MvC3: 2/3rds: The Morrigan Team Building Thread

You have to weight it against the benefit that other assists might have for your team, though.

Alright with the release of Ultimate I’m going to be devoting a lot of time to Morrigan and this thread, I apologize for starting this thread and then not having anything to do with it.
I hope K1 still posts here because he essentially kept with thread going, so i just wanted to thank him and anyone else who posted here frequently.

Discussion time! and something for me to put in the FP :]
What spot do you like Morrigan in and why?
if point or secondary, why type of assists do you think she greatly benefits from?

Honestly when vanilla came out i was still in school and really had no time to lab with morrigan
im going to lab with her right now and answer my own questions haha

Anchor, Dark Harmonizer, and she’s a solid XF3 character now that Astral Vision was buffed.

Yo guys! I’m running V.Joe/Vergil(Rapid Slash)/Morrigan(Dark Harmonizer)

Now, I didn’t think I’d run Morrigan in this game, but the meter nerf actually is pretty effective, while Morrigan’s super remains great too!

With Joe, I’m zoning with Vrang, calling in Vergil Rapid Slash to put them full screen (covering him with Vrangs of course) and building meter occasionally with Morrigan.

Now, I ussually got a healthy supply of meter, but even then I like more. So I ussually TAC over to Vergil when I get a hit with Joe. Sometimes I DHC or just die tho. As Vergil, my gameplan is completley opposite. Call Morrigan, Spiral swords, teleport/beserker slash all day. Its completley safe and hard to block. Theres also time to call Morrigan in during combos too. And finally during Spiral swords alot of the time I have enough meter to make a sword crown on them. Vergil/Morrigan BFFs?

Finally as Morrigan its pretty much Astral Vision X FACTOR Soul fist soul fist soulfistsoulfisfgftyheul

In short, I’m playing like Dieminion, only just a liiiiitle less lame. Just a little, haha!](‘http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoJ2QzAzQRw&feature=related’)

So to answer my own two questions…
I like the idea of morrigan as an anchor but I enjoy playing her on point more, and I believe there are stronger anchors who’s assists will help morrigan out.
Since morrigan has such a strong air game I think she would benefit a lot from a legit AAA, so I’m thinking dante, dorm, task or hawkeye… those sorts.
She also has pretty nice rushdown capabilities so I think a lock down assist would help here - so something like cold star or chun legs

so right now my team is Firebrand (hell spitfire) and Morrigan with DH (duh), so I still need a good AAA who will also be my anchor.
The reason I’ve got firebrand first is to get his Luminous Body up and tag or preferably DHC him out, so Morrigan can have a nice speedy lock down assist. Also, off of either of his Bon Voyages he gets a wall bounce where he ends up with his back right up against the edge, this is where i would throw LB and DHC with Shadow Servant, and get full hits.
So now I’ve got Morrigan in with Firebrand spitting shit all over the ground and (probably) hawkeye throwing shit all up in the air. Voila.

Also thinking Firebrand(spit), Ghost Rider(eh), Morrigan(duh)
same thing with bon voyage except to ghosty
jumpS + quick spit = lamest of all
and morrigan on anchor with all the meter she wants

Edit: Morrigan and Vergil and bbffllls for sure

Yeah, I definitely agree about vergil/morrigan being a great combo. I’ve been using it myself and really like how well they work together.

Right now I’m really liking Vergil(rapid slash)/Morrigan(harmonizer)/Doom(plasma beam)

Alright dudes, just wanted to announce my presence on this specific character forum. I’m not suffering from delusions of grandeur, I just don’t like feeling like a lurker when I need to ask a question and that’s the first thing I post on a forum

My main team is X-23/Wesker/Dormammu which has been pretty fleshed out so far, though I’m still trying to find new stuff all the time. The meter building aspect of X-23 (lvl3 setups) brought me to Morrigan, whom I had always been interested in through love of the character.

