I thought SSF4 was P2P. At least on PS3.
When you say hardwire do you mean you can’t physically connect your console to the router?
If this is the case and you are trying to play wireless then it is not going to work, normal wirless setups are not up to playing video games.
A solution might be to look up ethernet through powerlines adapters. They are just as good as a real hardwire set up.
I confirm PLC adapters are great if you have a recent electric instalation. I use a 200Mb PLC and it’s really good.
I never have lagg on SSF4… unless I am playing someone from Japan but even then it’s not lagging that bad
Same here.
Although I do think developers are lazy with netcode anymore since they can assume everyone is on some kind of broadband. Pinging on a website tells you ABSOLUTELY nothing. It almost certainly has a lot more to do with Capcom’s servers getting slammed today. It’ll likely be sketchy for a few days and then subside and even out. You’re still using capcom to connect to other players.
How can you tell your ping relative to capcom’s mvc3 servers in ms? Just hope they have enough servers so no country/state is screwed out of having a good connection. In sf4 if i played from NJ or just down the street in Mass with my friends (from Mass) the experience was the same. We’re still having to connect to that NE server so even if you’re next door if you’re not on a LAN you’re going to have to bounce off Capcom’s servers.
If someone has definitive proof otherwise it’d be interesting to hear it.
Well most of the time I dont lag in MvC3, but the input delay is what make this netcode so bad. In ranked match is where I found the less delay, still worse than ssf4.
this is the same conection i use when i play mvc2…never any problems in game. there will be issues with the menu or if the other person leaves the room, but when the game starts i rarely have bad connection.
mvc3 is unplayable at times DURING GAMEPLAY. so its not my connection. mvc3 netcode is just bad. I was playing P Gorath on here and right as he was about to K.O. me the game froze like he ragequit.
I dont profess to know the specifics of netcode, i just know when i play mvc2=great gameplay, and when i play mvc3=unplayable at times.
I don’t get how people can say “it’s not my connection, the code is just bad” when some people say it’s good, and other say it’s bad.
Obviously the difference has to come from your connection if everyone is using the same netcode. Your connection and the other guys connection are the only variables.
It’d be good to know what the Japanese think or what its like in Europe when its released, USA’s internet infrastructure is famously terrible.
could also be location…but im hearing alot of other complaints from people i run into in friendly mode.
with my connection, mvc2 is great and mvc3 isnt. so the variable there is mvc3 >_>
True enough.
You should just be able to pop the game in and have it running well online, especially if other games already do.
i hope the random freezes get patched, if indeed that is a bug. in this case i heartily endorse patching
Of course the netcode for this game is gonna be shitty, it’s created by the same ppl who worked on ssf4’s netcode. (Or I suppose you could say the netcode is awesome if you thought ssf4’s netplay was awesome as well. lol)
There was an interview article with Seth two weeks back in which he confirms this. Given how supposedly so many players are concerned about quality netplay I was surprised that this article (posted on SRK’s frontpage) received so little attention while news regarding character reveals got hit with over a hundred replies. But then again, that’s expected.
Shoryuken - NeoEmpire - Seth Answers Marvel vs Capcom 3 Questions
As usual, online for this game should play fantastic in Japan which will no doubt help them quickly level up.
Seth also said three months ago (or around that time) not to expect much from MvC3 network modes or coding. Surprised people didn’t accept that.
That article didn’t receive a lot of attention because believe it or not, most people are fine with the SSF4 netcode.
Even a lot of regular SRK members don’t play hardcore enough to worry about the overall downgrade in input accuracy that comes from online play (online play in general).
As far as the blatantly obvious lag that we all sometimes get, it doesn’t seem to be that common for most people. It happens, but it’s not a constant thing. As long as you’re not practicing for tournaments or whatever, you can still have a lot of fun online with SSF4.
An American-marketed and -centered game complete with netcode designed for non-American network infrastructure. Thanks again, Japan.
Dude there is only so much that you can do with netcode. Your Broadband infrastructure is the limiting factor here. Japan has one of the best in the world, USA with its complete lack of a competitive market (Time Warner and like 1 other big company) sux because the providers have no interest in investing in their infrastructure. With no competition why would they need to?
Write to your local member of government or a competition commission or whoever and tell them that the broadband providers are complacent and that it is time for government intervention to break the monopoly up a little, to attract customers the smaller providers will have to invest. In providing a competitive service.
You yourself complain that the Japanese will have a great time online and USA not. Why do you think that is? You both have the same software. Its because your hardware sucks.
Why do you think Seth told you not to get excited? Because Capcom can’t rewire the US internetz.
This is true. But there are two things wrong here:
-
Other genres have netcode that account for US infrastructure and implement workarounds, usually involving predictive algorithms, rollback, and absolutely no input lag. People have been playing highly competitive, fast-paced FPS in this country since the mid 90s. Our shit sucks, but there are workarounds.

I don’t mean to be offensive, but it took our corrupt politicans 30 years to realize our healthcare system was a clusterfuck despite the constant bitching and problems before anything got changed. And the changes still aren’t enough. Telling a bunch of random people on a relative small messageboard to write their Congressmen so they can play online games better ain’t gonna change shit. Orders to change the US network infrastructure will come from up top, like what’s (kinda) already happening with Obama’s national wireless broadband pipedream
Game ran smooth as butter when I was playing online last night. PS3 Version, wired connection
