I mean. You could softmod and sd card mod your ps2 and somehow acquire the iso to the game because we’re all good boys who don’t pirate our games, right?

Even then a physical copy is only around 100 bucks on ebay.

Yeah its called get the PS2 network adapter for the PHAT PS2, get a SD to IDE adapter, then a Laptop to desktop scale IDE adapter, use Winhiip to put the ISO image into a PS2 formatted Drive (in your case the SD card). And Have FreeMcBoot on a space Memoery card

Why again is the game out of stores now digitally?

Licensing. Capcom has to pay Marvel for the right to either create or distribute games that involve Marvel characters and that’s if Marvel accepts at all. Without the license Capcom isn’t allowed to sell Marvel games, which includes the entire Vs. Series (sans TvC of course).

Yep. Already did this myself. Totally worth it. Also there’s no need to put FreeMcboot on a memory card if you’re going for the SD card mod. As it will be installed to the partition on the SD card or HDD.

I got a limited edition model PS2, its Blue.
So I don’t want to do any case cutting.

Softmod works good enough.

What do you mean? There’s no case cutting required.

Old man rambling:

Mvc2, I have a love hate relationship with this game. Some how I stumbled into the SRK forums, which was defined by MvC2.

I spent my late teens to early 20s playing this game. It was my first true competitive fighting game. I went to B5 and it was like a dream come true, there were people just as obsessed with MvC2 like myself.

I’ve also met people I’m still friends with after 20 years through playing this game.

However, this game was also synonymous with the dark age of fighting games and not so coincidentally in one of the shittiest decade in US history (2000’s was a smoldering piece of shit).

I was a pad player and I got so much flack for using my dreamcast pad since this was an “arcade” game, especially from the fucktards at mirc chat.

Contrary to popular believe, MAS sticks are garbage unless you have the perfect 360 from a non defective batch. The corners from my Happ joystick would wear out in less than 3 months and lets not forget the blue box of death. We can all thank Markman for making TEs the benchmark for quality parts.

Having played COTA, XvSF, MSH, MSHvsSF and MvC1, I was amazed by the cast. I’ve been wanting Sentinel and Colossus to return and they finally did in MvC2.

However, I quickly learned that the game was unbalanced af, especially the characters being represented in tournament play after B5. Doom, Blackheart, Spiral and Cammy became obsolete and everyone and their momma used Cable, Magneto, Storm and Sentinel. Those 4 characters keep getting better while the rest of the cast sinks further and further into irrelevance.

A lot of people in my area moved on to CvS2 and since I couldn’t find anyone that wants to play MvC2 anymore, I went to CvS2.

Fast forward to 2011: (U)MvC3 was released. As a lifelong fan of the vs series, I was super hyped for this game. This game fixed so many problems and so many of the aspects I hate about Mvc2 but also introduced new problems. With the new control scheme and new movement options, I slowly forgot how to play MvC2. UMvC3 is the superior game.

Recently, due to the pandemic, I began playing this game again. Somehow everything I have forgotten about this game just came back to me.

Shit, man, they locked down game sharing six years ago.

It has always been a finite supply. Since game sharing to solve the problem at scale is a mathematical impossibility, the jailbreak solution sidesteps needing more of you. It also sidesteps people randomly begging and hoping and getting disappointed. I’d like to ensure people get hooked up with the game easily: jailbreaking works.

Sure, jailbreaking works, and so does Game Sharing. One account can host 5 different systems. If people don’t have the resources to jailbreak or actually put together a Dreamcast setup, Gameshares are the next best thing. I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “locked down”. Game Sharing is still perfectly functional on PS3.

Or looking for the disc image for the dreamcast game if you have a working dreamcast

Not all DCs can play burned games out the gate.

I only have a slim PS2 so I just freemcboot on a memory card and it works fine. Don’t see a reason to do all that extra shit unless you intend to use an HDD with it.

The beauty of having a slim ps2 is that since it has the network adapter built in you can just net boot all your games from a PC, media server, or even a raspberry pi. Just as good as a sd card/HDD set up once you get it going.

Yeah I neglected that, the later version V2 hardware didn’t use Mil-spec Drives and can’t read Burned discs. [EDIT] I think the USB-GDROM Emu can work with a V2 Dreamcast, I am not sure. Never mind the V2 Dreamcast has a integrated GDROM Controller on the motherboard, and it’s the drive Controller you had to swap out. The SD card based GD Emu and the USB-GDROM Emu and the only work on V0 and V1 variants.

I agree.

I done something similar with my Phat PS2 with Free McBoot, but I got a Network Adapter with a SATA interface and a Laptop SATA drive in there. It’s not that hard to set up, I just had to do like one more extra step.

I dug out my ps3 today and played thru arcade mode with my Venom/Morrigan/Cable team. Man is this game fun, and man am I bad at it,:joy:
