MVC Infinite Lounge: DLC Characters and Costumes launch Dec 5th

2 character games are a bit easier to work around because it’s simpler to make a team you like or is competitive. If you want a competitive team you can always just pick one character you like and make sure the other character is a good/top tier one.

Like how Marn used Zero/Alex in TvC. Alex was just there to just be Alex and wasn’t that necessary for the team, but hey you got Zero doing the work so you winning. Plus, you still get to play Alex because…he’s Alex and never actually good at doing anything other than being Alex in whatever game he’s in.

3 character teams with assist generally forces you to find at least 2 characters you like or pick one character you like and then learn 2 other characters that you may not like to fit the team or make it strong. Lot less card game style management with a 2 character team. It gets really convoluted as one character may help the other character, but screws up synergy for the other 3rd character.

The only thing that’ll muddy things up is the gems (that we know so far), but that should just open up ways to play the 2 character teams a bit more.

Fun observation from GAF. MvC:Infinite is technically the 8th Marvel game counting from COTA. Now what do you get when you turn the number 8 on its side? The “∞” symbol for Infinity.

I always felt that Zero/Alex wasn’t truly optimal though. Fully optimized teams in TvC ended up being stuff like Yat-1/Batsu where you had the former on point playing neutral to get in, then the latter came in for big damage via VAR once Yat-1 did get in (because lol Super BBQ unblockables).

At the end of the day, there are still going to be stuff that’s much more optimized.

That said, the free-form tag system makes me hope that at least we wont get something like MvC1 where, outside of Duo’s, the characters didn’t really help one another (just because you had Wolverine on your team didn’t necessarily mean you could pick whoever else second, because they could still suck and Logan could do nothing about it).

Idk, I’m imagining more of a KOF sort of scenario where certain characters go better in certain slots, but synergy isn’t really a thing.

Synergy is going to be a thing because of the free-form in combo tag system.

Idk about that. Me and the 5 people I know who have a switch haven’t had any problems and praise the system. Hell check the forums here, people who actually have the system are reporting no such issues.

Stop taking the loud minority as the majority. It’s fine to wait on new tech hardware, actually smart but blanket uninformed statements don’t help anyone.

I imagine that team building won’t be as much a “Use what works or you lose at the css” type of deal this time around.

Still going to happen anyway, that’s just the nature of fighting games, especially if it gets a substantial roster.

To the extent that the previous games had? I don’t think so. I’ll admit that I’m not confident in capcom’s “balancing” but the lack of assists seems to give you more freedom to just go with what you feel is comfortable.

The lack of assists means that there’s no way to cover a characters weaknesses. This was actually an issue with the older games like XvSF and even MvC1 where a bad character was bad, no matter who they were partnered with.

I don’t believe an utmost balance is attainable but having everyone their own advantage is the best way Capcom could go with any fighting game.

Capcom has proven with UMVC3 that they can do a better character diversity in versus series than MVC2 and TVC.

That’s my hope for the infinity gem system. Playing Strider/Morrigan with more damage, or Hulk/Haggar with more speed or movement.
They said the stone will be your third character, but we only saw it working with some sort of activation instead of some kind of passive buff. If what they said about the stones is true, the stones give either some passive buff or you can activate it anytime but just can’t tag out during the active period, because in the trailer it just looked like a balanced x-factor.
They did say in a interview that it is more like the groove system, but knowing there is an activation, what would change? Double jump becomes air dash?

On the flip side, this means that they don’t have to balance characters with assists in mind. They can just focus on giving characters tools to work with.

One thing I don’t like about UMvC3 is how some characters need assists to continue a combo after a knockdown while others can do it by themselves many times. Gives the impression that the former are incomplete characters. At least this time this won’t happen, unless only some characters can OTG and tagging into them is the only way to continue the combo (and I personally don’t want this).

The only way to really balance the game is to set it so you’re always on random select. kappa

UMvC3 may have better character diversity, but it has shit playstyle diversity compared to MvC2. The former is mostly just RTSD teams with the occasional zoning team and, for all intents and purposes, 1 trapping team. MvC2 had a better balance of rushdown, zoning, TOD, and trapping teams, even witha smaller pool of viable characters.

That said is Capcom could do better character diversity in future games whether versus or other FG that has good rushdown and zoning with more widder cast, I don’t known if they want to go with alot of TOD and trapping teams with their sudden adjustment on 2v2 and no assist. I trust Capcom if it is for the better of future games to have more better character diversity.

I’d rather have more playstyle diversity over character diversity.

I think playstyle diversity both involves character diversity and game mechanics as an important factor thats where MVCI is heading if done right.

Yeah in Marvel you should ask for character and play style diversity more than balance. When you have a game that’s as free form and meant to break rules like Marvel, you’re not going to get this balance. If you’re going to sit around asking for balance for the entirety of Marvel Infinite you’re going to have a bad time and should just spend your anger on something else.

Why not both? That’s what the gem system is supposed to do. Make people not have to switch characters too much to follow how the game evolves.
