Any news on when capcom is gonna patch this? if at all?
I’m very disappointed with the netcode, I cant find a match, it takes me a very very long time to find a match. I’m talking longer than 5mins! What pisses me off the most, is that capcom advertised “Teh godzorz netcode!” If i knew how the netcode was truly like, i would of reconsidered buying the game. This is as bad if not worse than the tekken 6 netcode which used to be one of the biggest let downs in fighting game history, looks like mvc3 beat it.
No they didn’t. They had a good track record for 2D games, even then, HDR was pretty much the best they had. MvC2 wasn’t bad…until you fought someone that actually knew his way around Mags. Then you get teleporting Mags Tridashing…yeah…
The SF4 netcode was ass. Not SNK ass mind you, though I don’t think there’s enough of an insulting word for SNK Game Netcode, but it was really…meh.
I expected nothing better from MvC3. And Capcom didn’t brag about it being good other than one statement. That’s not bragging. If it was braggable, Killian would’ve mentioned it every two seconds because if nothing else, he knows how important netplay is to us. I mean, he mentioned Training Mode every two seconds, and for the most part, it’s a pretty damn good training mode.
I don’t know why people expected it to be good. They didn’t have the track record for any of their 3D games being very good online.
The netcode itself seems decent, but the matchmaking sucks ass.
I feel like I’ve been paired up with more often with asians than with europeans, and I live in Sweden. 95% of the time it’s americans though, which is usually laggy for me.
And I can’t even tell it to just search for EU… The only option is “region: same” which seems to be limited to Nordic countries + Russia (lol?) for me, and I very rarely get a match with that option. I mean seriously, EU is way closer to me than most of Russia.
The few times I actually face someone geographically close to me, it’s pretty much lag free.
SSF4 was much better. You could browse a list and pick matches, and you saw their flags in the list. I can’t believe how scaled down the options are in MvC3 when it comes to getting a good match.
Console dumbing down + Japan not understanding netplay = MvC3 matchmaking
Edit: And those errors about not being able to connect or whatever… They would be somewhat tolerable if it didn’t RELAOD THE FREAKIN MENU every time. What’s the point of that?
I mean of course no one expects the netcode itself to be perfect with no lag or whatever, but AT LEAST GET THE MENU AND MATCHMAKING PART RIGHT, that shouldn’t be so hard.
THIS. Why can’t we have a list that shows flags, wired/wireless, ping/latency, disconnect % etc etc? Is that too scary for the masses or what.
I mean way back playing UT99, you just loaded the list of servers and selected one that had a good ping and decent number of people. It was 100x faster than finding a match in MvC3. And that was at least 10 years ago…
Question is, will capcom do anything about this? If they aren’t then I wish they would just tell me now, so I can stop taking the game so seriously. It will go on the shelf next to my tekken 6, I’d prolly go back to ssf4, coz atleast i can find matches in that game. Say what you want about ssf4’s netcode, but compared to mvc3 its god tier.
It’s true. People who don’t know how to play learn the online version of the game and because thats whats available to them. So the tactics they use usually revolve around input delay and they don’t care cause they think it’s fine especially if they’re winning. Sure beams and projectiles are good offline but online they are insane. Sure you can practice in lag in training and probably do well online but it’s a fake version of the game where strategy changes dramatically.
I just tried to give the game 1 more shot this morning and its just fucking terrible. I think the game is fun and worth the money for the offline alone but my friends are meh and I’m not traveling anywhere to play. I shouldn’t have to travel and play in tournaments to experience the actual game. This is why we have shit like ggpo. I’m probably just going to go back to HD remix after a 2 and a half year hiatus. I always had a great experience with it and it was probably the first great netplay in a console fighter. I played this morning and the netplay was awesome and I realize how bad I got at the game from playing sf4 for so long.
Actually playing a match seems fine. Decent connections (4 or 5 bars) and not a lot of lag spikes with those guys. It’s the matchmaking that sucks. Takes over 5-10 mins just to get in a match. And don’t even get me started on Ranked. You can’t see the skill level or connection to the person you are going to play. Why can you search for Player Lobbies and not Ranked ones?
I have to agree with clxjames. Today I managed to find a game with a player that had a decent connection, and it was awesome, very little lag and very enjoyable. The problem is finding people to play with in the first place. It can take an agonizing amount of time, but once you get started, its fun. That’s not saying that capcom shouldn’t implement ggpo, i think that if they did patch it with somekind of ggpo update (whilst seeming impossible) would make this game absolutely amazing. But capcom should atleast change the match making system, SF4 had a better match making system than this.
Even the best connections the delay is instantly noticeable. You might think its awesome but it’s because the match you played before that had a half a second of input delay.
Yin, what system are you on? If you’re on PS3 hit me up and we can do some sessions. This goes for any european that’s reading this and has a reasonably good connection!
Doubtful. If they did, I’m sure they would have addressed the matchmaking problem first, as it is integral. I for one cannot search for same location matches, in lobby nor ranked. I have to manually search lobby matches to play fellow european opponents and even then the input delay is somewhat noticeable, though not as bad as some make it to be. Ultimately though, even with a good connection the game does not play as it does offline.
Tessius, you going to be on tonight ? Send me a game invite.
This is Capcoms reasons we can’t ggpo in these modern games. The games that use the GGPO net code need to have 1 thing in common, they can’t be incredibly CPU heavy. You need to run 2 version of the game basically on 1 system. They version you’re playing on and the version that is checked for rollbacks.
Now with these modern games, they take up so much CPU that its impossible to run a 2nd copy for GGPO to work. However, this is capcom’s bullshit answer as ponder as said its totally possible and capcom wouldn’t even let him try. Now the DBZ game is gonna have it and the rumors about ttt2 having it are bringing more light to 3d ggpo games.
There was a really easy answer for mvc3 online. Reuse all capcom 2d sprites. You can go to a2\a3\cvs2\mvc2\mvc1\xvsf\mshvsf\vampire savior\cyber bots. There are a shit ton of fighting characters to use just based on capcoms 2d library. Now, you take all the characters you think that could work in the game and give the normals new properties and change the engine.
Now, you have a game that isn’t very heavy on the CPU, implement great game design and slap ggpo on top of it. If capcom wasn’t so worried about baiting in scrubs from other 3d genres with a fancy light show on the screen, perhaps we could of gotten a game that allowed for better net code.
the problems with 3d and ggpo have been known since what, 2k8\9 with sf4 online? before even starting this project, capcom knew ggpo couldn’t have worked and they would of needed to use the sf4 net code again but instead of being up front about it, we keep getting the corporate BULLSHIT run around.
its either reuse ancient sprites and get a good game with great net code
or
implement 3d graphics, good game design and shitty ass net code
graphcs don’t mean shit folks. Its all about the game play, thats why people still play ST till this day. Fuck, you still have people playing the original donkey kong on the arcade really hard. The fun factor is not directly related to the graphics for fighting games. The fun factor is directed to 2 things these days, how fun the game is offline with friends and how fun the game is online. If the online is incredibly fun, you get dedicated fan bases that far surpass fighting game #'s like with the fps\rts\and WoW scenes.
