Oh please. It’s like people aren’t used to the typical video game release news cycle. We always get little to no news after the announcement and then a mountain of news as the release gets closer.
As I stated in the lounge, “familiarity breeds apathy”.* If you start too early with the regular scheduled news releases, you end up actually killing a lot of hype. Even KoFXIV did their weekly info drops only 4 or so months before launch.
*The full quote itself is “in communications, familiarty breeds apathy”, and was stated by William Bernbach, one of the most influential persons in advertising and promotion.
Oh please. Street Fighter V got a full stage demo the month after it was first revealed, then had an exhibition match with an updated build compared to the initial showcase, and proceeded to drop new info failry often, whether it was a new character reveal, an interview with the developers, or simply a batch of new screenshots
With MVCI, they showed a CG-trailer, then a short gameplay trailer, and no news were presented for 2 months since that last trailer
If they aren’t telling us any news next week at the Helen reveal event for SFV, then the earliest we might get new piece of information about the game is at GDC 2017 in late February/early March
Not counting the possibility that the stage demo was done mostly as a reaction to the leaked trailer, even with the Taipei demo, we never really learned anything new about SFV until they revealed Nash at the end of Feb, which was then followed by another break in information until they revealed Bison in late May. Even then, information only started coming out regularly after E3.
In any case, how many times have we been through this already. Every single fighting game release has followed the same pattern. Sure you can say “but so-and-so had this and that info at this or that time”, but those specifics don’t matter. The point is that every marketing effort for these games begins with a slow trickle of information before it ramps up as things get closer to release.
Rumors say the roster will be around the size of vanilla MvC3’s roster (probably equal to or a bit less). So they can start revealing like 2 to 4 characters starting in March (extra for June because of E3 & even more in July because of Evo/SDCC) & still be fine for an October release.
They don’t even have to reveal characters on a regular basis. In fact it would be better to make is somewhat irregular, so that people are caught off guard. Irregularity can build hype as much as regularity can kill it (and the only reason SNK did the latter with KOFXIV was because the roster had already been leaked before they did their reveals).
I’m thinking latest we’ll see more reveals is early May. If we don’t get a GOTG character revealed around the time the movie comes out, I’ll be stunned.
Thats gonna be pretty ballsy if they wait til e3 that would literally give them 6 months to reveal the entire cast, which if its over 20 has to be more than 2 characters a month.
I doubt Capcom is gonna churn it out like that.
I think were going to get something in the next 2 months, definitely by may. Big character reveal at e3 and a high level exhibition at Evo.
That would imply that if Capcom keeps quiet now they won’t keep quiet after the game comes out, which, judging by SFV’s state of affairs, doesn’t really look like something of a possibility
After playing Resident Evil 7, does anyone else think Jack Baker would make a great marvel character? In the game he uses Shovels, Knives, Sledgehammers ,Pickaxes and Chainsaws. Perfect fodder for normals/specials. He also gets in a car in your first boss encounter with him, which could be used as a ghost rider bike style hyper combo. Not to mention all the personality he has with his voice and generally crazy manner (‘Welcome to the family son!’). It would tie in perfectly with the cross promotion that MVC does with their staple franchises.
First, canonically, Ustanak is an upgrade for Nemesis in every way. And Jack Baker also fills the stalking menace.
The problem for Jack Baker in filling the Nemesis spot is that besides Ustanak, Jack Krauser has high probabilities as a Leon foe and for this game, he is Capcom’s better version of Hawkeye as well.
Also, Frank West fills the many items used niche in a hero version.
I don’t see Jack Baker here in this game. Maybe the next one.
Jack Krauser would be incredible as an MVC character. He literally has Bionic arm in RE4 Mercenaries and yeah the arrows and stun grenades would be easy to make to a moveset out of. I think hes too obscure to make it though, seeing as he isnt really a big part of the series outside of 4. I think Leon will be in though.
Jack Baker could possibly be a bit too similar to Frank West what with the whole chainsaw thing, but I think they’d make him slower and bigger than Frank. More heavy hitting with a command grab possibly. And Frank West himself might be redesigned also, as I can’t see the level up system returning for him. So they could be very different characters in infinite.
I think Birkin could be a cool choice. The RE choices might be very RE2 inspired with the RE2 remake being the next big RE game. Excluding Wesker because I don’t see them leaving him out after how popular he was in Mahvel 3.
I don’t think they will put a RE7 rep in. The hype for this game will be low when MVCI gets released. I can see RE2 Leon and a villain. They can go safe with Wesker, or add William Birkin. They could make him a regular brawler in his first form or go crazy with his transformations.
I think Nemesis’ moveset would transition well to Groot with his roots working as noodles. Put Rocket Raccoon firing a bazooka as a special move and call it a day.
Black Widow could take Jill’s moveset a bit.
If they can make space for another gun user, they could add Regina from Dino Crisis, playing like Jill from MVC2, but summoning dinosaurs instead of zombies.
