MvC2: Character switch rule

There you have it.

so when you win with storm/mag/psylocke you have to pick mag/storm/psylocke straight up the second game?

i think its only fair that the winner does not get the “advantage”

so there we have it, 1st match both parties can do what ever, 2nd round no “switch glitch” for winner

Like I said, arcade mode for evo anyone?

EDIT: For any tourney really

There you have it people. You can’t use it to have a different starting character, but you can use it and have the same starting character. If match one I switch glitch my originally picked SMP into the traditional Msp, I can pick SMP the 2nd round and start again with MSP. This is old and it has always been this way. The rule is: The winner changes NOTHING. Start order, assist type, game modes, NOTHING. This provides his opponent a chance to adapt and rethink his gameplay. Other wise it’d be like Me picking Row, Someone realizes my magneto’s weakness switches to sent storm commando, so I say “I like my storm vs. his sent, plus I think he caught on to my magnus gimmicks so I’m going to change it up” and then the other person got owned by 2 completely different strategies.
This is still the same rule as the last 4 evo’s Phew I thought wizard was gonna change things up after 6 years of marvel.

You don’t use the glitch to get a different point character, its a side effect when you switch your point. You CAN’T use the switch glitch to get a different starting character, so that rule is pretty worthless.

Only reason I care is because I feel tournament rules should be clear, and currently they aren’t.

You pick A/B/C, don’t switch and win, next game you have to pick A/B/C, may switch to A/C/B, but not B/A/C or C/B/A. From your posts thats what I assume the rule is supposed to be.(If you wanted, could you pick B/A/C and switch to A/B/C in the second game? From your posts it seems like you can’t.)

If you pick B/A/C, and switch to A/B/C and win, is it the exact same?(Have to pick A/B/C, and can swith to A/C/B, but can’t start B/A/C and switch to A/B/C again) Can you flat out pick your characters in any order you want, as long as your point ends up the same after switching?

I’m not 100% sure this is the rule you want, but if I’m right, a good way to reword it would be: Winner must start with the same point character used in the previous game, but may switch the order of their assists.

Why don’t you just say use arcade mode and you can not switch glitch against the computer.

If the winner picks

SMP

and he uses the switch glitch to give mag a quick start and he wins then when its about time to play against the computer he can not switch glitch until after his opponents pick his character.

What will happen is at the tunnel mode

he will have

MSP with no ability to switch point characters and no advantage of a fast start which is no advantage for the winner = GOOD cause the winner shouldn’t have an advantage twice.

Duc

but even with arcade machines most are run on event mode anyway, so it really makes no difference.

the goddam rule should be simple…

winner has to stick with same team, same assists, same order.

switch glitch all you want, as long as the team stays the same team/order/assists.

switching assist order after you win is stupid because it changes the dynamics of the entire team.

I am so confused!!!

Can someone in the staff/administration post an explanation?

i think the problem is none of the staff/administration play marvel. They all play st. Bascially do what you want until someone calls you out on it. If there’s a big problem, pretend you’re mashing and reset the game.

I’m just angry that none of the staff will actually post in the thread. I mean, we’re all pretty concerned, and no one will take the time to post.

What he’s trying to say it this…on the character select screen you can pick A/B/C, then on versus screen you can either hold down assist 1 or assist 2 before the round starts. You cannot switch the order on the select screen itself…

As you were saying:

I’m not staff obviously but what they are saying basically means you CAN switch glitch every match because you are only required to pick the team in the same order; meaning, you pick team A/B/C and switch glitch to B/A/C…next game you HAVE to pick A/B/C (since that’s the order you picked in the 1st game) and you CAN switch glitch to B/A/C if you want.

so is RETARD day done yet, people get the switch rule now riight?:wonder:

What he said.

This seems like a pretty new rule to a lot of people, which is the reason for all the posts.

This is not a rule which has been widely enforced, ever.

No offense Mr.Wizard, but I just realized you have no idea what “switch glitch” is. LOL When using the switch glitch you must change your point character but I’ll just take the time to explain what it is really quickly.

