Ill only like tvc style gameplay if they get rid of everyone having a generic air dash forward and make the assists stronger. Those air dashes on everyone makes everyone’s approach so samey and boring.
The advancing guard game in tvc seems a lot better though. Pushblock was too brain dead in 3.
Advancing Guard seemed to reduce much more chip in TVC than it did in MVC3 as well. If you kept doing it while blocking a Shinkuu Hadouken, the chip damage really wasn’t anything special. In MVC3, that shit still did a ton of chip whether you used AG or not. Probably because the damage was much larger in general.
And yeah, universal air-dashes aren’t something I’d want to see.
TvC was a great game. Granted, the game had its flaws that I could go on and on about, but the pacing and flow of the game was great. If MvC4 is anything like it, MvC4 will be the second game I’ve ever preordered. I fucking loved that game. Joe the Condor? Karas? Yes please.
Yeah its just abused too much in that game and I feel part of what made Marvel unique was you had to make do with what your options were or got some crazier options that would make sense for someone without a generic air dash.
I couldn’t see characters like Modok and X23 being the same with a generic ADF and ADB. Their air movement options were very unique to them and made them who they were.
I don’t think air dashes should be truly universal, but I think some characters need them to be viable. Ryu’s lack of mobility was a major crutch in UMvC3 that no one apart from RayRay ever got past. Akuma wound up being several tiers better despite having worse normals because he could actually wave dash, and had a better assist in Tatsu to boot. When Ryu’s mobility options are comparable to Hulk’s (actually worse b/c Gamma Charge was good with assists), you have a problem.
So, more air dashes than MvC3 but not universal would be best. Agree on the assist part with one caveat; make REVERSAL assists better, MvC3 did lockdown right.
I think Ryu was fine without air dash he just needed more cheap stuff. His toolset overall was too fair mainly because they tried too hard to make him feel like Alpha 2 Ryu in Marvel. Denjin was way too situational and not worth the meter burn.
Akuma was generally cheaper despite having stubbier buttons and a better assist
Assists need to be strong for sure. None of these weak body assists that aren’t worth using
TvC was a great game because there were fun wacky combos, but it wasn’t touch of death level. The Megacrash mechanic initially I felt was a comeback mechanic, but it ultimately rewarded players that were able to manage meter and open up their opponents more.
I thought the assists in TvC were under powered (although I was quite fond of Roll’s water bucket) and there could have been more variance in the air dashes.
It doesn’t need to be a universal air dash but I do want all characters to have some sort of air movement option. It would cool if Hulk could gamma charge in the air, Taskmaster having Spider-Man’s swing, Hagger gliding using lariat or some shit like that.
The more I think about it, porting Marvel 3 to PS4 with some spruced up graphics, patches and better online play would really generate massive hype in the community and would be a great thing to hold players over until Marvel 4.
Not gonna lie, seeing Chris with an air-dash in the early MVC3 build was hype. I was pretty salty that they gave She-Hulk an air-dash in UMVC3 early on and removed it a few builds later. After losing her slide, she really needed it.
I agree with Hawk about everyone having *some *specific movement in order to keep up. Some characters were completely fucked in that regard in Marvel. You almost felt like they weren’t even in the same game at times.
I didnt mean the universal air dashes. i meant more a long the lines of a streamlined, not as assist spammy neutral, no more bullshit like air combo to knockdown to super being a combo
