Wow, i totaly forgot about Gold War. Funny you should say that though, i live on east coast where alot of people play that bastard. Anyways- He is beatable, but I would say its an extreamly bad matchup for rv and wolvie. Or at least I havent found a way to handle it. This doesnt mean they cant win, but its very unlikely they will if the GW is any good. GW vs Wolvie id say maybe 2 to 3 in GW favor. And GW vs RV about 2 to 4 in GW favor if not worse.
Ok, playing GW verses WM you are at a slight advantage. Basically you cant fight him directly. Because you can fly he is at a disadvatage. Plus he already has slow mobility. Easiest way to beat him, is fly, and do fierce punch cancel it out as soon as the animation starts with an air dash. Preferably in the opposite direction of the GW. What happens as it cuts off the animation and vulnerability but you still gain level. You can do this extreamly fast and gain 3 levels in roughly 4 seconds. You can drop smart bomb on him intermittently and if he jumps to you either throw him down, or use air dash to avoid projectiles and move to the other side. Also be able to unfly on reaction or you will eat a nice war destroyer. But if you do that, once you have 3 levels duo and GWM dies.
With strider, do orbs and repeatedly jump back and forth. When you hit him is pauses him momentarily regardless of what he is doing. By the time he can counter you, you have already jumped over him. Keep hitting him while you do this so you build level as well. Then when orbs run out if he jumps wave dash under him before the bombs come to cross him up. Keep moving untill he is grounded again then hit him with a well placed assist and start your orbs again. If you even get cornered teleport to the opposite side of the screen. Dont risk trying to throw him. GW has magic throws i swear to god… Just make sure you use an assist to keep him on the ground before you use orbs because a good GW will try to stay in the air.
I think a keep away wolvie might stand a chance against a scrubby GW but i cant realistically see a good GW loosing to Wolvie. The only thing wolverine has that can do significant damage is his barrage. He cant use anything else cause it will leave him open hit or miss.And once you get cornered you die. Unless the GW messes up and gets thrown. But that isnt likely.
Eh… how does RV stand a chance? none of his supers do enough damage to be worth using the level. You get hit 3 times and you are dead. Thats all i have to say on that. There is no reason I should need to explain why rv looses here.
I know if you jump the screen scrolls and allows WM more room to fly. That’s why I said jump, shoot something, and then land. That way he falls on the donut when the screen scrolls back down. WM is somewhat like Sentinel in MvC2. He can fly around like a nut for free until he gets in the corner, then he’s in trouble. If Wolverine lands a hit on WM while he’s flying, WM gets knocked down and Wolvie gets to play with him for awhile. RV’s jump fierce more than matches WM on speed if not priority. Generally not worth it to fly once you reach the corner.
I know WM can fly cancel c.fierce, but how do you get the missile on the screen before they hit you at the start of the match? :bluu:
Yeah, everyone’s gonna jump on Wolverine. The onus is on Wolverine to keep them on the ground. He doesn’t lack good air moves to do this with. His air jab is still good, and as an air-to-air hit it’s hard to punish blocked drill claw.
You forgot to mention Red Venom’s crouch fierce as a factor in the fight against Wolverine. That move occupies too much space, and hurts to a point where you can trade with jabs and still win. RV’s jump roundhouse can only be baited by making him think you’re going to jump and not doing so, because RV’s air-to-ground is crap, but RV’s jump is fast enough so that he should only be jumping on reaction to any jump you do. And RV has a counter to mashing out of fierce throw, which is throw them again; alternately, switch to kick throw in the corner, from where he can kill you. I think your RV players are too focused on the infinite and not on actually playing him. He’s broken as fuck.
Oh, who uses low roundhouse in MvC1? Jab roll, GGPO.
Prowness, if you’re talking 2 on 1 (GWM/x vs RV/whomever,) then GWM wins, no doubt. soon as he gets the level 2, he had best be off the screen or he’s going to take massive chip damage. 1 on 1 however, is much different. GWM’s moves are all slow, and he has no reliable method of chipping you to death (1 on 1.) So, he has to attack, (with kneedives, smartbombs, stand forward, whatever.) All those moves have horrible recovery, except for stand fwd (which you can walk under on reaction and punish, FYI.)
RV can seriously win this match by doing low strong whenever GWM tries to do anything and can block afterward. Or he can do low strong chain low fierce if you block one of his laggy moves.
WM would be a potential #1 IMO if he didn’t have a 9-1 fight vs RV. (close fierce beats ALL his moves up close, and you can close fierce through kneedive -> jump fierce.) You can win this match by walking forward and pressing on fierce as soon as you see him jump, it’s that bad. Strider is still king because he has everything - he can fight 1 on 1, he can chip, he has damaging combos, and he can duo.
WoW alot of talk about gwm do any of you play online mvsc with kaillera or if you guys do then some of you might know me as -= <-DarkCloud-> -X- =- . I played some good gwm b4 and i tell you this i can handle him pretty well with my team. Red Venom is good also u can do his ifnite so easily just HK grab in the corner and start his infinite. And i found a funny double infinite with gwm just pick 2 gwm’s crouch right next to each other then do his HP while crouching takes a lil time but looks kool once you do it.
I said crouching fierce cancel out to fly OR standing fierce. It has good range and te hit frame is long enough that wolvie cant dash in on you. If wolvie is right up on you when match starts then safest thing to do is push block his ground chain and standing fierce>fly out of it. Simple as that. Wolvie has tools to beat people in the air but he most certainly does NOT have anything to trade with WM. His only ace is IF he cant keep WM on the ground which isnt ganna happen much. In my expirience you only get one free jump against my war machine; the begining of the match. From then on if you jump I will guard break or infinate you. I play wolvie too, and it just not worth it. Only consistant defense for wolvie is ice man assist or something similar, but that still isng guaranteed cause they can just unfly and throw you.
And on the flying away from orbs thing- why would war machine be cornered? If he is flying you cant put pressure on him at all unless he fucks up and you are still hard pressed to exploit mistakes cause if he is knee bombing and smart bombing you from the air consistantly strider wont build level. So the only thing you can punish him with is an air combo or ground chain. Also, lets say WM does fly into a corner and you do orbs, you jump and shoot at him, he dashes up forward and clears everything. Its not as technical as you try to make it sound. As long as they dont panic when you jump at them they are safe. In a worst case they have to unfly to block and then they still arent without the ability to wait for the hole in your rushdown and fly around again. The best way to beat warmachine with strider is to start orbs at the very begining of the match and literaly bombard him with everything you have like there is no tommorow cause you cant aford to let him get off the ground. But its never guaranteed. Although a compotent strider who knows how to deal with WM is a pain in the ass, most of the match is decided in the first 5 seconds.
RV wouldnt take it either way in my opinion. 1 red venom has no outstanding move that can punish anything GWM does at all. He has the same problem almost eveyone else has, while you can say in theory that you can punish lag time, it doesnt work like that. You can only poke him and pray you recover fast enough that you dont get hit across the screen. What It turns into is a match where you trade hits with him with your normals and when rv trades hits with ANYTHING, he loses. If you believe that GWM has no reliable way to chip by himself then you seriously need to stop playing scrubs. GW is one of the most anoying characters to deal with, because even if you hit him while he is in the air he will throw you out of your recovery time on something as simple as a damn jab. The only doesnt apply when you cross him up and if venom starts dashing under your smart bombs you just knee bomb>assist he take chip and you have a free throw. Its gay but its obvious who this match up goes to. RV has nothing that can hurt him. If he turtles like you are describing and tried to do a short chain on the lag time of every move he MIGHT get GWM to 70% life before you are cornered. And FYI when you are cornered against GW you are dead. Unless you are strider and have a teleport.
Like i said, Wolvie, and even RV ‘can’ win the match. Its just very unlikely if the GW you are playing has a clue.
And o yea if you guys where curious who i use its Venom and Hulk and i hope you ppl dont underestimate them as do some do if u think its a easy win that team just aim me and i can show you some insane shit with these 2.
I agree, while hulk doesnt seem to be underestimated as much, on the east coast venom is seriously underplayed. He is alot better than you think and you can beat alot of people solely off the “WTF a good venom” factor. lol
The unfortunate thing is, that once you figure out how to play against venom you can beat him with minimal effort if you are playing with a high tier char.
i know arcade and kaillera are different but still but still both fun. I just hate how some ppl act on kaillera but if it where an arcade they wouldnt act like they do but o well and btw whos Sabin?
Prowess the best thing to do especially on dashers is to do standing HP to keep them mid range then do web throw very effective and if u mash u can do 5 slams it works trust me.

LOL. Noone is going to be cornered by GWM in the corner, epecially not RV. All I have to do is superjump and airdash, wait for you to jump/superjump, whee I’m out of the corner.
And also, I’d like to hear how GWM can chip anyone safely (1 on 1). His only relatively “safe” moves are jump back fierce, stand fwd, smart bomb.
You should seriously try RV’s low strong. It has as little frames as Wolvie’s downcanceled low strong (i.e., it’s pretty safe.) Seriously, if WM does kneedive -> jump fierce, or tries to normal jump fierce or forward, I can low strong him and block. It’s that fast. In a 1 on 1 match, I can hit and run against GWM all day and it’s hard for him to do anything cause you’re so slow.
The reason why RV can do this as opposed to Wolvie is cause of 1) faster walking speed, and 2) WAY longer normals, with very little recovery.

Very dead, I was speakin in past tense. I still dont see how RV can beat GWM though. If you get in the habit of trying to dash under him all he has to do is jump>d.roundhouse>smart bombs. You can easily bait RV to dashing under a super jump, then you knee dive behind him, and assist. The assist crosses up, even if he blocks it you have a free throw.
RV’s walk speed is fuckin st00pidly fast. And it means you cant shoot stuff at him cause he will walk under it unless its smart bombs. Sigh, I didnt think about it before, venom can walk right under all WM’s specials that usually make up for the chipping, so I retract my statement from before. He is probably the only one who can do that with minimal effort. But if you ground him anywhere near the corner you still get War Destroyer for free. But I still dont see how poking and blocking is effective, if you trade with a slow move and block you only get one free be, then GWM just throws you. And how does venom get away from low jumping strong? Even if what you are saying is to use low fierce to push him out the strong has enough range to still cause block stun, so you will trade off and win maybe 4 times and then you are in the corner. And no, you cant dash under low jumping strong, or low jumping forward for that matter. You get put in block stun and then the magic throw- if you roll, he uses assist to put you in block stun as you stand and does war destroyer. If you dont roll you get otg’ed. Oh yeah, and if you tech throw? standing roundhouse war destroyer. The thing is, GWM is such a simple character that it allows for you to plan spicifically for stupid shit like this. Its a lose lose situation fo RV. I admit, its a closer match than i thought, taking into consideration what you have said, but GWM still beats him the way I see it.
I refer to his throw as magic, cause he has the inane ability to throw people out of anything fuckin thing.
I fear ARTURO in MVC1 with a full strider with full power bar and 5 psylocke assists. CAN YOU SAY LOCKED THE FUCK DOWN. LOL I played you at NEC3 in winners 3 round and first match went handily your way with you gaurd breaking and infiniting my second character. And then the second match I raped your RV with my Wolvie and had a full wolvie and strider. And then your strider came in and cleaned up. You locked me down for the entire rest of the match. And that my friends is why Strider is number one. Seriously what option do you have when strider has ourobous but run. And while he’s chipping me with psylocke and gaining like 1 and 1/2 meters with the ourobous as soon as ourbous is done. Welp call psylocke again activate orubous. Theres nothing you really can do. MVC1 is fun. Alot of people over look the previous Vs games and I feel they’ve missed out on so much. MSHvsSF was almost comparable. It was the shit. Great games to Arturo though. I got you in casual though. Nice job on the win on probably the last MVC1 tourney ever.

Every swing that RV throws leaves him vulnerable to (a very disadvantageous) trade…
