I’m not talking about character reveals. MVC3 didn’t start churning out characters until after E3. I expect the same to happen here, even though the initial reveal is much earlier. That being said, I don’t see Capcom staying completely silent on a brand new game until the last 6 months before release. This isn’t like Injustice 1 to 2. There are a lot of new things Capcom is trying to achieve with this game. We can expect them to be at least as engaged as with SFV. I smell a stage demo coming soon, or at the very least a more in-depth explanation of the system mechanics/button layout for us to provide early feedback on.
Seems like too much of an old school approach to me. If MVCI isn’t playable by E3 chances are a 2017 release is not happening. Back when patches didn’t exist and expectations weren’t as high you could do all your development secluded and without the public bothering you. These days it’s actually better to expose your unfinished product early so your community can help your development team find the major flaws and help reach their growing expectations.
SFV, despite what some say/said about it, is one of the most balanced SF titles to date because of how they handled development. The casual content is a different story, but as far as core gameplay goes they did things right.
I’m not saying they need to let us design the game for them. I couldn’t care less how it works, as long as it does work. I just think that by now game developers know that it is nearly impossible to predict how their games will be played in the hands of capable players. Why not give yourself a demo of that scenario so you can frame the rest of your development around that?
Disregarding the November release date which means that E3 news are wayyy too late for advertisement purposes, this is Marvel we are talking about and Marvel (and obviously Capcom but more Marvel) likes their money.
Do you think they will let an opportunity slip to advertise someone from GOTG in MvC to advertise and improve sales for the movie, the toy line and the videogame? Sorry but #notmymarvel
Having “late” advertising is not an issue. Nintendo unveiled the Switch 5 months before it’s released and went silent for three months. We didn’t get any important info (officially) until January. Didn’t stop it from having a successful launch according to GameStop.
Marvel doesn’t need a game to promote GotG. The first movie grossed over $750 million and lauded as one of the best films in the MCU. The advertising for the second film is already in full swing. Besides, Guardians is getting it’s own game from Telltales with episode 1 releasing within the movie window. It would be better for Marvel to promote the dedicated Guardians game to ride movie hype.
I’ll wait to see what the failure and return rates are for the Switch. I see a lot of bad things about the Switch as well but it’s not certain if the majority of owners are having those problems.
