MvC2, The Gawd Game, turns 20 years old today

Yeah. I picked those magazines up religiously and the month i skipped they had MAHVEL on the cover.

Then next year they should have CVS2 and might as well add 3S this year or next year as well (they should have had 3S at EVO in 2019).

Finally, I have obtained MvC2. Iā€™ll never be able to play it online, and doubtless Iā€™ll never figure out the controls, but letā€™s see what this game can offer besides an amazing soundtrack.

One of the local barcades has (or had anyway, I havenā€™t been there in awhile) am actual MvC2 machine, but the sticks were so tight it made it hard to do moves.

I also found my PS2 copy of the game but damned if my PS2 will play it :weary:

Speaking of which, is there decent emulation of this game in mame?

Redream emulator for Pc or Android, and you can get the Dreamcast version of MVC2. Been a while since iā€™ve messed with Redream but, itā€™s pretty darn easy & convenient.

I have that on PS2 also. Amazing game, itā€™s the one I really wish Capcom had rereleased with netcode. I know why they havenā€™t, but maybe snk will get on board now that theyā€™re trying to rehab themselves.

MvC2 was my inroads to the local FGC.

I will say that while a lot of players in my scene have come and gone, the old Marvel heads will still show up to wherever the cab or Dreamcast is and run shit all night.

Just watched the JWong vs Dark Prince money match set yesterday. MvC2 and 3S take me back in the day when they played for personal bragging rights versus sponsorship by a gaming company.

People coming out of the woodwork now lol. Whatā€™s up!!!

Iā€™m still around this place from time to time. My old user name R.P.Drookie got lost in the new general discussion revamp. Time flies. I canā€™t believe I still see some old user names on here from 2003 and older.

Hi, Radiant. Iā€™m still around for some reason. Time flies.

I remember constantly hearing the name White Knight on SRK in the early 2000. What was that craze all about?.. I donā€™t play MVC2 so I didnā€™t know if it was a player, a new MVC character/assist lol, Iā€™m still confused.

Thereā€™s a Silver Samuraiā€¦

I may be alone in this but, in my opinion, Low-tier gameplay is when this game really shines! Anybody can pick up the High-Tiers, learn their tried & true stuff everyone knows, and hold their own against most. However, low-tiers require you to apply yourself on an entirely different level, and really think outside the box to find what they can be effective at. The whole, ā€œtaking Lemons and making lemonaidā€ basically.

Iā€™ve never been one to pick characters simply because theyā€™re naturally BETTER than others and increased likelyhood of winning. When i pick up a fighting game? I canā€™t help but gravitate towards the characters i actually like. If they happen to be low-tier? That only makes me want to play them even more and embrace the challenge of learning their subtle quirks, to make them viable, and prove my favorite characters can compete.

Since the majority of MVC2ā€™s roster is on the low-end, with only about 17 naturally dominant characters, i was kinda doomed to going down this road lol. As for my low tiers of choice, Charlie and Bison were the low(er) tiers i really stuck with hard and invested time into. As those are my favorite Street fighter characters.
