yipes did say that there was one in the works in the marvel live podcast
i really hope they release like just the patch notes just so we can theorise on it
Fuck nerfing Morrigan. Astral Vision gave us the return of MvC2 style trapping. If not for that, weâd be stuck with RTSD with the occasional zoning team. MorriDoom was the closest we got to MvC2âs variety of playstyles.
I only wanted Astral Vision to not allow for meter gain. The actual mechanics of MorriDoom was fine. Just a little too cost effective. Zeroâs meter gain should have been nerfed as well. For the S tier characters, cost efficiency was always their biggest advantage over other top tiers.
Whatâs the general consensus of the tier list right now? Have characters like Chun & Phoenix Wright moved up a bit after some new players wrecking shit with them?
i was watching some old school marvel games and i didnât know cota had some stage breaks
think that might return in infinite, could make for some cool combo options too
I donât think thatâs necessarily true. With Street Fighter it was different since SF5 is similar in gameplay to USF4. However, Infinite and UMVC3 are completely different games. Infinite is 2v2 with no assists and a gem system, whereas UMVC3 is 3v3 with assists, X-Factor and a different tag system. The only thing they might have in common is some characters and movesets.
You need to look at it less in terms of individual characters, and more in terms of teams, since those are the actual characters in the game. With this in mind, RyanLV seems to have found an effective team with Chun with his Chun/Morg/Phoenix team, combining Chun runaway with Morriganâs meter building assist to provide meter for both Astral Vision and Dark Phoenix (helps that Morrigan now has a number of viable ways to set up Soul Drain loops as well). Of course, there are still better Morrigan and Phoenix teams (including FChampâs Doom/Morrigan/Phoenix that he busts out for certain match ups).
Yeah, so? These days devs only kind of care about what the playerbase wants; the much bigger concern is appealing to new players/casuals/whatever the fuck. Did the player base want the game to go to 2v2? Did they want assists to be removed? I kindly doubt it. Iâd expect balance to be a big concern and some patches to appear whimsical (exhibit A: SF5), any sort of execution requirements to be gone, and who knows, maybe theyâll go the whole nine and make all DPs cost 50 meter (DPs are obviously wayyy too strong a tool). These are the sort of things that ostensibly bring in new players. Plus, literally 90% of JP devs lately are into this hand-holding shit and theyâll also be under added pressure from the Marvel folks to âmake the game accessibleâ, and Iâd say balance and âaccessibilityâ go hand-in-hand; no new player is going to want to fight an 8-2 MU.
The big thing that held back the lower tiers in MvC3 was air mobility. Ghost Rider and Iron Fist were practically useless at super jump height, and Hsien-Ko had one of the worst airdashes in the game. While certain top tiers didnât really have great air mobility (coughVergilcough), they were at least able to confirm combos with a bullshit move like Helm Breaker.
Holy fuck are the taking their sweet ass time with announcing anything at all. Itâs now been 3 months and a half. Pretty bored of character wishlists and speculation. I could use some news.
I dont want to fight 8-2 match ups either. I hope they ruin this game by making it balanced and fair if for no other reason than to give me a laugh at the people whoâd be upset by it.
Letâs not kid ourselves. Despite their best efforts, the game will still be team based and will involve synergy/team composition. The difference is instead of batter/assist/anchor, youâll have battery/anchor (or extension). Weâll still have teams/characters who do better than others simply based on this.
True. Even 2v2 w/o assists poses a huge challenge balance-wise. Even if every character was balanced individually, there will be some team/gem combo that be a problem. The game will have broke stuff no matter what, so all I ask is that they at least try to give everyone something broke and balance the game that way.
