MvC2, The Gawd Game, turns 20 years old today

I’ve always wanted to see MvC2 played with more of the roster. All the vids I think I’ve seen involve Mag/Storm/Sent/Cyk/Cable/Psylocke

I’m glad they have been showcasing low-tier matches as of late and have had Yipes/Jwong on commentary for them.

Where they been doing that??

From team sp00ky’s YouTube channel…

That’s a myth today. Alotta people can use low-tier and mid-tier teams and destroy the high-tier teams in MVC2.

You see this happening now in modern CVS2:

“A lot of people” is exaggerating quite a bit when “a lot of people” can barely play Marvel 2 at all.

Meant a lot of people in general (I can’t even play MVC2 either but MVC2 is the only game to watch that’s more hype than anything else. MVC3/UMVC3 is a distant 2nd).

Examples are:

Yun, a god tier character just below Gill, gets destroyed!!!

Zangief, the worst character to fight with against Gouki wins:

Any team with A-Groove Sakura and Vega (Dictator) on it is supposedly top-tier but it sometimes gets beat:

And so forth.

EDIT: There’s really no difference in using Yun or Gill in 3S. Bother are super broken!!!

…Not one Mahvel video.

I was watching some of that low tier tourney yesterday and that shit was just hype the whole time.

Ha! MVC2 Cyclops Battle Royale:

The custom colors are neat as hell too, even changing the color of the blasts.

I don’t know if y’all ever check it, but there’s a thread of people wanting to game share PSN accounts so they can play MvC2. It’s kind of funny and I feel sorta bad for them for missing out, but they could always play the Dreamcast version for free. Doesn’t one of those DC emulators have netcode?

It does, but the MvC2 on the Dreamcast don’t

Not like they’d find many people (or rather many people who hadn’t been playing the game forever) to play online anyway. If I had space for more consoles and didn’t already have some of the games, I’d get a Dreamcast.

I am currently looking to get my Dreamcast online, looks like most of the solutions are ether get the rare and overprice Broadband adapter for the DC or make my own dial up server.
I am going to op for the making my own Dial up server from a Raspberry Pi.

The project called DreamPi

Most of the project is easy, the only actual soldering is you have to build a line voltage inducer for the phone line (you need a voltage charge on the phone line 9 volts, or 18 if you are in a PAL region).

There’s a variety of people playing online on PSN (free) and XBLA (not free). The current and only meaningful solution for PS3 is to jailbreak your PS3 Slim. Everybody ran out of game shares back in 2014 or so: people asking for game shares now are shit outta luck.

Huh? People still Game share this game all the time. I’ve sold my account to 5 or so people just in the MvC2 discord alone. There’s a literal channel for it, and there’s people in there asking for GS all the time.

If people are serious about getting into the game and being able to play consistently, that’s probably your best bet. There’s a decent rotation of dudes that play on PS3. Otherwise, you’ll have to setup NULLDC (which is kind of a pain in the ass) or use Parsec (which can have different amounts of input lag depending on your connection).

Otherwise, get yourself a Dreamcast, a compatible stick, and a few friends who can and WANT to consistently play. Good luck.

It’s a shame that people are having to go to those lengths just to play the game. I have a PS2 copy but I’m hesitant to part with it even though its a trick getting it to play in my PS2.

I also had the iPhone version but they even nixed it from the purchased section of my account. :frowning:

I mean, I remember when the PS2 version was running $80+ so yeah…outside of that initial run on PS3/360 MvC2 has never been the easiest game to actually get a chance to play. You either had to be on the Dreamcast, had to pony up for an absurdly expensive PS2 copy, had to go to the few arcades with it that likely didn’t have everyone unlocked or as you mentioned now, all the other shit you gotta do.

I saw a PS2 copy on Amazon for $803 yesterday :joy:

Imagine paying almost a thousand dollars for the worst version of MvC2. :joy:
