MvC3: 2/3rds: The Morrigan Team Building Thread

This has been a team ive been having decent success with in this game:
Morrigan [soul fist]
Tron [gustaff fire]
Frank West [shopping cart]

Obviously this is team rush down. When I have Tron the shopping cart helps me lengthen my combos. Morrigan can rush down pretty well when assisted with Tron and Frank.

with lunch rush you can actually build more meter than you spend i believe.
tron’s basic BnB builds a little more than half a bar - lunch rush - dhc to AV and with two soul drains you build a whole bar dayum
and im pretty sure you can get st.S, jc, j.H, j.S
maybe even an exchange

I think Dr. Strange along with Morrigan’s meter assist is pretty nice. SoV is just an amazing level 1 hyper and I’m seeing plenty of players just using it so much till they have zero bars left. In addition I think Morrigan’s a great anchor too with her chip ability in AV. She’s not too reliant on assist anyways, don’t you guys think so?

My morrigan team so far is
Morrigan(Dark harmonizer) Doctor Strange(Bolts of Balthrak) Doom(Hidden Missles)
2 Doctors and a Demon lol, been working good for me so far, Missles to help chip/keep away/get in game with morrigan, Bolts to add on the getting in and combos with morrigan so basically a keep away team

boxers arthur is the key here. HILARIOUS team! too bad we don’t have merman captain america anymore. that would be awesome too.

I want everyone on this forum to post here on what they feel the best 5 point characters in this game are without assists. However, your opponent has full access to assists.

That means that you have to tell me what point character would function best against:
Hawkeye + Hidden Missiles
Wolverine + Tatsu Assist
Dante + EM Disruptor
Hulk + Sentinel Drones
Wesker + Vajra

Etcetera. All of these. What characters can best handle all of those excellent, strong combinations alone?

You can assume you have an abundance of meter, if that’s important.

Yes, this is for my team, which is:
??? / Dormammu / Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer).

The team order, and Dark Harmonizer, are not open to being changed, but I’m open to any of Dormammu’s assist options. I’m curious if people have answers I have not considered. Ideally, the character benefits Dormammu and Morrigan in some way in case the team order gets funked with, but that’s ideally, not necessarily.

Thanks in advance to anyone who puts some thought into this.

that’s tricky i don’t think those combinations should lose to a single char
but brainstorming;

zero is first that comes to mind
viper but i may be a bit bias but i think she has the tools but purification should help her with her weak spot
strange i don’t know much about him but he just seems to have things that could shut down things
ammy maybe

i really only think zero and viper have the best chance at handling it

also when i use dorm i only use dark hole assist so i’m not sure how fast purification is and if vajra tags him will the pillar still come out? and where does it come out in relation the the character calling the assist if it’s a little behind then i like it a lot

I’m not quite sure he fits your criteria Karst, but I do think Doom would work out well for your team. I think Doom could get some decent mileage out of either Dark Hole or Liberation assists, and Morrigan loves the missiles, and I can’t see them going wrong with Dorm either. He’s also a crazy as hell battery, especially with Dark Harmonizer. Plasma Beam and Photon array zoning while hiding behind a Dark Hole actually sounds quite fun in fact. Air Photon array should DHC quite well to either Chaotic Flames or Stalking Flare, and you’d also have the epicly awesome(and probably overkill) DHC of OTG Air Photon Array to Dark Dimension.

I also agree with the Zero recommendation. You can do some excessively lame ass shit with Harmonizer and Sougenmu.

Guys i need help, my team is Morrigan/Task/??? I don’t know who at the end will be best. The general idea is to get as much damage as possible trying to get it with Morrigan (Air soul fist + Task arrows).
Now the last character can be one that should protect morrigan from tele characters and help task lock down better, I was thinking Dante jam session. Can’t think of any other.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

Ammy (suggestion to both Karsticles and nappydude), Doom or Sent

trish peekaboo
iron man repulsor blast (speculation)
r.raccoon claymore for ground based teleports
i also like hsien ko’s henkyo ki but i wouldn’t recommend it
and i’ve heard arthur’s heavenly slash has interesting properties but i haven’t tried it out so it’s just hearsay

I’m running a similar team, albeit different order Nappydude. I’m running vergil/task/morrigan. The team has a good foundation since all 3 characters are played extremely differently, and therefore works against a wide variety of teams. It can rushdown, range, turtle, etc.

Vergil on point is fantastic with task arrows backing him up to get in.
Task can turtle very well with morrigan building meter on cooldown
Morrigan has her air game, and can cross up with task arrows (you can call assists in flight from jump height, just not super jump height)

Vergil can dhc into task up arrows (if you delay the task arrows long enough, they will hit the opponent onto the ground instead of hovering them in the air - you can follow this up with shadow servant for easy kills)
Vergil can dhc into morrigan’s shadow servant or missile super (haven’t tested which does more damage). Either can be followed by task diagonal arrows

Task can dhc into vergil or morrigan very easily. This creates very good synergy for an extremely meter hungry team. People will get through my vergil and task wall only to be hit by a different playstyle from morrigan alltogether.

The mentality i went into the team with was that if you have morrigan on anchor, you need a point character that uses an assist to get in, and that assist needs to be self reliant (vergil + task accomplish this)

Ran the ranked guantlet 2 days ago for the first time, lost my first game (inputs werent going out for some reason) won the next 32 in a row (2 rage quitters). Hopefully this helps you guys as you’ve all been a great help to me

New fun theme based team i’ve been messing with for a couple days. Vergil (rapid slash), Morrigan ( harmonizer), Dormammu (Dark hole). Morrigan and Vergil actually trade positions throughout the match depending on match ups and how comfortable my opponent is getting with their mix ups and approaches. Both get a lot of benefit from Dorm’s assist as far as I’ve seen. I need to get my soul fist spam skills up in order to fill the screen a bit better but dark hole makes up for it.

Any suggestions on how this team may work or work better? I’m just kinda playing around with it currently and I’m VERY unfamiliar with playing Dorm

Sigh! Ok guys Morrigan is so freaking mobile
So i decided to have Morrigan/Task (horizontal)/ Trish (Hopscotch)

i noticed that when u pair sent with morrigan people tend to play u different…sorta like u have phoenix on your team , they kinda force the issue and often get punished in their haste to make u stop building meter…i play a vareity of morrigan teams …mag sent morri/ jill morri phoenix/ viper sent morri /viper doom morri @ the end of the day morrigan cleans house !!!

Hi! I’m very much a beginner to this game, but I’m hoping to change that. My favorite character is definitely Morrigan, but I’m a bit confused on exactly what Morrigan’s role for a team is.

Morrigan’s assist will almost certainly be Dark Harmonizer, which means that one of my 2 assists will be devoted entirely to meter building, which then means that for my other assist, I can only choose one of projectile, beam, defensive, OTG, etc. assist, and that is a little worrying. (Although most characters probably don’t need 2 assists anyways.) That being said, which assist (or type of assist) works best for Morrigan anyways?

Also, does Morrigan function best on point, second, or anchor? On point, she would be unable to use her assist, so I’m leaning towards 2/3, but I don’t really know if Morrigan should be my anchor.

And finally, does Morrigan generally make a lot of meter or use a lot of meter? She can use up a lot of meter with Astral Vision, but if you land just a few Soul Fists, it can totally pay for itself, which leaves me confused.

Any help for a struggling beginner? Thank you in advance!

I’m definitely not at all qualified to say anything on this matter, but maybe begin with Morrigan on point instead of Vergil? I think Morrigan might be safer on block than Vergil, and once you get that first hit in, you can just Spiral Swords DHC ToD the opponent and keep the combo going instead of trying to start the combo with Vergil, which might be risky.

