MvC2 today

Is it just me, or does it seem that there is not as much competition in the scene today. I don’t mean the old school players like J Wong, but I mean that there are hardly if at all any new players within the last 2 or so years.

It seems that the usage of MSP, MSS, Team Scrub, or any top players teams have completely scared shitless any new MvC2 players, AND to top it off, if there are any MvC players, they are fuckign scrubs, becasue they all pick Cable and spam HP then viper beam, or they pick Wolvie/Spidey/Strider and the like, and expect to win since those 3 suck togetehr. Does anyone think that MArvel will pick up again, becasue nowadays 3rd Strike is most often played now since MvC2 became a madman’s game.

I think many people are discouraged and seem to think that Mags teams ALWAYS own and never bother trying to one day beat him/them. Im not bashing Mags, or the people who use him, it takes godly skill ot use him, but so do alot of low tiers, and once they have been mastered, an advanced Omega and Anakaris can take on Mags head on.

Are there any suggestions as to how new player can be encouraged?

In my arcade at University of Calgary, I was the last new player to come, and to top it off, Ive only been playing a year and a half, so when I got there, I sucked ass, compared to the ONLY 14 people who played the game at the time I got there. I have gotten fairly good, but I dont use Mags yet, I use my low tier asskicker team Omega, Samurai and Anak. I have used this team since I frist started Marvel, and have one numerous times. When I picked this game up, I had NO IDEA of the MAgs infinites or Storm Rushdowns or Cable AHVB 4x, adn so I played it without worry, but once I started to face them, I myselg was discouraged to play because I never thoguht I would be that good, however I realized that it took good asskicking for me to get good, and now I am conisidererd by many people at my arcade for only a year and half with low tiers to be a very skilled player.

Does anyone think taht maybe there should be restricitons put on using hi tiers by the users and go low tiers so that it at least encourages new players, to leanr, then go back to hi tiers
?

I look forward to any opinions.

It does seem that a lot of new players do get discouraged when starting on MvC2 often times moving to CvS2 because of the “slower” pace. I for one don’t consider myself good, but also dont suck, guess im inbetween. But point being I think if people stop out right raping people who dont know how to play to the point where they can’t move, more people will try it…

I play at SFSU because im a student there and just play for fun. Through my 4 years so far being there i can only think of maybe 7 people at most who play that game, aside from when we get some comp from berkeley which is always fun :lovin:

But back to topic, lots of new players either just think too much is going on, no way around god tier, or just aren’t given a chance to even try the game. So to everyone who has some knowledge to this game and play against new comers, give them a chance  , but if their runaway trying to chip you to death new comers :annoy: … RTSD and rape them!

Honestly, I cant get into the game. I play low tier teams for fun and if I ever seriously played the game, my team would be ruby heart / storm (or sent) / doom just because ive never seen anyone play this team well and i like ruby heart.

Im a CvS2 / 3s / Tekken player more than anything though. I just cant get into the RTSD playstyle of MvC2. Then again, if i’m playing K-sagat…

Whats funny is new players get “scared” of magneto when it’s Storm/Sent that win most matches.

yeah look at jmar… in a good match he always loses magneto or gets him raped, then his storm/sent rapes… it seems like he’d rather have storm/sent alone then with mag assist

when i see someone new step up, i just do air combos, i don’t bother to tri jump with, or storm, and don’t stomp with sentinel.

i try to teach them how the game works, how certian moves are performed, etc., but i live in MIA so not many people try to learn anymore, and never comeback to play or just watch.

BTW the only difference in Marvel since back when it came out to now, is that a scrub can learn mag, and think he is good.

I think it’s due to all the Magneto is broken you here alot of people that aren’t good think about the game. Like when you see vids such as:

or

Kind of seems like he’s broken having infinites and such. But I never really cared. It’s my second favorite game to play since I got it a few months ago.Using Sent,Capcom, and Strider right now.

wha…wha… what?

Everyone I’ve tried to get into marvel is scared because they’re used to really slow games like CvS2, then they make lame ass excuses like “I cant stand broken games”. So since Magneto and Sent dominate they dont take skill and cant be fun?