Instead of trying to combine the two from the get-go though (both are very hard to make work without proper team setup imho, and gameplay wise they do next to nothing for each other) I focused on building a team in which Morrigan can actually play a functional role in multiple ways.

My second team as of now is Trish (Peekaboo)/Morrigan (D. Harmonizer)/Dormammu (Black hole). I’ve only just started playing them but I like the synergy a lot and see plenty of potential in this team. Trish and Dormammu are both pretty independantly functioning characters that stand a lot to gain with meter to burn. Safe DHC’s all around, switching order is no problem as all are very decent (if not great) anchors when stocked with meter and XF3. Morrigan can (hopefully) switch from defense with AV (from being DHC’d in for example) to offensive lockdown using Black hole and high/low mixups. Same for Trish, though her zoning functions a little differently and her offense is more self-sufficient than Morrigan’s. Trish’s peekaboo covers Dormammu’s vertical blind spot somewhat and helps out in general defense. Dormammu with meter is a huge threat by himself and the assists of Morrigan and Trish both complement his game nicely I think. Also, I think the team is versatile enough that switching up playstyles shouldn’t be a problem, should one team member fall. That’s the theory behind it anyway.

Any people here who have tried similar builds that feel like sharing some secrets with me?

In due time I will see about that X-23/Morrigan combination, but the assist character in that team will need to have a stupidly good, stupidly versatile assist to make X-23 work, while also needing to function by him/herself and and ideally also thriving off of Morrigan’s assist as well (yes I know everything there points to Dante or Doom, but I seriously despise those characters tbh. I might reconsider just because they simply add that much more to a team.)

edit. Forgot to mention that they are all flight characters as well, so TAC’s are worth looking into and could potentially lead to some advanced combo material.

Why don’t we have a main Morrigan thread? lol…

For an update on my own team, I found an unblockable setup after snap-ins with Firebrand x Dormammu x Morrigan that kills entire teams. I actually perfected a guy twice in a row last night because after I touched his first character, he couldn’t do anything but watch himself die for the next 40 seconds. I wish I were exaggerating, I feel so cheap doing it. Characters with air dashes and double jumps can get out of it, but that’s pretty much it.

The setup below:

  1. Any Firebrand combo; perform Bon Voyage at some point, dash back after the wall bounce, s.H, snap.

  2. Dark Hole, Demon Missile H - you need to do these really close together or it creates a gap.

  3. Opponent comes on screen and lands in Dark Hole.

  4. If opponent blocked, Demon Missile H hits; combo from here is:
    j.H, d.H, qcb.L, c.MHS, Dark Harmonizer assist, sj.MMH, qcf.S, back dash, s.H, snapback

If opponent got hit by Dark Hole, remove the c.M from the combo or the second half of s.H will whiff.

If opponent landed because you screwed up the timing by a few frames:
j.S (you’re in the air from Demon Missile H), c.LMHS, sj.MMH, d.H, qcb.L, c.HS, Dark Harmonizer, sj.MMH, Bon Voyage, dash back, s.H, snapback

  1. Loop the setup until your opponent’s team is dead. Dark Harmonizer allows Firebrand to build just slightly over 1 bar with each snap-in. You can do this forever, and it’s completely unstoppable against a good portion of the cast. If your opponent has an aerial hyper like Shinkuu Hadoken, just watch for the flash and release Demon Missile H early - you’ll out-prioritize if you do it right.

Could a more experienced Morrigan player take your Dormammu guide template and do it for Morrigan? It’s an obscenely helpful resource and I can testify it helped me get through some of the frustration learning how to play Dormammu (and fighting games in general).

I actually went around pre-release and offered my Microsoft Word documents up for anyone who wants all the formatting work done for them. No one in the Morrigan forums seemed interested. That being said, I think a dedicated fan of the character, willing to put time into the thread, matters more than how good you are with the character, as long as you aren’t trying to preach about things you know nothing about.

