One thing iāll say is that i donāt think Marvel vs Capcom is defined by 3v3. Before mvc3, the only game to have it was mvc2. The rest is 2v2 (sometimes with assist characters). However i do feel like assists are a core part of MvC ever since it was introduced in MSHvSF and it would be sad to see that go away. The control scheme would allow for it i feel, as long as stone activation is like xfactor with pressing all 4 attack buttons. Arcade stick people wouldnāt have a problem with that and controller people could have it as an L1 macro. The other buttons would be standard:
square = light
triangle = medium
circle = heavy
cross = launch(?)
R1 = tag
R2 = assist
L1 = macro for all 4 face buttons
I donāt have a problem with simplification in theory, I do have a problem with simplifying an entire game though at the expense of older fans (like removing assists etc, especially when itās removing something that has become a defining feature of the series). Like I said before, Guilty Gear took a pretty solid approach with the āstylish typeā. It allows new players to compete while basically just mashing buttons (although this is all I do anyway ._.), familiarizing themselves with the game and feeling good about the experience, while still leaving other āhard stuffā in for the more experienced players.
MvC3 was beyond simplified on a lot of things that mattered. They removed anti air assists, ones with invulnerability, made damage easier to get (since restrictions on where you could combo from and how many OTGs you could get were cut) and gave you buttons that guaranteed you a combo. No idea where they take it from there tbh.
Seems to me that going 2v2 is simply for balancing issues. Capcom (and Marvel/Disney) will want this to be an esport at some level. Thereās no way they could balance a 3v3 Marvel game based on their latest incarnations.
20 seconds in the gameplay trailerā¦iron man does a combo to launch tags in cap marvel she does a combo to knockdown tag back to iron man who does iron avenger
so no hard KD after air combo or flyscreen, and hypers can OTG, closer to mvc3? not sure how i feel about that
Itās not a dumb attitude to have when the game literally just debuted and isnāt out for another year. Iām definitely down to have this conversation again in a few months. Maybe even by E3. For now, though, what the hell? Calm yourself.
They want the meta to evolve around the use of stonesā¦
-Says there is more variety for the hardcore then previous iterations.
-They brought in Combofiend to ensure the FGC wasnāt left behind while catering to casuals
-Believes that with stones your combo assist tags will be augmented in a way that creates more variety with teams instead of having one character just come out and span an assist to get someone off the ground
I only caught the last 6 minutes or so but that is what stood out to me in the discussion.
-The game was developed by a Japanese studio
-Developers that worked on the VS series from the 90s are working on this game
-Captain Marvel and X will be central characters in the story
-Controls are more accessible
-Game will be packed with features