“MvC2 is too broken” always translates to “I play too much CvS2 and dont want get my shit rushed down by magneto”.

snakedizzle is right, most ppl who say mvc2 is broken do play too much cvs2.
People in Cvs2 and to a small extent in 3rd Strike can turtle for a while or just parry ( this takes skill mind u), or in Guilty Gear or SOul Calibre one can mash the fukcing buttons until u have no more hands and still win, or even in the old Marvel vs games, u could mash and maybe still win. Even in Tekken, u can continoullay rush adn stop, however mind you I think that Tekken is still slower.
However in Marvel 2, u have to KNOW what your opponent is ogign to do 10 seconfs before they do it. Your timing and blocking must be so DAMN precie if u want to live wiht characters that hav low stamina. Marvel is a fast paced game, and it is almost impossible to turtle, u can still keep away wiht Cable and Omega, but even keep away in Marvel requires skill, becasue u cant spam fukcing Guile’s Sonic Booms onto the screen and expect Omega Red to block it when he can just cancel it with his Coruching HK. The possiblites of combos and attacks ae ever endless in MvC2, and most ppl will counter a combo once they have been played against it for a while, requiring NEW strategy. However, like everyone else, no one will learn all of this on their first try. For the sake of fuk, Jusitn WOng was probably a scrub before he got good, everyone damn one is. I would kill to find out how you could automatically be a master at any game anyone pick up, but the truth is, EVERYTHING TAKES TIME AND PRACTICE.

However, when ppl do pick up this game, they pick Cable and Mags and Sent, then think they are the shit all the time, and this is not for just a month, this is like forever, they spam Cable’s HP, just trip with Mags into Magnetic Shockwave, or just turtle adn Rocket Punch the shit out of u. Hell, I played a guy today who was using Mags/Sent/Cammy, and I used my usual low tier asskicker team Omega/Sam/Anak. He knew the basic Hyper Grav-Magnetic Tempest Air combo, but could do shit all, then when Sent came out, he jsut spammed Rocket Punch while spam calling Cammy, and his cammy, he couldnt even use her, let alone know how to use the assist, I fucking Raimekened the shit out of Cammy. He thought that becasue a top tier team lost to a low tier awkward characters he must kik my ass, he kept playing me with the same damn playstyle, I didn’t even bother Icing up the SAmurai or playing keep away with Omega, because I honestly didn’t think he was worth it, if he htought he could pick those 3 and be a God alrady.

Using Hi AND Low tiers takes tremendous time to master, and I foud that a half assed top tier team can sometimes still kik the shit out of my Omega/Sam/Anak team, not becaseu I suck ( htoguh I sitll want to get better), but because these 3 are the most awkward chars, and they dont have the priority that Mags and Sent have, so I must play intelligintly and fast and protect my men better than the opponent. However, I still think that an advanced Omega or Anak can still go one on one wiht an advanced Mags :D.
And I find it is true that most of the time it is Storm and Sent who kick the most ass, becaseu truth be told I honeslty think that MAgs was meant to be a low tier. Look at how much time and effort u must put into him, comparerd to Storm and Sent and Cable, these 3 are the TOp tiers, and Mags is actually a low tier to me, because the low the tier is the HARDER to master them, but the GREATER the character is. I think skillwise Mags is the best char in the game, followed by Anak, than Omega. But Storm and Sent require not so much time as Mags.

Anyways, I think that most people overrate Mags and the top tiers, they are beastly, but hell, they are NOT unbeatable. And every damn character is good in this game (maybe except Roll), but most of the cahrs require more time to learn, and most people honestly to me, they are the laziest fuck becasue all they want to do is pick the guys that will get u the most wins (Stirder, ICeman, Wolvie), and I am glad these fucks lose so horribly, and I am no exception in beating the shit out of them, because they deserve it if they think that my hard work into my team was shit.

storm and sentinel take just as much time to learn as mag.

they too earn there shit, if anyone loses to a shitty sentinel, and shitty storm, then they themselves are shitty as well.

lol i wonder what capcom was thinking when they were making this game…

I love it when people complain about chars because there “cheap” :lovin: Just reminds me of people i played against who complained about capcom, tron, pys, well and just about every other good assist there is. Whats stoping them from snapping in the char or just kill the assist? oh wait thats right half the time these people playing play run away everything or dont knot how to use assists and spam till it dies.