Edit: Oh, and the documents are still up for grabs. If anyone were interested, they could just PM me their email address, and I would send it all along.

I’ll need to try out that Dorm/Firebrand set up, it sounds pretty nasty, and if anyone wants to make a main Morrigan thread with Karsticles’ template that would be dope.
So I’m pretty sure I have my team solid and ready for some intense labbing.
Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer), Chun-Li (Legs), Spencer (Slant Shot).
Legs works great to keep the opponent locked down in Morrigan’s rushdown gaps and air M. fireball x fly, call spencer, AD down x drill is really nice.
Spencer is mainly there because chun can get a Kikosho after a long combo with Slant shot, and because he’s an incredible anchor.

Need a little help. At the moment I’m running, Vergil/Doom/Morrigan & Morrigan/Vergil/Doom. I need some help in deciding whether to have Morrigan on point or as an anchor, what do you think would be best suited? I’m willing to swap out Doom for whoever, I only use him for Plasma Beam assist.

Been trying out Karsticles Firebrand/Dormammu/Morrigan in the lab and it seems to be a really solid strategy, however I lack experience with Firebrand and Dormammu =(

I’d go with Vergil/Doom/Morrigan, her meter assist is really valuable here for Vergil’s point game.

Just for fun I decided to see what hypers can DHC into Astral Vision and give Morrigan time for a Soul Drain:
Lunch Rush (two!)
Servbot Surprise
Ice Storm
Sentinel Force (not very practical in application, though)
Strider’s Legion
Round Harvest (not practical)

Hypers that let her combo into Soul Drain and continue on into a full combo; a very incomplete list, but:
Elemental Rage
Bionic Arm
Bioweapon Assault
Biohazard Rush

Basically, any hyper that:

  1. Caused the DHC glitch in Vanilla; the spinning knockdown still works. Just throw out a Soul Drain, fly-cancel, and do your thing.
  2. Ends in your opponent flying into the air via a ground bounce or spinning knockdown.

Mad Hopper works too! In the corner Morrigan can get two Soul Drains if she calls an assist in between (I use Vergil’s rapid slash). And I think she can combo off the second one as well but I haven’t been able to, seems a little bit tight.

Who do you guys feel would work well in a Vergil/???/Morrigan team? I had a novel idea to put Ammy in there and then essentially be Demitri/Talbain/Lillith, but gag aside I don’t think her low health with Vergil is suitable for me despite the great synergy. What would you guys recommend also fits that team and isn’t Doom. Nothing against Doom it just seems like too simple of an answer since he makes every team better. Open to any suggestions really, thanks.

I was thinking of putting together a Vergil/RR/Morrigan team but im having trouble figuring things out in the lab… Anybody else try this team out yet? Is so, care to share what you have found?

I’m considering putting Morrigan on point. With Soul Drain, assists really do matter for her now, because they let her combo into it. I’m sure most assists make this possible, but some really, really basic combos to demonstrate the concept:
c.MH, f.H, j.MHS, s.M, call Dark Hole, s.H, qcf.S, qcf.AA - does about 520K damage
c.MH, f.H, j.MHS, call Sentinel Force, s.MH, qcf.S, qcf.AA - does about 550K damage IIRC

With the proper team, Morrigan might even be able to use two assists mid-combo and get multiple Soul Drains off. Both of these combos worked with Astral Vision up.

Also, its not a big deal, but call Sentinel Force, Soul Drain, Soul Drain combos - all of it.

Vergil works well with a good OTG assist. Maybe Wesker? Then again Vergil needs a good assist so he can utilize his Teleports much better then when they’re on their own, hence why I have Doom.

Do you guys think on Storm/Vergil /Morrigan or putting Vergil on point instead? My best characters are Storm, Vergil and Morrigan so I want to be able to use them all in one team.

I would put Storm first. Elemental Rage -> Utility hyper is pretty useful.
