How I’d do Spiderman is this:

Keep his default as Peter Parker, but just give him Miles’ venom sting as a new move, and have an alternate set of costumes that also change his voice to Miles.

Same with Thor, if you want Fem-Thor in then just swap his model and voice for the female version, but keep everything else about their moveset the same.

Your question is stupid, it’s basically like asking why Ryu is still here. Morrigan is the main heroine of Darkstalkers and the face of the franchise, she’s not ever going away. Deal with it.

One thing I’m wondering is: how early in the development are they? We have all been saying (myself included) “oh I’m not worried about that, it’s early” regarding myriad issues. However, if the game is slated for a 2017 release then it really can’t be that early, no?

I’m guessing it’s on UE4 and it’s built on a lot of the work done for SFV to make a 2 fighter work on that engine. Also, a lot of the gameplay concepts are probably more finalized that what SFV had at its reveal.

Just from looking at it it seems more “finished” than SF5 was during its reveal. Like at one point during a SF5 trailer or demo or something I remember one of the characters literally had no eyebrows. Infinite on the other hand seems more polished, which is why I’m assuming they are pretty far along. Hopefully they’ll let us demo it soon so they can start getting feedback

Maybe you’re right, idk; maybe the Infinite character style just looks better to me than 5s so that’s why I’m saying it seems more polished. 2017 release seems pretty ambitious, although Capcom has released an unfinished product before so I expect it to be released on time tbh

Any male rep from darkstalkers will do for me. I also think talbain would be a great fit. Though all DS characters are very ‘‘Marvel-y’’, in reality. I’d say dimitri isn’t probable due to being the shoto of DS, and I don’t think capcom wants character redundancy in marvel games anymore. But who knows I might be wrong.

In terms of variety and originality I think anakaris fits the bill perfectly. The argument that he’s not popular(or not popular anymore at least) doesn’t hold much ground for me given how mvc3 panned out. That game had obscure and odd choices.

What I’m the most curious to know is if they’re going for a giant ass roster or a smaller roster this time around, seeing they can rip assets straight from mvc3 and update them.
Also really curious to see if they’ll attempt to make hunter(from monster hunter) a character. I remember a fun discussion a while ago about how that could possibly work out. Just assign every button, be it standing or crouching or jumping to a different weapon from the series. Have the default costume be the rathalos armor because it’s the most iconic. Then make the alt colors be shit like tigrex, rathian, deviljho, etc and BOOM there you go.

I think Talbain/Venom is an interesting pairing or rivalry.

One thing I’m understanding from the interviews is that story wise this will be literally Marvel vs. Capcom. Like the entire Marvel universe vs the entire Capcom universe.
I know nobody gives a shit about that (especially in a crossover game), but I find the idea behind that potentially interesting. Hope that the writers stem from Marvel and not Capcom though.

Dude, as one of the regular lore nerds from the SF5 boards, I’m hyped that MvC will finally get a story mode.

I’m usually a little skeptical because the main purpose of crossover games is just to satisfy the fancy of seeing your favorite heroes from different franchises finally fight one against each other. However if they really “explained” the collision of the two worlds and built a plot around that it could lead to very intriguing ideas. We’ll see.

MvCI story mode seems like a bad idea for the following reasons

1)Character focus
In crossovers such as this, there are so many characters that would not only all need to be true to themselves, but also not be superfluous eye candy and have substance. It’s likely that you’d have a core group of about 6 (3 from each side) going about doing something with the story focusing on them. A crossover has so many characters that deserve focus, but it’d be impossible to give it to all of them that deserve it (and since most of the characters are their own leads, there’s rarely enough time to get them across adequately and it can lead to major consequences). A Strider fan wouldn’t want Strider’s only role in a story to be to show up, try to kill someone, fail, and never be seen again, but chances are that’s exactly what would happen due to time

2)No Tension
In a fan service mascot game, there is no real reason for a new threat to have any menace because there’s no stakes. Is Marvel going to kill of Captain America in some crossover event game that they don’t even own?

3)Disney
Or better yet, would Disney? This is the same company that wouldn’t let 99% of their own characters have a meaningful impact in Kingdom Hearts because they didn’t want to have the Square-Enix characters and gameplay mess up their stories.

4. Capcom
   Think of Capcom’s track record of telling stories in it’s fighting games, heck even in general. Do you really think they’d be capable of pulling something like this off?

5. Development focus
   And finally/most importantly, if they did manage to pull it off and dedicate all this time to making the story as good as it is, that’s a whole lot of time, resources, and energy that could have gone to refining the gameplay and improving it

If they do it any pull it off, terrific! I’ll gladly eat my words. Am I saying you shouldn’t hope? No. I’m just saying that there’s a lot that can go wrong.

I’d absolutely love that. Something like Soul could give Ryu access to Evil Ryu like moves or improved combos/hypers like Hado Kakusei. Lot’s of ways they can play around with this.

Yeah this. I’d much rather they function like Isms. Much easier to give characters general buffs/abilities rather than try to pin down a unique one for every single character.

Plus it adds a layer of depth to team building. Every interview so far makes the infinity stone system sound pretty substantial. In fact they compared them to cvs2 grooves.

I doubt they’d do that. In the interview on Twitch they said they wanted things to play out so that you just pick the the two characters you like and go at it without having to worry about team building and synergy. Having unique skills with unique gems seems to go against this philosophy imo as we’d very likely end up back in a spot where everyone uses Ryu power stone for Denjin mode etc.

If we can’t get any more Spider people as separate characters (i.e Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy who are around Peter’s age when he was in high school/college), they can always come to a compromise and just have separate Miles and Gwen costumes that have their respective voices on their costumes.

They’re not going to do that, they’re not going to hire VAs just for alts.

That and Spider-Man has a lot of costumes to pick from for potential alt costume.

Why would Peter have the Venom Sting? Peter doesn’t have that power, it wouldn’t make sense.

Miles is the only one that has the Venom sting and an invisibilityability, which Peter also doesn’t have.

Even if they did give Peter a Miles alt, i doubt they’d give him his powers. That seems unlikely.

And again, i don’t think they would go that far for an alt. Especially since it would be much simpler to give him some of his own costumes.

I don’t know about that, Spider-Gwen has been around longer. Though i like both, so eh.

In any case, i’d say they’re both something of a long shot.