When you pick your team order on the character select screen say in the order of storm magneto psylocke, during the loading screen you can hold assist 1, which will swap the character in the 2nd (Assist one) slot, or assist 2 which will swap the point character with the 3rd (assist two) slot, or hold both assists which will swap assist one and 2. Nothing strange there.

Now after the loading screen comes on you get to move your character but no attacks will come out til the game says fight. So both characters move into each other’s faces and try to time out the attack so that they get the first attack (which of course can be game winning).

“Switch Glitch” means swapping out the point character with either assist one or assist two. Now what this does is allows you to just hold an attack button down after the screen loads before the match says fight. So the frame total movement becomes available an attack comes out automatically. Magneto’s cr. short is exactly one frame. There is no attack in the game that will beat it and only about 4 attacks will trade with it with characters that don’t really exist in the mvc2 world.
Thats what switch glitch is and thats where the concern is.

Switch glitch creates a problem for characters like sent because if magneto starts with standing jab. cr. short switch glitch, no matter what sentinel will get hit and can do nothing but block.

So obviously the switch glitch is really important. If both players play and use the switch glitch and do the same attack they will invariably trade. If anyone that matters besides magneto is picked and they switch glitch, they will lose.

Now heres the way things have been done:
Round 1 A: Player 1 at the character select screen picks SMP (storm/magneto/pyslocke)
Player two picks sent/storm/capcom
Both players switch glitch and the match is finally MSP vs. Santhrax.
Player 1 wins the round.

Now the rules stated that player 1 had to incontrovertibly start his next round as MSP as if he had just won in the arcade.

Round 2 B: Player 1 is still MSP, he can not change his characters unless its on event mode anyways, but if it was, he must begin that round with MSP.
Player 2 picks Cable/storm/commando at the character select screen
During the loading screen Player 1 can’t do anything if its going to change his starting team order from MSP. Player 2 has absolutely no restrictions.
Say player two wins the round.

Round 3 C: Player 1 at the character select screen picks Cable/Magneto/Sent
Player 2 will already be on scrub (Storm/Cable/Commando) unless its on event mode in in which case he MUST start the next round as Storm/Cable/Commando exactly the way it started on round 2.
During the loading screen player 1 has no restrictions as he didn’t win the last round.

Thats the way it has been since marvel tourneys have been around.

Now from what wizard is saying. Is the winner can change his assists but not his point. So he can’t switch glitch, but he can change assists on round 2 after winning.

Which is a NEW rule, but won’t help most people. You typically need your assists to remain in the same order anyways. I’ve never seen an MPS, or a Storm,Commando,Sent. So this rule is gonna be pretty moot anyways.

A) since when is storm/cable/commando team scrub?

B) The glitch has only been out since 03. And ever since then, 99% of tournament threads lists rules as you can change order even if you win.

No wonder Potter hates you.

LOL cuz YOU didn’t know about it pre 2k3 doesn’t mean I didn’t. Plus all of norcal knew about it way back then also. Plus I meant Sent. Potter hates me cuz I’m a scrub, you wanna play me first to 10? Plus most tourneys DON’T let you switch order if you win stupid. Thats why if you watch ALL TOURNEY MATCHES YOU CAN FIND, its never changed. Go to youtube right now and look at ANY complete match loser. Post 1 please.

I’ll play you ft10 all day. I heard you didn’t even play marvel in 03. I’ll play you ft10 all day. We can do you me ft10 for 100. Or you vs me, mike ross and potter ft10 for 100 each. If you can beat all 3 of us, you get 100 bonus. So 400 for 3 of us. Only condition we play on our own sticks, NOT FFA sticks.

You do talk a lot of shit for a magneto mash psy. I really look forward to shitting on you. I’m going to make you my WC motrix.

Oh, below I linked the vid of a winning team switching point. It’s Justin Wong vs Rowtron at Evo 2k5, so suck it.http://zachd.com/mvc2/matches/California/Family%20Fun%20Arcade/2007-03%20FFRan41/3v3.wmv

Plus wtf are you talking about switching. FFA lets people switch TEAMS when they win.
