If they made it 3v3 again they wouldn’t have had any excuse to have a tiny roster. And they wouldn’t have been able to use too many characters from the previous roster either, since they’d get accused of just rehashing the same game.
They’re clever bastards when it comes to screwing their fans.
Yes, clearly the exact same model, and clearly all the extra detail on the second image does not exist. #sarcasm
And don’t be an idiot and complain that they based the new model on the old one. All software development nowadays is straight up iterative. If something’s a good base to start your work on, then it’s best to use it. This isn’t like SFIV to V where they clearly needed to dump the former’s disjointed models.
More importantly, are we forgetting that these characters will still have to transition onto the MvC2 control scheme? Tony and Hulk have it easy since they partly had some of their old normals, but the others will need some extra love. Even then, just moving from one control scheme to another can greatly affect how characters play - Tony played way differently from MvC2 to MvC3 thanks in part to the control scheme (no more j.lp,j.mp,j.lk,j.hp rinse repeat).
They should’ve bring back Dormammu, Iron Fist, Ghost Rider and Black Widow playing like Jill, since they’re MCU, and Ammy, Haggar, Joe and PW. 36 base roster, less work because of reused assets and more variety with the Capcom side.
If we assume the leak is true (and I at least find if plausible): To some extent, the issue isn’t the quantity. It’s the lack of variety. Arthur AND Firebrand? That gives undue weight to Ghosts & Goblins. Sure, it was a classic game and part of Capcom’s overall mythos… but it doesn’t need 2 of 14 slots. 1 is appropriate. Morrigan AND Jedah? That one’s more defensible, but I would have rather just had Jedah alone; Morrigan has enough overlap with Ryu that I’m not fond of the decision. Same thing with Nemesis AND Chris. We don’t need both; I’m inclined to say they should just keep Nemesis. Yes, I’m serious; he offers something unusual compared to Chris. Still, more realistically I would have expected them to ditch him and keep Chris.
That’s three slots right there freed up to pick more variety. Get a Breath of Fire rep in there, maybe try out a Final Fight character or Captain Commando, and add Frank West. Suddenly the Capcom roster goes from ‘uninspired’ to ‘still predictable, but gives nods to three more series.’ It’s more exciting that way.
The Marvel side of it… well, that’s clearly the MCU. I know full well that Marvel is treating the game as an advertising platform for their movies, and there wasn’t going to be much changing that. Within that restriction, this list is about as good as it’s going to get. There might be room to argue for or against a few choices, but on the whole I understand why it would work this way.
As for Unsaxon’s remarks: Well, the leak hasn’t been proven true yet. That’s apt. My preorder stands for now. If this proves to be the real roster though, and I find that plausible… well… I’ll be reconsidering whether I want my $90 back or not. There’s a lot I could do with that money, esp. since I spent this cash in the first place because I was really angry at the time. “Doing irrational things while being well aware they’re stupid, but so upset I don’t care” level angry.
Capcpom really could be this stupid. It’s something that is reasonably ‘in character’ for them, and that’s cause for caution.
You’re not understanding the point. The fact that they had bases already available means they had more than enough opportunity to cram in more than 28 fucking characters. That’s literally my point. You use Iron Man as an example when we have a more extreme example in Chris. He looks exactly the same (right now he looks worse) and literally has one new animation (cr.HK) as of now. You really can’t make any excuses for Capcom here. These roster choices are awful and not inspired whatsoever. Call shit for what it is.
And yeah, making sure that the characters transition to a new layout is apart of Capcom’s job. This isn’t a charity. This stuff is apart of the development. From what I read on Gaf, it’s implied that this game has been in development for close to 2 yrs. That’s more than enough time to fine-tune things and get a clear understanding of how some characters will be worked into the system.
Fucking Nova is the only non-MCU character on this roster. Nova!! It’s terrible.
I’m taking a wait and see approach, but as of now, this shit is a joke. Look around online. No one is happy with this effort. You have known Marvel players who think this roster looks bad.
i was actually expecting Commando, Jin, and Edward Falcon in the Capcom side. Instead i get a shit recycle of UMVC3 characters. I’m sorry but i just lost interest in buying this game on it’s launch.
the whole 3v3+assist take away was something i adjusted to (regardless of hating it inside) but now this shit launch roster? The only thing i like in there is Strider, X and Jedah.
You say this like you know for sure this is the roster that is coming on the 19th of Sep. Which nobody really does know. Taking leaks or rumors as for certain.
Ryce has been accurate more than enough times for this to have merit.
Saikyo, an entirely different leaker, has the same exact information. He was even more precise on what to expect.
So either the information is legit or both of them somehow are getting wrong information entirely for whatever reason. The fact that Capcom tends to make mind-boggling decisions certainly doesn’t fill me with confidence on this being inaccurate.
Like I said, I’m waiting to see what unfolds. I’d actually prefer to be wrong because I don’t want to see another SFV debacle and I want this game to succeed. As of now, though, this roster is ass.
Even when the evidence mounts up, things change or go a different way. This isn’t too much different when people were 99 percent confident that Sentinel and Magneto weren’t going to hit Marvel 3 at launch or at all and flipped their shit. Marvel makes people flip their shit. Everytime.
This really doesn’t add up, but admittedly, that’s just me probably being in-denial.
That’s why I said “as of now”. I’m keeping an open-mind to things. Ryce’s source giving him the go ahead to throw out everything seems pretty weird to me. Maybe this is just the list for the E3/CEO build.
I understand not wanting SFV Part 2, but if you just take every news as “SFV Part 2 is coming” then you’ll just have no hair by the time the game launches.
Calm actually down. Especially when this is a 2v2 Marvel game where the rosters have traditionally started out smaller. The average 2v2 game has only launched with 15 to 20 characters at most. Even TvC didn’t launch with a high number.
MVCI is technically the largest launch roster for a 2v2 game and the roster is only maybe 8 characters off from the size of Vanilla Marvel 3 which was 3v3. I remember people similarly cried at only 36/38 characters MVC3 launch.
And then we get another version of the game less than a year later with more characters. That shit won’t fly in 2017
Neither adding 10 or 12 new characters via DLC just to make it a decent roster
After SFxT and SFV you’d think Capcom would learn to release a finished and complete product Day One.
I’m sorry, but having only 28 characters, most of them terrible choices probably imposed by Marvel, and only 4 female characters is a terrible launch roster and can’t be classified as a complete and finished product
Also, MVC1 was a long time ago, so using that game as an excuse for the number of characters in a 2v2 game is not a good idea. FGs in the 90s had a smaller roster than FGs now, period.
Injustice 2 has 28 characters, Tekken 7 has 34 characters and KOF XIV launched with 50 characters
Hell, Vanilla SFIV had 25 characters on consoles in 2009
