What? That’s like the best idea ever to me. Getting casuals busy enough that they don’t have time or willingness to complain about command grabs being unfair because they were holding downback is the best of both worlds.
Maybe it got the dislikes if you mentioned NRS and MKX in that same post cause most SF people lose their minds at the mention of it. Please post it again so we could see the NaCl building up.
For now, everything that applies in the SFV section should apply, e.g. one thread only for each confirmed character, no threads for unconfirmed characters, etc.
He’s been legit for several years. You guys are late to the boat. He is the Moses of fighting game news. If you hear him sneeze, something MARVELous may happen.
Like others have said, Lupinko’s been legit for years. I still remember the hype his hints brought around here years ago, i look forward to more of the same.
Ah yes, more talk about the highly sought after casual (a term which isn’t even well-defined) who never seems to show up despite the game being simplified (at the expensive of older fans) just for him. Right now I’m really worried it’s just going to be a super-simplified, fan-servicey sort of game
Because people, even in SRK, don’t want to hear that. There were people posting in SRK who were mad that the only things in SF5 were trials, training mode and online + offline versus. People in SRK mad about this. “I cant believe I spent 60 dollars on training mode and versus”. Until recently, (because I did story mode stuff so I could entertain myself while my daughter slept) I hadn’t actually touched story mode. Did the trials for money, otherwise they would’ve been those things to do because they’re there. 99% of my time is in versus + training mode. You check any other fighting game and for this community it should be the same thing.
This is the inherent problem with fighting games: the actual game is versus, the dev time is putting thought into how moves work and how they’ll interact with each other. Everything else is basically wankery. For some reason, this isn’t appealing to people. My conclusion is that fighting games make you feel bad for losing unlike team games where losing is a team effort so it may not have been entirely your fault. In order to have fun “playing” a fighting game but not “playing” a fighting game, devs need to give people fighting gamey things to do so they* feel* that they played the game.
One of my best friends spent some time in the summer and he was strictly in that category. He’d ask me if I played MK9 or injustice and I’d reply with a fighting game answer. The problem was that he wasn’t asking if I’d played it with people, he was asking if I played the story mode. He had no interest in Killer Instinct because of the lack of story mode too. Over the summer he started on SF5 and actually playing fighting games and his understanding of what the game actually is as opposed to what he thought it was completely changed. that doesn’t mean that he would’ve stopped liking story mode, it just means that now he understands that the story mode is nowhere near the actual meat of the game.
Any fighting game you put out, ANY of them, has to come with as much wankery as possible. Add random crap nobody is going to use so that people feel that they bought a fleshed out game. Literally have a staff working on gameplay, and then another team working on bullshit that isn’t versus. “We wanna do a mode where heads explode whenever you land a super” Yeah sure do that. We want to do a mode where you fight 2 people at once to win Laura’s heart. Yeah sure do that too. A lot of the new people seem to want modes so they can feel they bought a game. Casuals need as much bullshit on the menu screen so they can go “wow this is a great experience FGC EVO HYPE ZOMG SMASH IS TOTALLY A FIGHTING GAME”.
So yeah, modes. Shiny modes, fancy modes, add shit nobody is really going to play like Heroes and Heralds because those fucking wankers just need as much crap shoveled in there as possible and because they need to know how Ryu is going to feel now that he can’t shake hands with Wolverine anymore. People fucking care about that shit and you better give it to them so that they can spend 60 dollars feeling good and we can buy the game for 40 during launch at gamestop once they sell it back.
