MvC 3 Netcode

the game sucks online. Remember that lightning fast net code article capcom tried to sell us?

I find it pretty hard to do the dogs link, c.a, c.b, delay, s.c, repeat and also weskers qcf+b, c teleport, falling j.c, land, s.b, etc…

both of these series are pretty much links so its really easy to spot the input delay. Offline, I’m golden on the wesker combo but it feels like I can’t time it worth shit online.

What do you mean “pretty much links”

I must be the only person who doesnt have flawless internet in whatever game everyone has that has flawless internet. I’ve had good days and days where I was better off playing offline.

Lag hasn’t really been a problem on PSN, but on XBL about all I get is “connection to host has been lost” or “failed to join game session” with all ports forwarded/etc

One of the easiest ways to spot input delay online is to pick a character with a lot of links. If you can link offline pretty well but online you suck, chance are that online has input delay. That’s why I referenced those 2 particular combos, cause they can test the netcode pretty easily right off the bat.

Aside from joining matches having issues (Fight request rather than using wi-fi menu seems to fix this though) i can’t really complain about the wifi. It’s got lag, but I can still do everything I can offline so far, and I’ve yet to eat a super I could block because of lag.

I’ve had about 5-6 matches. My 360 is wired up, not wireless. I’m having one hell of a time trying to do stuff because there’s a pretty bad lag. I have 24MB fibre op net, and it shouldn’t BE that bad. Should I be DMZing my 360? and if so, anyone know how to do that? or can point me in that direction? :frowning:

The people I played against were in “my same area” and I have a friend on the west coast, where it never lagged in SSF4, but now it’s just nasty… : (

Lag was fine earlier on PSN for me, but now it’s brutal- I’ve now had three straight losses due to not being able to activate X-Factor when I needed to.

XBL non stop, all I get is that. It’s fucking infuriating. Not a single ranked match I can play today. I’ve tried probably 40-50 times inbetween joining lobbys, and even that I have to get lucky on. One in like 5 I can join, 1 player match today, the rest have failed out of 20+ trys. I’ve done nothing but look up how to try to configure my router, everything is open, there is nothing left for me to do.

Anyone found a successful solution for it?

Oh and to open up the dmz

run > cmd > ipconfig
find your ip, put it in firefox or IE or chrome or w/e you use
go to your routers setting, and look for gaming or port fowarding
it’ll be under there somewhere, put in your 360s ip address and bingo, done.

Your internet speed has nothing to do with latency people, distance does, you can’t make electrical signals or light waves travel faster, or bypass routing processing, if you are in WC and playing someone on EC you WILL get latency even with a stable internet connection (around 70-80ms).

The netcode for this game, same as for SSF4 handles latency by adding an input delay equal to the latency between both parties.

GGPO, MvC2, SSF2THD handle the latency on a different fashion, it has a fixed input delay, and only when sync conflicts arise you get a rollback to the correct state which surprisingly is not as often as you might think (unless you go over 110ms of latency, then it gets pretty bad but still playable)

GGPO netcode is much better and sofisticated, but hard to implement on 3D games, specially on games where the processor it’s put near it’s limits to begin with, Seth Killian said they COULD have done it, but it was TOO HARD, so yeah, archaic shitty online we get.

ponder already explained that mvc3 doesnt use ggpo becaue the team of mvc3 wasnt able to implement it to the way that they made the game, the new arcade dbz game use ggpo fine
it doesnt have anything to do with the game being 3d

Ranked is freaking abhorrent. It almost never connects successfully, then it spontaneously boots me off xbl and says I will be penalized.

All those people who complained about S/SSFIV netcode had no idea how good they had it. The game is awesome but the netcode (and no spec mode??? no replays??) seriously limits it.

same here. I thought it was just me.

The code is just crap. It’s like TvC but possibly worse. Every other xbl game I own goes at blazing speed–this one connects once in 50 tries.

all I’ve done today is try to find people with the same problems and if anyone has found a fix. No dice though :\

after the monstrosity that was KoF 12 or whatever number it is, one would think that ANY fighting game being released would have good net code. Playing offline is all fine and good, but I’ve had a decent time playing SFIV with decent net code (not good but serviceable-which is all I want)…

I played the online for 2 hours last night and it was a mixed bag. I suffered terrible input lag when I was in player matches. I kept dropping my Spencer combos because the game kept reading my inputs too late. Fucking terrible. I fared better on ranked where I got better performance. I did a friendly earlier today and had no problems.

Lag is still pretty bad on PSN.

Mashing 2a into launcher might as well be unblockable, on top of fast startup fullscreen beams. Frustrating.

I get that all the time; ADSL 4 Mb connection, 786 Kb upload.

It’s because you’re all slamming their god damn servers. Of course you’re having trouble connecting to other players. There’s thousands of you all gunning for the same servers simultaneously. They simply can’t handle that kind of load all at once. By next week it’ll be fine.

its gonna keep being bad cause the netcode is ass
