Spidey villains are, by and large, street level. There are times where they act above their station, but none of them are extraordinary when they step up their game, as nearly all of them have a more dangerous counterpart that fights the Avengers, Fantastic Four, or X-men. Which makes sense since Peter isn’t a hero known for being Mary Sue smart like half the Avengers(Tony, Hank, Bruce or T’Challa), nor is he known for being a cosmic level powerhouse like Phoenix or Thor. Peter’s a smart cookie with above average strength and a cool set of powers, but his main draw was more about how a being a hero affects his own life in a myriad of ways, which requires a more grounded rogues gallery compared to the much more fantastic/over the top enemies that entire teams go up against.
Basically, Spidey handling villains on his own scales their powers down a bit because The Avengers would step up if it was someone requiring an entire team/The Hulk and Thor, and adding more heroes diverts the focus off the grounded elements that make Spidey relatable
As an aside, someone compared Osborn to Lex Luthor. When comparing super geniuses, it’s important to remember the formulas:
Doc Ock + Osborn x3 = Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor + Ethics + A Good Time = Iron Man
Lex Luthor + Ethics + A Bad Time = Batman
{Iron Man + Batman + Doctor Strange) x (Ego + Ambition) = Dr Doom.
So you see, mathematically, Dr Doom is the superior mastermind.

That’s not always true. Sandman was a formidable foe to the Fantastic Four as a member of the Frightful Four and he’s a former member of the Avengers. Sandman is also one of the few characters effective against the Marvel Zombies. He’s usually great when he’s not being a petty criminal.

Someone mentioned that Carnage got wrecked by Sentry, well other times he’s overtaken the SILVER SURFER by his symbiote alone and drove him mad, corrupted and controlled an entire town while controlling the Avengers, been beaten by Deadpool, etc
Look at Doc Ock, been a world challenging threat in Ends of the Earth, has gotten curb stomped by Spider-man numerous times, has beaten Tony and had the cringe-inducing moment of making him KISS a tentacle, been flicked unconscious by Joe Fix it with one finger.
Mysterio often looked at as a joke, but in the Original Old Man Logan, made the greatest illusions of his career, fooled Wolverine’s senses and made him kill a looooooooooot of people he loved.
Rhino is a lovable oaf, he’s been a tragic oaf, he’s routinely beaten by Hulk and Spidey, but in Flowers for Rhino, he became the GREATEST genius of the Marvel Universe and deduced Spider-man’s identity as well as many secrets of the universe till he couldn’t take the exponential gains in knowledge and reset himself.
If the writers want they can make Paste Pot Pete kill Galactus. Squirrel Girl beat doom and for a while her whole thing was unpredictability, but then they wrote her beating Thanos off panel and that became her shtick.
In a game like this people wanna have fun, if they’re going for accuracy then Shuma friggin’ Gorath should have been the end boss of MSH not just a pink weird thing to those unfamiliar with it.
Uhh… Blackheart doesn’t have a spell charging mechanic. Dormammu doesn’t have demons coming out of his heavy normals.
As someone who’s used both characters, their overlap is a bit more subtle than this. Both of them are long-range projectile zoners with an AA column projectile, really good supers, and massive normals. Dormammu has a lot more “technical” stuff like flight, 8-way airdash, teleports, and spells, but the general playstyle between the two of them is similar. Blackheart, by comparison, has a lot more tracking to his projectiles so you can’t avoid his zoning as easily. While I would love (and totally play) the two of them together, I see Capcom prioritizing roster variety here.
I just want to see their non-human fighters. My favorites in the series have always been characters that break the rules of normal humanoid anatomy such as Shuma-Gorath, Blackheart, and Amaterasu.
We know the real reason Blackheart isn’t getting in is because of his dash animation, since they’ll be too lazy to animate it.

Oh man, that gave me the idea of having Cross Universe Combination Supers. Special ‘Level 3’ Hyper Combos that unlock when certain team compositions are in play. Nemesis and Venom has the Symbiote infesting Nemesis for infinite tentacle power/power up state. Ryu and Iron Fist chain uppercutting with Ki enhanced fists. Firebrand dicing up a foe to distract while Dormammu prepares a stupidly high damaging spell. Spencer knocking someone away, Cap throwing the shield to whack them when spencer reals them in and Shield/Bionic sandwich.
And my personal favorite: The Uber Guilt Soul Massacre involving Ghost Rider tying up and Penance staring a dude, kicking him away, right into the arms of a waiting SHun Goku Satsu. That shit is some serious soul kill right there

You’re rememberimg those instances wrong. Clentus didn’t do anything to the Silver Surfer, let alone take control of him. The red symbiote had a abandoned Cletus in favor of using the Surfer as his new host, as a way of getting revenge on the Surfer for having lead Galactus to the symbiote/Klyntar home planet.
That encounter also ended with Surfer easily defeating Carnage after the red symbiote reunited with Cletus.
That has been disproven several times. Especially when it comes to Electro and Sandman.
Hell, Ends of the Earth showed how effective the Sinister Six can be.
So any guess on when the next reveal will be? Hopefully it won’t be months.
Capcom can reveal new characters for CES next month. Hopefully a control scheme has been decided by then.
