MvC:I the 'Sales' topic (financial status of the game)

Recall all copies and put 2 years more development time into it with a decent budget.

The sales are very low because of Captain Marvel.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite has shipped 900,000 units across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC since, Capcom’s latest financial results reveal.

The crossover fighting game launched in North America and Europe on September 19, and in Japan on September 21.

Japanese sales tracker Media Create last tracked sales of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite in Japan at 8,273 units for the PlayStation 4 version.

Not bad in my opinion. The games marketing was ass but still almost broke a mil. Black Friday and Christmas is around the corner so it will break a mil. Continued support and GOOD dlc characters/costumes will make the game more attractive over time.

I want my Blade, Asura, and Vanessa.

Let’s get Nilin!

Yeah, a million would be fine if Capcom set their goals there, but remember that these are the people who shelved Darkstalkers when the port didn’t sell 2 million. I imagine they aren’t happy with barely getting 1 million off of a game they had to pay Marvel for AND deal with their bullshit. Even if you don’t think it’s a failure, Capcom considers anything less than a blockbuster a failure. That is why they’ve been so strict on their fighting games.

i forgot all about this character

Shipped, huh? But that’s not the same as sold, is it?

and i guess it doesn’t account for PSN downloads too.

Yes and no. It’s not the same as sold to consumers. However, they are sales. The retailers have already paid Capcom for the units they received. It’s similar to automobiles.

Once a car reaches the dealership, it’s already been sold. However, if it’s not popular, a reorder won’t be placed. It’s the reason for SFVs low numbers after the initial big shipment. Retailers are not going to place additional orders when they are having trouble selling the initial shipment.

Can’t retailers send shipped copies of games back if they fail to sell?

Not unless capcom agreed to it before hand. That 900k is money in bank for them, it’s the retailers who have to eat the loss if they over ordered

correct me if im wrong but is 900k units shipped right? so that means…

900,000 * 59.99 = 53,991,000

if this is correct then its indeed money in the bank. and

More like $31,500,000. IIRC after the licensing fee and distribution/retail gets their cut. The publisher gets approximately $35 per unit sold on a $60 game.

Edit: Forgot about the Marvel license. So it’s probably more like $25 each copy for Infinite. So lets say around $22,500,000.

you forgot to substract the sony/microsoft fees (it’s about 30%+ if memory serves right). And the store’s margin (about 20%).

the official retail/online price is not even 60 in every country.

here a overview about the official price difference in various countrys
https://steamdb.info/app/493840/

then the already mentioned cut they get trough resellers ect…so the income is much less than 60usd per unit.

thank you guys for the insight

Nope. They either sell them or chuck them in a landfill.

900K sounds totally feasible to sell to retailers, just off the name recognition alone of Marvel & Capcom.

However, I don’t see retailers reordering another 900k, or even half that, anytime soon.

That’s good for a game that cost them 200k to make, lol.

Seems like shovelware is Capcom’s new thing.