CvS2 got its equal amounts of b1tching though i think. One guy at the aracde I play at thinks his the shit cause he can turle with cammy and honda, and do random short, short, short supers with terry that hit half the time. Sure he beats people who dont know how to play, but when people with knowledge play and beat him its always, “that roll cancel is hella cheap i can’t beat that.” The fact that the other people knew how to do actual combos didn’t mean anything i guess  best part was when he was trying to show off to a scrub by trying to RC, telling the guy to throw fireballs and getting hit repeatedly  , his attempt to RC fireball didn’t even include roll, he was hitting short fierce

I in no way at least tried to imply that Storm and Sent don’t require time to learn. Sure they do, I was just trying to say that MAgs takes alot more patiene adn practice and in turn time, than a good Storm or Sent. A half good Sent player can still kik some ass, and to some extent maybe even a half good Storm, they are both good chars. I was just saying tho that most people pick up top tiers and think they the shit cause they can frying pan u with sent or fly, or do Storm’s basic air combo, then when they pick Mags, they have no clue wtf they doing adn they lose Mags. MInd you tho sometimes a shitty Sentinel is still good, lol, but not a shitty storm, she still need some pratice. I have at times considered Sent cheap, jsut on a count of his over used char and his stamina and damage, but then again, sometimes Sent is the easier one to fight. Any way, I don’t consider any char cheap.

Commando SUCKS ASS on point, as do Tron, Psylock, sometimes Doom if the player doesn’t know how ot properly run away wiht him or attack, and other overusesd assists. The good assist usually (not always mind u ) suck ass, and I can bypass the assist usually when I attack, so I don’t bother snapping in, cuz they still have their Sent. I usually end up killing hte assist with a good DHC of Omega Destroyer, to Raimeiken to Cobra Rush or Pharoah Illusion.

If you mash in GG someone will just land counter hits on you into combos until you die. Not to mention it’s a free gold burst. Besides that, if you mash in GG you’ll probably end up bursting, or RCing your punch into nothing. Saying something like that leads me to believe you’ve never even tried to get into the deeper facets of the game =.

Honestly, I don’t really play MvC2, but I do think there is this stigma alot of people see around it as being “broken” where only a select few characters completely dominate, so no one cares to venture outside of that and put some work into learning other characters/teams who actually do have a shot at winning.

EXACTLY, don’t judge a game until you play it.

there are characters that people don’t think can win on consistant bases agianst the top tiers, people are just afraid to give it a shot, we all have to through that seemingly endless losing streak of development before we can beast with the best of them.

IMO, the reason why new players are discouraged from playing MvC2 is because MvC2 requires a incredibly high level of concentration. You have to know how to use all your three characters, all three assists, as well as your opponent’s characters & assists, which assists beat other assists, how to use the assists to control space, how to set-up traps, etc, all at a very fast pace. There’s so much stuff going on that new players often find themselves overwhelmed with all the stuff that can be done in the game. They find it hard to understand what’s going on, and because of that lack of understanding of the game engine they end up giving up on the game.

Yeah players like these really prove low tiers have some hope. It just takes a little determination and a little motivation. I personally don’t like playing top4 and I avoid playing them most of the time.

All I have to say is Sentinel. When will people realize that he is the key to this game?

woot. quoted for the truth.

sentinel corner unblockable + assist = game. You can just keep doing it over and over. When that character dies, unblockable or guard break the next. You cant do shit about it except take it.

senitnaaaaaaallllll.

totally agree with this. im beginning to learn how to play this game, and the learning curve is set at an extremely high level. honestly, i think the reason mvc2 makes newcomers turn away from the game is how unforgiving it is. against some chars, once they get a hit in it seems as if the match is over from that point on. screw up in the air? eat some ahvbs. get hit by mag/storm/whoever and they combo/reset your ass until you are dead. when someones new at a game they need some breathing room to try and learn how to get into the pace and rhthym of the game… but when your ass is being tossed around at 200 mph with shit flying everywhere… its hard to see yourself learning or having fun with the game.
