Wall of text hits for +5 damage!
I typically would have picked something like Cable/Sent/Gief until Doom was gone and then switched to Gief and played that much friendlier matchup, but I needed somebody to catch Doom. Here’s the “retarded matchups” classes IMHO:
- Doom, Storm, Anak, Cyke
- Rogue, Cammy, Dhalsim, Omega Red, Strider (with good assist)
- Megaman, Spiral
- Cable, Iron Guy, (a good) War Machine
- glitched Juggernaut, Sent
- Tron-Y
Any of those aspects on your team generally is a Character Select screen victory unless your opponent picks and plays smart. Most of those were banned from the low tier league for good reason.
I’ll play a guy straight up low tier against Juggernaut? but then he’ll glitch Juggernaut, and from that point on he’s got nukes to my whiffle balls. It’s just not a good plan to pre-forfeit the match at the select screen.
Sounds like we’re on the same page.
I didn’t, really. I had just been bored and stayed bored. I don’t get confused about the person vs their game. The part where I thought you migrated into jerkface land was in the series of PMs you sent me. I got tired of those and blocked you because you were out of line. If you had given me any chance to politely exit at the lobby screen, I would have done so. Instead I patiently waited through a horrible Doom/Cyke/Tron match, and exited as soon as the match was over.
To clarify, you had picked Doom-B there: it’s the same “top tier” problem again where if you don’t have a corresponding top tierish character, it’s just a bum matchup. I try not to randomly pick a major tier level up on anybody. I generally play by this tier guide as well as the “broken matchup” guide I list above, and as soon as it’s relatively viable to switch to a fairer matchup, I do so. It’s laggy online play against people with questionable controllers: I’m trying to have fun as opposed to destroy people and skullfuck their mom.
Arguably the question back would be: what kind of matchup were you looking for? Doom should get through any non-top tier like a knife through butter. It’s an effortless matchup even if you just broke both hands and have to use your tongue to move the joystick. But the question of what kind of matchups you want your Doom to know is a topic for elsewhere, and something to think about.
And … Doom is just a boring character to me. There are about two interesting Doom players in America. Doom’s horizontal game with a good projectile assist is the most interesting since he can be pretty deceptive, but once you take to the air you kind of own low tier just by pressing buttons.
Key word is “manage”. I’m playing to relax. I’m actually interested in losing, since I do other stuff like put up lights, eat pie, and paint. And I’ve got a lot of painting to do before Christmas. =( I just don’t like to be lamed out via the broken matchups class. Nobody is really learning anything, and it’s just not much fun. There’s a lot of classes of play which are way more complex and effective online, and I try to politely avoid those in casual matches.
Again, in fairness, this post on SRK was after ~20 XBLA PMs bemoaning the situation. And he edited the original post here down, as is in part evident by me quoting a part of his post that doesn’t exist anymore. I don’t insult people in a vacuum. That’s not who I am. I got that he was down in the dumps ? he said as much to me in the PMs ? I just thought the lack of respect for me as someone with independent desires and motivations was depressing. Nobody is a robot.
I realized a while ago that my life is more enjoyable when I understand that playing casual matches against people is a privilege, not a responsibility. Correspondingly when I’m not enjoying the matchups for whatever reason, I politely take my leave as opposed to undergoing aggravation needlessly. Having someone bemoan that I don’t want to sit through their learning Doom… :wtf:
But this assumes that Beats is interested in playing whatever matchup we’re talking about here. My primary playing opponents for years played Doom: I’m very familiar with that tedious matchup, but realized that I would rather have fun playing than “play to win”. That?s why I’ll never win Evo, but I will enjoy casual games with friends.