Just a note, it looks like Morrigan might be able to use Ghost Rider’s Chains of Rebuttal mid-combo to get a Soul Drain and keep going.

c.MH, f.H, j.MHS+Chains of Rebuttal, Soul Drain, Fly-cancel, hold forward, j.S. I could only get it to work once, but it works - my execution blows.

lol. Morrigan/Dante/Dr. Doom lets Morrigan combo into Soul Drain three times per combo in corners.

If you have a bar for Astral Vision, I think maybe even 5. Definitely four.

Edit:
Oh, and I don’t even use Dante’s assist. And I was mistaken, this works from anywhere.

Simple combo:
Anything into Morrigan’s launcher, call Hidden Missiles simultaneously with launcher.

Mid-screen:
As Morrigan lands, Soul Drain, fly-cancel, move up-forward, airdash down-forward into j.S, relaunch into whatever. When you land, THC. Dante’s Million Dollars will keep your opponent held long enough to either:

  1. Soul Drain twice.
  2. Soul Drain, cancel into Astral Vision, Soul Drain once.
  3. Maaaaybe Astral Vision, Soul Drain twice - I can’t get it to work, but it feels like it should.

Corner:
As Morrigan lands, Soul Drain, wait for Hidden Missiles to hit, s.S, sj.HS, THC, etc.

The fact that it doesn’t even require Dante’s assist means you can set it to whatever you want to help Morrigan get in.

Small Update:
Hidden Missiles actually lets Morrigan combo into Soul Drain twice in corner if you can fly-cancel the first one fast enough.

So, the full combo if I wanted to swap Firebrand out for Dr. Doom on my team (Firebrand also lets her combo into Soul Drain, BTW):
c.MH, f.H+Dark Hole, j.H, qcf.S, qcb.S, air dash df.S, c.MH, s.S+Hidden Missiles, sj.MMHS, qcf.S, qcb.S, qcf.S

3 Soul Drains, 412,300 damage, or omit the third Soul Drain for 500K damage.

Morrigan is so damn fun to use. I think there’s very few characters that are as versatile as she is and she has great hit boxes and frames like Chun Li, but completely more versatile on offense and defense with the right assists.

Love 2nd spot for her a lot with doom missiles backing. Theorized using Hawkeye (greyhound) / Morrigan (harmonizer) / Doom (missiles) before the game came out and outside of me sucking at doing combos with Hawkeye it works almost exactly like I wanted.

When it comes to Morrigan, Doom missiles gives her everything. Call doom missiles, super jump up shoot a couple flight cancel fireballs, free astral vision activation. Sounds like he sets up soul drain combos for meter build nice for her also. Morrigan + Doom Missiles is mad BFF shit. Especially since the missiles negates their advance guards and covers your air approach to get in. Her meter assist makes Hawkeye extremely fun to play also. Always got kiss of fire or gimlet ready.

Her meter assist is way too good for lame out or meter driven characters so I definitely like the second spot so someone can take advantage of her unique and extremely hard to reaction punish meter assist. The only thing that really gets harmonizer assist in trouble is guess rushdown which you can always space yourself to avoid. I usually start out calling doom missiles and then when they are push back shoot more shit while calling on morrigan for free meters. Doom missiles plus shooting shit already builds great meter for Hawkeye and then even more free meter when you call Morrigan.

Point spot is also great for Morrigan because with the right assists she’s extremely tough to land a clean hit on and you’ll build good meter just hitting people multiple times. Her decent health threshold at 950k helps with the cause (although you’re still going to get ruined by TOD characters of course). I don’t see any reason to use Morrigan as anchor anymore unless you have a team that’s gdlk from the front. Morrigan + missiles first or second with abuse of her meter assist is hella strong as is.

I run V.Joe/Vergil/Morrigan because Morrigan’s assist just goes too god with Vergil, and V.Joe is a personal favorite character of mine that can call meter assist safely(who can’ tho?) and zone or rush down with Vergil assist. However, I do like how versatile Morrigan is- sometimes when I get three bars of meter I just DHC over to Morrigan’s Astral (getting DT’d Rapid Slash along the way) and just zone hard or go in with Rapid Slash backing me up.
