MvC3: 2/3rds: The Morrigan Team Building Thread

The problem is that I won’t pick EoA without other zoning assist (which I lack with Morri/Strange/Wesker)

Thanks for the responses guys, I remember those videos from a while back, and it’s nice to have them all in one spot

I typically drain meter with doom at the end of a combo (launch + missiles) m m h s souldrain flight souldrain unfly. This leads into a reset in the air for their character and you jacked a bunch of meter. If you’re looking to kill, souldrain fly shadowblade m + super in the air. You can then sphere flame with doom if he’s in your second spot (i use vergil and sword super and continue the combo). If you’re looking to do it TAC wise, remember that morrigan can cancel a TAC from a neutral state (basically, the xfactor cancel, she can do simply in flight) for this, I’ll typically launch superjump, j.H, soulfist H, fly, tac down/up, dash cancel it into tac forward. You can probably figure out a better combo to lead into it in the air, but that’s one i’ve found to be reliable

My controller broke and I replaced it. Came to find out the last one was defective and morrigan went from unplayable to chris G clone literally over night! Mad excitement! Mag morri doom is BACK! Lol

Anyway, I’m lookin to mess with a vajra morri team as opposed to a missiles team. I certainly get the idea of what vajra is accomplishing, but wondered if you guys had any tips on some of the specifics on when vaj is good to call? What is good to do before and after a call, etc. I get that its air coverage during astral madness, but figure jamming on the strider button whenever its available isn’t. The most strategic way to set up an oppressive lockdown.

Thanks!

morri-doom is good when the opponent is on the ground during astral spamming; hidden missiles just adds to the lockdown & chip damage. hidden missiles isn’t good when the character tries to stay in the air during morrigan’s astral spamming, and if you call hidden missiles when the opponent’s in the air, it keeps them in the air!
vajra will knock the opponent back down to the ground. even if you have the opponent blocking “bullet hell,” i’d keep calling vajra for extra chip and to make sure they don’t take to the skies.
i personally have dr. strange’s dagger of denak assist for morrigan’s spamming.

Whenever people SJ when I’m throwing out Soul Fist, I just SJ with them and fire off some. A lot of the time I catch my opponents doing a move or in flight, and they’ll get hit with 4 Soul Fist. It’s a pretty good deterrent:)

same here! especially against characters, like doom, who try to stay at SJ height to avoid the soul fists. i call dr. strange’s dagger assist, super jump, soul fist :h:, fly ,soul fist :h:. you can actually combo off of that, but it’s difficult.
i NEVER see morrigan players do that, and it makes me mad. they either don’t know to do it, or they don’t have to because they have hidden missiles.

What do you guys think of this idea?: felicia morri doom-b

My “main” for morri has been mag morri doom for a long time, and I’m really diggin the kitten lately. The main weakness is pretty apparent: felicia doesn’t provide the same sort of safe dhc option that also gets the morrigan engine started like a shockwave.

BUT, the compensating factor, in theory, is that morri gets not only missiles for running, but buckler for aggression, which I love. As with the mag variation, felicia acts as a battery, so morri is the intended point despite starting second.

Also note this idea works equally well with strider in the back. Maybe even better since felicia has the powerful self otg.

Thoughts?

Ive played some long sets vs someone who uses Felicia/Morrigan/Strider and its really really good. I’d like Felicia/Missiles too but I dont think she can protect missiles that well. Felicia/Morrigan/Strider is the same concept as Wesker/Morrigan/Strider. Vajra allows for all sorts of crazy command grab shenanigans and pressure. Felicia also has some cool stuff where she can use her meter build move in combos with Vajra.

Only weakness with felicia is that she wouldnt have a very strong super to protect morrigan when dhcing into astral. So you’d have to land the hit and dhc into her through a combo really.

I def be willing to do it with strider, but I’m just comfier with doom. Protecting him is, of course, of paramount importance. But I recall early on when ultimate dropped, shady k was running missiles-felicia (with drones too), and seemed to employ a ‘jump back, call missiles, air delta kick across the screen, repeat till something hits’ type strategy. You think this is insufficent protection? Between the frame adv of delta kick, and propensity for it to side switch, I figured doom wasn’t in too much danger. But I def wanna know if I’m wrong about that! Lol

When you played the aforementioned set(s), was he causing you much headache with the adf jS + buckler attacks?

That sounds pretty good actually. Just try it out and see how it works for you. And yeah he was doing the j.S + rolling buckler stuff.

You can probably get some morrigan + felicia tech by watching some of JJJ’s matches.

Re JJJ, wayyyy ahead of you on that one lol (if you recall, I pointed you twds him many months ago). He’s the reason buckler morri even enters my mind.

The trick is gonna be mitigating chicken blocking. Though vajra and missiles are pretty good at that. In fact this may be a team that finally allows me to utilize the missiles command grab trick (which I learned in the wesker context, but felicia should be able to use it) Ure prob already aware, but if you make someone block missiles in air, if you do a 1-frame command grab immediately when they land, they literally can’t escape (and felicias H cmnd grab is 1 frame like albert’s).

I really wanted to try a vajra morri squad too, so maybe this is the one. But I have NO experience with strider. It’ll sound silly, but I have no idea how to be broken (opening up nor killing on hit) with oroboros and/or xf. “Just mash!” Can’t cut it since block stun kills left/right stuff. If I can feel abundantly confident with stridska, doors shall open!

Is it work like killing phoenix tech?

Yes Gefen - it’s anti-phoenix tech.

I’m looking at picking up Dante/Morrigan/Strider, what are people’s thoughts on this team?

sounds like a great team to me. i run dante, morrigan, strange, and i can tell you dante in front of morrigan is very good for a couple of reasons:

  1. dante, or any character, can call morrigan’s meter assist during his combos, perhaps during blockstrings, and after he gets an air grab>rainstorm. (i assume your assists are going to be jam session, dark harmonizer, vajra). basically, just call dark harmonizer whenever it’s safe to. even if you don’t, it’s really hard to punish on reaction. this also means that you won’t have to TAC down as much, and you can focus more on side/up TACs.

  2. if dante’s million dollars gets blocked in the corner, you can DHC into morrigan’s finishing shower to make it safe and then follow it up with one of morrigan’s mixups. it’s in Darchon25’s second morrigan guide.

  3. morrigan can’t really defend against super jump approaches on her own, so jam session is a good assist for her.

  4. vajra is good for morrigan’s astral vision spamming. if the opponent super jumps at full screen in an attempt to avoid the fireballs, vajra assist will bring them back to the ground.

  5. the huge spinning knockdown-type thing at the end of dante’s million dollars allows morrigan to combo into finishing shower or her level 3 from full screen.

Yeah, I think the team is good too, couple things though. You’ll need multiple hits to kill a character, poor TAC options, and if they snap Strider you’re left with Dante/Morrigan, which isn’t horrible, but isn’t great IMO. Overall good (and fun) team:)

Morrigan doesn’t benefit too much from Strider. Dante to will have hard time without some kind of beam assist (Strider can try to fill that part, but it kinda ghetto)

I highly disagree about Morrigan not benefiting from Vajra. It’s one of her best overall assists, and quite probably better than Hidden Missiles for Astral Vision lockdown. Vajra is also one of Dante’s absolute best neutral assists, much like Wesker.

I played a set today with Morri/Doom/Strider for the first time in months. Holy shit I used this team wrong before I learned how to actually use Vajra with Morrigan. Also, I seem to have gotten much better with Doom by not playing him. Go figure.

Vajra is good for your rushdown game with Dante, much less if you try to zone (unless they really like to super jump for some reason…)
