Tron, Cyclops, Doom and Blackheart really should be banned.
Blackheart doesn’t just need Cyclops to be effective, you can slap him together with a bunch of different assists (COMMANDO) to still shut down whole piles of characters. If it wasn’t for Sentinel and Storm he’d still be a top character.
Tron might be the least necessary of a ban, but she’s by far the most annoying under this kind of format. A lot of low tier characters are low tier for a reason; they can’t protect their assists or start creative offense. Tron ruins them.

I updated the OP with the info from those who expressed interest in participating. In the very least, feel free to use this information to hook up with other low tier players until I get a competition going.

Also I changed ‘South’ to ‘West.’ It was a typo, should have been ‘West’ to begin with. I’d like to point out again the only reason for this is to minimize issues with lag. It’s disappointing that east coast players will never be able to play west coast players without lag issues, but such is life.
So far as Tron’s assist or banning Blackheart or other ‘top mid tier’ characters go, I’m not convinced they should be banned from play. Has Tron ever been on a major tournament winning team? Or Black Heart for that matter? Of course Tron’s projectile and Doom’s anti air have a lot going for them. But the way I look at it is that there will always be a ‘top tier’ no matter how many characters are banned.
Of course, I’m open to hearing more about this, but until Blackheart/Doom/Capcom is proven to be the undisputed overlord of low-tier marvel, I say let the competition decide what’s unfair before Theory Fighter takes over. To sum my position up, I’m not looking to make Amingo, Roll, and Shuma-Gorath competitive characters.

Blackheart won a LOT of Marvel tournaments at one point. BH/Sent/Commando aka Team Watts was probably the most common team for over a year of this game. The only reason Doom and BH aren’t still in play is because both get absolutely ruined by Sentinel.

Tron would be pretty beast in low tier. Her assist can be way too good, and makes low tiers viable. But as a point character, she isn’t really amazing.
It’s really a throw up to ban her or not.

No doubt MST is a legit team, I’m just saying I haven’t heard it winning many tournaments. And while I’m less concerned about a simple combo into Tron assist, I think what is lame is the damage it’ll do, especially to Spiderman, Strider and a lot of other interesting characters.
I feel ya. And I might have spoken too soon about BH not winning any tournaments. Still I worry about banning too many characters or combinations, but I think you make a good argument. I’ve thought about a system that would allow characters like Black Heart but limit the number of good assists you could pair him with (Make BH, Doom, etc ‘expensive characters’ so they’d have to be paired with lower tier characters) but I also don’t want to make too complicated a system.

if you’re fighting vs a cap or tron based team, snap them in. Most people suck with tron anyways.

Tron should just have her projectile assist be banned. I like using her a lot as a character. Doom should not be banned at all because he has so many bad match ups and it is just the high tiers that give him problems mainly. He would be a good challenge for low tier. You have to have some challenge in the low tier. Blackheart and Doom should stay in only because you need a good challenge. You have to leave some characters in that are a threat for a challenge. Have you forgot about Spiral haha she is beast.
Doesn’t change the fact the tron assist is not broke & has no place in low tier play. How is this not obvious. Niggas be swearing they good at there point low tier man & hate to admit that tron did all the damage. Be perpared to see nothing but A/B/tron’s all over the place.

you can have a mind game interaction with tron. Just because she’s there doesn’t dumb down the game. In fact, it makes you play tighter because of the damage potential looming around the screen. Just like top tier play to an extent.
besides, when you create tron style teams with low tier and iron out the options, the best versions of these teams “compete” with tops. Not saying you’ll win all the time but you do have the option to loop it up for a quick win.
top tier marvel has always been about don’t get hit, why can’t it apply to the lows? i rike my roops!

lol… though I’m sure I would just switch one of the characters from one of the two teams I play in for her if she’s banned…actually even Spiral not being banned I found kinda surprising.
Updated the player list. If your name’s not there, it’s either because I skipped it or you didn’t make it clear you’d like to participate. East Coast sure reps the low tier, at least so far.
How does everyone feel about ranbats as opposed to a tournament? For ranbats I figure once people know who they’re competing with they can set up matches over the course of a week and PM me or post here the results. I’d like to hear what people think about running this as a tournament, too, but I feel ranbats will give people more matches and over a few weeks it’ll be a lot easier to tell if certain teams or assists are truly over-powered.
I really feel what shoultzula’s saying. Two big hopes of mine with this league are to a: discover competitive teams that can take on the big boys and b:help new players get into Marvel. I don’t think either goal is likely to be accomplished if we start banning noob-friendly aspects. But it does sound like no one has love for BH, so I’ll consider him for the chopping block unless someone makes a good argument to keep him in.

for arguments sake, there are top low tier teams that don’t use tron and are able to “compete” vs tops. However, its my opinion that there are more tron based teams that “compete.”
BH, doom, cyke are so not low tier, get rid of them quick like.
I agree they are not low tier. I guess I should better say that when I talk about ‘low tier’ Marvel, I’m basically talking about ‘not god-tier’ marvel. So far the only additional character I’m thinking of excluding is BH.

spiral - her trap shuts down MOST low tiers down due to lack of mobility. Pretty strider doom like with the right helpers and you already have s\d banned. If your character doesn’t have a multi directional AD, good luck NJing or SJing around spiral trap which is damn near impossible vs competent spiral.
dhalsim - his infinites but lets not forget about his runaway. He can chill @ the top of the screen forever and just be gay. Teleport, AD, repeat. Of the low tier cast, there’s only a handful of characters who can reach that height so you limit the amount of low tiers being played if sim is in the picture, IMO get rid of him. sim ron is not joking around. Great zoning with pokes + tron combined with his keep away game make him god like and the fact that if he lands a hit, you can be sleeping with the fishes… Hes a top character IMO.
then obviously tron is up for discussion. Personally, I would prefer tron to stay since the teams that rise from this will be able to fight vs the tops to an extent. There are more worthy tron based low tier teams than non tron ones.
