/Magneto/Doom team since he seems to prefer pbeam for Magneto. Though I don’t think its worth depriving Morri of missiles.
What do you guys think of Disruptor as a primary Morrigan assist? It’s not so much an attmpt to optimize Morri, as it certainly doesn’t do that, but I’m looking to make Morri the point in front of xxx Dorm Mag.
Incidentally A Member of Stars above was asking about Morri Dorm xxx, and missiles obviously works well there, but I really don’t want to play a Dorm w/o Disruptah. Essentially the 2 things I want to be doing right now are 1. Morrigan 2. Disruptor Dorm. If those 2 things don’t mesh, I can live w/ that and get my fix via 2 seperate teams, but to make Morri Dorm Mag work is just fantastic.
I don’t think Disruptor-Morri is all that bad either, it just not her BEST obviously. Allioune does good work with it, and it does cover an Astral activation pretty well, as well as covering between Soul Fist xx Astral and the subsequent Soul Fists. Anyway, you guys think it’s just a pipe dream, or a sufficient 2nd-best Morri as a trade off for a 1st-best Dorm?
This is (and has been) my main team: Zero / Morrigan / Dante
Ive been messing around with some other combinations, and I cant seem to find a team that I really love / a team that im really happy with. Here are the characters im talking about:
Dante
Strider
Doom
Deadpool
Magneto
A combination of these characters is of course going to be used with Morrigan on the team, but yeah. I have been messing with Deadpool / Morrigan / Strider, and I really like it a lot, but to be completely honest, my Strider is pretty ass right now. Ive got alot of work to do with him. Other than that, my Deadpool, Dante, Doom, and Magneto are all very solid. I know of the obvious shells of Mag / Doom, and Dante / Strider, but is there anything else that yall could see that could be viable? Maybe Deadpool / Dante? Doom / Dante? Im mostly looking for input on DP / Morrigan / Strider, and DP / Morrigan / Dante, but anything else that yall would be willing to advise would be awesome.
Basically the only disclaimers I have when creating a team is:
I reallllly dont want to run Doom on anchor. I cant stand anchor Doom…im willing to run him second though.
My Anchor Strider isnt super solid right now, and ive got work to do with him.
xxx Doom Dante is VERY good, especially for Morri. Doom Dante has a good trick that lets Doom ToD or close on any hit. Combo to corner ending w/ S footdive, single missile OTGs on way up, xx THC. And for whatever reason, the THC does more damage than a lvl 3.
xxx Doom Strider is quite good, also especially for Morri.
xxx Dante Mag and xxx Mag Dante are both excellent. Both love eachother’s assists.
Breaks your rules:
Viper Morri Dante is Chrisis’ team and is very very good. Likewise with Strider in back.
Mag Morri Doom or Morri Mag Doom are also excellent. I’ve played the former a ton and, yep, it’s anchor Doom. But also two very powerful points.
I’ve decided to end my team crisis. Basically, I play 3 teams and just play the matchup. If you hate doom(like me), you should really learn strider. I did, but it does take time to learn strider. Just keep playing him and trying to improve. Seek out and practice efficient XF combos with him because it does matter and learn how to mix people up with his double jump or instant overhead if you can do it.
Back to the three teams thing I realized it’s sometimes more than 3 while typing this but I’ll explain it. My default team is morrigan/doom/arthur. If someone demonstrates actual arthur matchup knowledge or plays a good dorm, strange, or hawkeye then I will use morrigan/doom/vergil. If someone runs morrigan against me, then I will use vergil/morrigan/strider. Sometimes against Phoenix players, I’ll use morrigan/vergil/strider. In very rare instances if I feel it will do better than all my other teams, I’ll use morrigan/doom/strider.
Basically, my advice is do the same and just have a few teams. Morrigan teams without doom have more bad matchups, but can still be really effective in certain matchups. Try out the combinations you’re thinking about and really look for tech. I doubt anyone would have ever told me morrigan/arthur was any good, but I’ve found some nice stuff with it and I’ve got plenty of morrigan/vergil/strider stuff that only me and people who have played me have seen. So basically play a few teams and try new pairings out.
K guys, I’m in a rut since my Ammy is currently very poor and now I’m looking to broaden my horizons. What do you guys think would be a better “training wheels” team:
Viper/Morrigan/Dante
or
Viper/Morrigan/Strider
I already have a point Ammy team I’m working on to improve her (Ammy/Dormammu/Dante Weasel Shot, it’s also kind of a funsies team). But I’m open to opinions on this team too.
Both of those teams are godlike. Im working on both of them right now actually. Ive come to the conclusion that my main team is going to be one of these combinations:
