Nero has a more hype arm is still being featured in new videos before and after MvC3 dropped off. Forgot Combofiend used him.
EDIT: Still like the list since I’m only in it for the Capcom side…and no I won’t be playing this at tourneys, but it’s the internet so I’m voicing my opinion.
That’s not really comparable. The Street Fighter characters are entirely new, while the MvC characters are picked from existing comics/games that people love.
This isn’t the case, it’s just the case from your perspective, the average casual is amped. They may be disappointed it’s not injustice polished but by then capcom has the money anyways.
It’s is a fighting games, comments about mobas and RPGs aside. Capcom knows how much they need to sell to be successful, and it likely is around 2 million , which they clear by default by having iron man fighting hulk as alone.
Comments about content when you don’t know the full extent is laughable, but that’s because I don’t really like dealing with assumptions. However I don’t believe it will be a complete package like injustice. I do however believe it will be more fun and better to play. Also remember if it don’t sell as much as injustice , don’t mean it’s not a huge success for capcom.
You don’t like dealing with assumptions when all of your arguments are based on nothing except assumptions?
What are you basing that statement about the “average casual” on? Because it’s a known fact that the “average casual” doesn’t give a shit about competitive fighting games. They don’t clear 2 million by default, that’s just an assumption you made. The same assumption was made with SF5, and here we are almost two years on from its release and it’s failed to sell 2 million. Branding only takes you so far. Having 4 new characters in a base roster of 30 isn’t going to win you many favors with the casual crowd who sees these as “all the same game anyways”.
I’ve spoken to several people who couldn’t give a shit about fighting games, intact I had a conversation yesterday who laughed at the fact that when playing guilty gear I could only go up down and left and right. And they are still really excited for the game.
The thing is this isn’t sf5 it’s MARVEL Vs CAPCOM SF is popular but marvel is beyond that by far. Sf5 failed because they marketed it possibly the worst I’ve ever seen , it had pathetic single player content at launch the store didn’t work. Story mode came after a month etc etc but above all it was marketed horrifically a game made by blizzard came out with zero single play content, even more bare bones and won game of the year, it was a shooter but being honest and a good marketing team do fucking wonders.
Expecting mvci to bomb because sf5 did , the roster my be uninspired but they can never win there. Ever , however let’s not act like some people are not happy either ,
Honestly, I don’t think it’s exactly fair to compare the Marvel Infinite roster to a roster like Marvel 2 and Ultimate/Vanilla Marvel 3 based on size alone for a variety of reasons.
[] Marvel 2 and 3 are 3v3 fighting games, so having base roster sizes that complement 3v3 and 2v2 make sense (2 had 56, 3 had 36, Ultimate had 48 and Infinite has 28).
[] In comparison to other 2v2 Vs. series rosters, Infinite has the largest of all of them (TvC had 22, Marvel 1 had 15, 21 including secret characters).
I think the biggest problem I have with the general reaction to Infinite’s roster is that some people have been spoiled by large rosters post-Marvel 2. Marvel Infinite’s roster size isn’t bad by any means, especially since XvsF, MshvSF and MvC1 (all 2v2 games) had a small amount of characters.
Although, the characters within Infinite’s roster itself is another can of worms altogether.
It isn’t the size. The problem is the amount of those characters that are reused assets. If they are reusing assets, why not bring back more then?
“We can reuse assets from 3 and do a big launch roster and leave new fan favorites as dlc”
“Or we can make more new character at launch roster, but the roster won’t be as big”
“Why not both?”
"Great idea!“ They decide the roster
"That’s not what I meant…”
This is the exact same thing that happens with just about the launch of any game these days, especially crossover games. We’ve been hearing this same shit ever since before 2009.
Most probably would have less of an issue if the game had, a) character models built from scratch and weren’t reusing assets from the previous game, or b) a much larger roster in general since they’re opting to bring back a lot of the cast from MVC3.
The only new IP being repped is Monster Hunter. Capcom had great representation in MVC3 from a variety of franchises. This effort right here is shitty.
For the starting roster I expected around 30 while I hoped for 36 so 28+6 isn’t exactly shocking to me.
Arthur, Firebrand, Nemesis and Ant-Man I’d rather were other characters but I can’t say that I’m shocked.
The biggest thing that stands out to me is the severe lack of booty but if we’re going by what’s in the MCU (Which is clearly the restriction here) then the only real viable character I see is Scarlet Witch or perhaps Black Widow.
The roster overall is unimaginative and I’d go as far as to say lazy. I didn’t really expect much else, I just hope they put some actual effort into the returning characters and not just cut//paste because then I might have to agree with Psych0j0sh on something and I don’t want that timeline to be real. (Just in case it needs to be said - this was a joke)
I’ve seen complaining about reused assets but didn’t Injustice 2 just come out with 28 characters where all the returning cast had a large amount of reused assets? Superman has his F23, F23 xx Ice Breath, Wall Bounce, jump in punch, buttons into ender combo that is literally the same as Injustice 1, same with Green Lantern/Batman/Aquaman etc.
I’m not trying to make a comparison between the 2 games, just the idea that Injustice can reuse entire characters or 90% of a character but MvCi can’t because it’s lazy confuses me.
Ryu had been using the hadouken animation since TVC and it wasn’t the issue here, There were no complaints about those. Lot’s of misleading comparison which isn’t a relevant justification to belittle an issue. The other game had decent possible combination in customization in visuals aesthetics that exclude alts.
