MVC Infinite Lounge: DLC Characters and Costumes launch Dec 5th

I’m not worried about it. Each Marvel game is simplified to appeal to casuals only for the game to mutate into something only hardcores can get into. I don’t expect that to change with this game.

What I don’t really understand about this attitude is: the FGC came from somewhere. Back in the day, people still got into the game despite them being “unaccesible” and without story mode and all that nonsense. So why is it all the sudden that people need all the extra bells a whistles, what changed? Also, what sort of evidence is there that this approach works? SF5 was “simplified” with the hope of bringing in an army of “casuals”, but that didn’t happen and in the process they alienated some old fans.

They said the same about Marvel 2… and 3… and SF4… and 5…

^this right here is the real

also lets keep character request/dream list to the proper thread.

wouldn’t a logical thing to do is for a fighting game to have like a plethora of minigames that are legit fun, but also beef up the casual’s fundamentals? could also be a good way to mix in story elements on the spot or flesh out the universe by making the games creative and relevant to the universe. Like… idk, a good example that comes to mind is sean’s basketball bonus stage in 3s. Like flesh that out into more of a true minigame and tie some creative character interaction in there

also, when is more gameplay for mahvel scheduled today?

The second one is probably her Binary mode. What I’m wondering about however is if she automatically goes into the first, armored mode when she supers, and if she goes into Binary mode when she hits her level 3.

Fair enough, but has there ever been this big of a departure from the “bread and butter” mechanics (including a major stated design goal of simplifying the gameplay)? Like I understand execution was made easier going from MvC2 to MvC3, but it was still 3v3 with assists. This seems wayyyyyy more drastic and to deny that is being sort of hard-headed imho…

Marvel 3 isnt hardcore tho

MK9. The game had a story mode with a budget and a ton of single player modes. Many people saw it as the new standard for what a fighter should have. The game isn’t difficult to learn if you can tolerate NRS game design.

I think it’s a return to 2v2 classic with an emphasis on a groove like gem system… Shouldn’t be surprising now that we know Combo is a battle director. But you are correct it is a departure from the Marvel we knew for the past 12 years?

I love this post. IMO if ur on srk talkin abt story mode ur a fuccboi

I just wish there was some sort of middle ground instead of punishing older players at the expense of new ones. I really don’t like this design philosophy the more I think about it. Making the entire game simplified imo is not the way to go. A better approach imo would be to introduce a thing like “stylish” mode from Guilty Gear (go look it up) because that allows new players an “easy mode” if they want, but also gives older fans the things they want (execution and whatnot)

Any change in a game will alienate some people and make some other join the band. There’s no way to make everyone happy.
SF4 alienated a lot of 3S players and was criticized all throughout its lifespan, but it was a commercial success nonetheless. And I guess that’s what Capcom wants.
Gems are supposed to be substitutes to assists… let’s see what they come up with.

If that neogaf leak is legit, they aren’t even completely sold on the system that they showed off… wouldn’t be the first time, SFV went through a similar… “just throwing this shit out here to see what sticks” phase over a year before launch.

My understanding was Gems are substitutes to X-Factor, so why couldn’t we have assists and gems?

Minigames dont make people feel like they played a fighting game. You need vs computer stuff repackaged in 20 ways.

If that’s true I’m going to write a letter to Combofiend…

I’m going to treat it as it’s own game. Capcom doesn’t want to try to recapture the magic of MvC2 like they tried to do with MvC3. Hopefully tag cancels will fill the void of not having assists. It’s hard to imagine how the Marvel neutral game will look without them.

Nothing in mvc3 tried to recapture the magic of mvc2. Maybe the magic of XvsSF, but not 2.

Well, I’m still going to give it a chance (and I understand it’s still early), but you’re way more optimistic than me. I saw those buzzwords: “accessible”, “casual fans”, and “simplified approach”, then saw no assists and got that familiar disgusted @ Capcom feeling lol. I’m hoping, like some have mentioned, that this was just something thrown together to get people hype and that none of this is really set in stone.

I’m so happy UMvC3 is coming to PC.

The game feels faster overall on PS4 (played at a friends house) because there’s no frame rate drops, especially during specific moves or intense stage backgrounds (think of that big boat from Asgard as a perfect example) The fact that game has a 60 FPS thanks to the newer hardware being able to run this old game easily means that combos actually easier. Obviously it won’t mean you have Chris G execution, but it does mean less combo drops in the grand scheme of things.
