MvC3: 2/3rds: The Morrigan Team Building Thread

Hmm, say I’m DHCing into Finishing Shower in the corner and they don’t die, what is my best option to open them up after the super ends?

Instant overhead while calling ne assist

Depends on the preceding combo. You always have enough frame advantage from Finishing Shower to link a launcher, which may allow you to do j.H and TAC back to Magneto. I really suck at Mag combos, so I can’t tell you where the threshold to not being able to do this is, but it works after launch to a single hyper grav rep at least.

I almost always TAC.

EDIT: Oops, didn’t see that you said DHC

Hmm I just tried this out, it doesn’t seem like the TAC works since they’re not in a launch state and I’m too far away after the super to connect a st.S

Are you holding up the entire time during the finishing shower? You must be doing the tempest farther from the corner than I am, but like I said, I can’t actually do more than 2 reps max of the hyper grav loop. Is your tempest air or ground?

im new to morrigan and trying to build a proper team out of the characters i can play. any thoughts on Magneto ( disruptor) morrigan ( shadow blade - for AA and holding morrigan assist while in block stun combos ( sorry forgot what its called) ) Sentinel ( drones)

Yeah I am it’s a grounded Tempest but I’ll try Hyper Grav stHS jH xx Disruptor xx Tempest DHC Shower into it later, not sure if it works though.

EDIT: hit 970k. It seems Shower pushes Morrigan too far back from the corner after Tempest to connect another hit.

Better going with Morrigan/Doom/Magneto which I’ve explained why it might be superior compared to Magneto/Morrigan/Doom (read older posts on this page).

Morrigan does benefit from drones, but not as much as from missiles. Magneto can do very well with both.

Magneto/Morrigan/Dooooooom. Should I use Dark Harmonizer or Shadow Blade assist?

Thats something Ive been debating alot recently.

Shadow blade:

+Pretty decent get off me assist. Not ‘mash it during block strings’ good but a well placed shadow blade assist can get you out of bad situations. Good for defensive play which is what most morrigan teams will probably be doing.
+Perhaps its most broken application is its crossover counter potential. You can get a full combo off it if you crossover counter into it during a blockstring and flight cancel the shadow blade. You could probably build back the meter you spent using the crossover counter, in said combo.
+You get an invincible team super that also OTGs. This can be good for some teams combo wise and in the neutral game.

-Hard to convert off of on hit, although scaling isnt affected too badly if you can convert.
-Hard to use in combos due to how far it pops people up. Might have some unique uses here and there for certain team combos but overall its not good for extensions.
-Slower startup and smaller hitbox than Haggar Lariat so you have to time it if you want to anti air people. You have to somewhat predict what your opponent will do to hit people with it. Its probably easier to get happy birthdayed using it.

Harmonizer:

+30% meter added to any combo which opens up alot of doors.
+Really fast and hard to punish assist.
+Great assist when you’re in the lead and want to run away.

-A morrigan team will always have doom missiles and when morrigan isnt on point, your 3rd character will probably need to be using a neutral assist to try and win in the neutral game. 90% of the time its better to call missiles than to call harmonizer. The time in which it takes to safely call/protect harmonizer will give your opponent a chance to start an offense on you and you wont have any missiles protecting you for insurance. Its only really worth using when you’re in a secure lead and can afford to run away. I feel like magneto is the only character who can really afford to use it constantly in the neutral game.
-Gives you a mediocre THC. Finishing shower missiles take up a decent amount of space but theyre slow and easily avoidable.
-As a crossover counter its pretty mediocre too. The only redeeming factor is that it gives you back 30% so you dont technically spend a whole bar on the CC. Shadow blade is hands down better as a CC.

So theres pros and cons for each one. I think harmonizer is better on paper but I also think theres more potential in shadow blade.

just to add on a little bit
shadow blade assist causes a lot of hitstun, even when hsd is ramped up. most characters can’t make much use of it, but for the ones that can, it’s fantastic for extending combos.

Mag should have no problem converting off Shadow Blade hits too. Tried it out for a while yesterday and j.H, add/f j.S into whatever works for me.

Yeah Ive figured out how to convert off it with all the characters I play but in a real match its tough to react to it hitting and converting in time.

She gets Shadowblade H as the assist right? That’s the one Shadowblade I haven’t practiced converting off lol.

What do you guys think would be the best team for Morrigan, with the main focus being on trying to steal meter from the opponent? Something I just thought about, because landing a combo and stealing meter would be devastating to so many teams, like anchor Strider teams.

Morrigan/Strange/Doom probably.

I figured it would be something like that. Wouldn’t hurt to practice Strange. What’s better for Strange, plasma beam or hidden missiles?

Missiles helps his zoning a ton and makes his damage retarded. You could also opt for Morrigan/Doom/Strange (Bolts) so Doom’s rushdown isn’t so ass, but then you would be stuck with solo Strange.

definitely morrigan + strange. have you seen that combo that morrigan can do with strange’s eye assist? i personally have some problems with it, but it’s cool.

can anyone think of something good morrigan can do with jam session against an incoming character? i usually call dante’s assist right before the character comes in, that way it’s hard to block, jump back, soul drain. they get caught in the jam session and i steal some meter. if they block it, i got some okay pressure. i like that setup, but i think i should be getting something better. maybe a combo or mixup that’s more difficult to block. any thoughts?

if finishing shower isn’t going to kill them, i probably won’t DHC in the first place. if my point character is bleeding or it’s a bad matchup, you might consider DHCing into astral vision for some free pressure. the chip damage from astral spamming might do more damage than finishing shower. obviously, if they raw tag their point character, the incoming character will take actual damage from the soul fists.
and finally, if i do decide to DHC into finishing shower even though it won’t kill, i’ll follow up with a :h: shadowblade (you’ll have to dash and do a shadowblade if you’re too far from the corner), fly after all the hits land, float back some, call dante’s jam session assist (it will be out of sight), and throw a soul drain. people are usually pressing buttons after teching the shadowblade, so they’ll get hit by the jam session and hopefully the soul drain. if they block, they’ll take chip from the jam session, which will probably kill them anyways, and i’ll float down+forward a little, do a down dash into shell kick pressure/mixup for the kill. the soul drain i threw earlier will give them reason to block.

i hope that’s easy to understand. if you don’t have an assist like dante’s, i’d just fly, soul drain, dash down, shell kick, and try to kill them.

I’d say if your plan is to steal meter using soul drain within combo’s then using any of these characters can help:

-Strange(probably the best with eye)
-Ammy(THC)
-Dante(THC)
-Iron Man
-Rocket Raccoon(Rocket being the second best for sure)

or other wall bounce, and ground bounce assist

I also advise learning Astral Vision combo’s as well as Astral vision + soul drain combo’s.

Here is some video footage for some theory put into practice
