Heh…you know Children of the Atom and the VS series were created SPECIFICALLY for filthy casuals. That’s why chain combos, magic series, and qcf + 2 button supers were a thing.
FGC MADE them hardcore on their own. With the exception of OMG LET’S THROW IN EVERYTHING MvC2 (which was designed for…I don’t know who. But hey! It worked out!), I’d argue all VS games are targeted for casuals…
I still don’t think it’s too late… there are plenty of buttons on a standard controller to make it work. I’m curious if they took away assist AND plan to make the game 4 button…
But according to that leak they haven’t even been sold on a button scheme lol… Don’t get me wrong, I am happy we saw something and I actually liked what I saw… but something tells me they are way further behind in development then a late 2017 release would have you believe.
Just like the SFV forums before the game was out, I can’t wait to see the 180 made by the people currently criticizing the game once it’s further along its development.
I’m excited, but I’m trying my best not to hate or love the gameplay too much because of how much it’s likely to change.
Except you completely missed the point because it isn’t even a well-defined term. It’s the FGC’s unicorn that apparently turns up when the game is “simplified” but we never actually see it…
I think you’re right and that this was just a case of “well, this is going to be pretty hype, string all this shit together and show it off…who cares about where we are in the development”. That’s what I’m hoping at least.
This is such a dumb attitude. Who is to say that the “180 made” wasn’t because of the feedback Capcom heard from the fans about the direction of the game? Discussions like these are healthy
You don’t see them because they don’t interact with us much. The reality is that we have plenty of casual players in the FGC too. People would know this if the community part was emphasized more now a days than the eSports stuff.
This place is about getting better. Some do it for fun others do it to go to tournaments. Our casuals aren’t behaving in the same way as people who need story mode.
Intersting. However, it seems like the Capcom design goal these days is to cater to the people who “need story mode” (hence the focus on story, “accessibility”, etc) rather than the people who play for fun and hope to get better, which to me is a questionable philosophy…
Fgc casual used to mean “yeah ill show up at this tourney but i dont really play or grind this game, ive got a few combos and just play for fun”
Fgc casual now is just “imma stream monster who never leaves my room or plays the game outside of the non-versus modes, but ill shitpost about whos top tier based on the streams i watch”
There’s nothing wrong with simplification if done well – and sometimes, like with Marvel, it turns into something great. Capcom goes for the mainstream because that makes them money – they always have. And it DOES work. The reason we get new members on SRK is because new players played enough to feel like they want to make a jump into the competitive/more hardcore group of players.
