MvC 3 Netcode

I LOVE this game, and would love to play it. Really. But with the way online is, my interest is waning. I can beat up on the cpu all day long, no worries. But that’s not making me get any better. I have friends who live 10 minutes away from me and we can’t play online. THAT’S bad. No other game has done this for me.

Capcom, I love you, but you sent MvC3 to die.

I agree with the netplay being shit. It’s reminiscent of guilty gear xx reload for the original xbox with the massive input delay. How many years ago did that come out? 7? I dont know but lol at the speed of light.

I played a few matches that were somewhat good but it should still be better. I wasn’t the biggest fan of ssf4 netcode but at least its solid with players that arent far away. I can’t say the same for MVC3.

I really hope they patch the online. It does seem incomplete with the 8 man lobby and no spectator mode nonsense. Maybe they’ll tune up the netcode? Probably not but it would be nice. I would have loved ggpo for this as well as ssf4 but thats not going to happen. At least improve on the current netcode.

I’m glad this thread is here. I’ve been in training mode since the game came out(dabbling in arcade to test out those combos), but the netcode… what happened to that “speed of light” sh*t? i remember reading that article Ono said that and thought I was gonna be set for the next 10. NOT. I’ve installed the game, cut off sources that use my net, and gave it a try and there is still noticeable lag. I play execution tight fighters and im always frames off doing loops. I know it isn’t my tv because it has no response time lag.

They can accelerate the net play and switch it up through DLC, right?

Theoretically they can do anything with DLC that they could (shoud) have done during development. It’s just a question of whether they’ll devote the resources to fixing it that it will require. It’ll require a lot since there’s so much wrong with it.

Well, they at least confirm they’re working on a fix for the player/ranked match issues. They’ll hopefully look into what they can do for the netplay in general.

shoultz here

remember all that bitching I did months ago about how net play should be very good out the gate? now look @ this steaming POS we have now, its fucking trash online. Its impossible to time anything even on a green bar connection as mixup and I live in the same city and could not land basic combos.

remember that lightning fast net code they praised for mvc3? crapcom is here!!!

oh yea, fuck all you idiots who kept bashing me for talking about net play like it wasn’t important. Now here we are with DLC characters and trash net play. Scrubs win again but we all lose.

No they won’t.

Thankfully combos require almost no actual timing. It’s like you can queue up inputs 3 or so ahead, it’s weird as shit.

Lack of spectator is just lol. In a week i’m sure everyone will have a lot fewer problems getting into matches. Capcom undershot to cut back on costs i’m sure but when the surge of players in the more densely populated areas tapers off it’ll even out. Bumpy start but I doubt it’ll cause longterm problems.

After playing training mode for hours and actually learning more complex combos (like zero charge shot combo where you have to link st.L after forward H) and even block strings the online seems even worse then I originally thought, It’s too damn hard to do any of that shit. I have to do dumbed down versions of whatever I practiced. Not to mention blocking is all types of fucked up with the lag.

This shit is terrible

I don’t care how many people say it’s fine, you are out of your minds. I’d actually be happy if it was even as good as ssf4’s netcode compared to this. At least when playing people in my state ssf4 runs great. Not the same deal with mvc3.

The netcode is terrible and it encourages people to not really learn how to play.
So far the only people I’ve seen are people that stay at full-screen and spam unibeam/psionic blast or people that practice ONE good combo and try to link into it the WHOLE time. This usually leads to low-short spamming shenanigans and it works because the netcode is so bad.

Not being able to see how’s the connection between you and your opponent is really frustrating…
Have to play laggy matches since I don’t want to ragequit

Input lag on ranked matches is atrocious, but I chalk that up to how poorly the system is designed in that regard. I understand the need for anonymity to prevent boosting, but even a list of blank names with connection quality to choose from would be amazing.

5-bar player lobbies is where its at though, input lag is nearly negligible. Not perfect, but very playable.

FAILED TO JOIN GAME SESSION MY ASSHOLE.

I didn’t realize how crap it was until I realized pressing back wasn’t, in fact, blocking until second later when I didn’t need it lol

What is “lag”? I see people complaining about it back and forth, but I don’t exactly have any firsthand experience with it…

Seriously. Any combo I can do in training mode, I can do online. Check the Phoenix combo thread. One of my own combos is in the first post. You don’t even have to scroll down more than a couple of lines. You’ll see a combo that does around 480K for a long ass string. I found that and I have landed it in almost every match I’ve used Phoenix in.

That said, I COMPLETELY agree that this game as shit for online features. This game is horrendously incomplete.

I think the netplay is fine, and I’m one of those idiots that plays on wifi! For the most part I can hit my combos with a little bit of adjustment. To expect it to be anywhere close to having a person right next to you is being naive.

Sometimes I get accidental Tenderizers with Skrull, sometimes it’s a little hard to block mixups, and sometimes a missed pushblock has me eating a 100%, but I think those are few and far between for a game that goes this fast.

Some things they did drop the ball on definitely are features. What’s up with no spectator? I think that’s unacceptable especially coming from the company that pretty much set the bar at it being available.

Also maybe I’m doing it wrong, but why is there no immediate “rematch” option in 2 person lobbies? You can do it when you get a random challenger so you can beat them 5-0 without having to go to character select every time, but when I want to do it to my friend no dice? Shame on you, Capcom.

Fortunately the game is really fun and should be around for a long time, long enough for it to only get better. Haters gonna hate.

no sane person could call this net code “good”. Its impossible to say that. The simplest combos, magneto’s mini rom for example have to be done so far off from the timing, you’re actually practicing bad timing by playing online.

I’ll break this down again so you guys can figure out why it sucks. ssf4\mvc3 6 use a form of net code that has to use input delay. In these games cases, the input delay is anywhere from 6-10+frames of input delay. What that means is that the game online will wait 6-10+frames before even triggering the input. Think about c.viper in this game who can do ground pound, jump cancel, ground pound. You have to do the jump cancel ground pound in under 3 frames to prevent leaving the ground. With 6-10+frames of input lag?

this is no different than playing on a flat screen tv that produces input display lag. Its the exact same thing. Now if its bad to use a tv with input delay, why is it ok when the online net code has it? ggpo certainly doesn’t lag this bad unless someone is being a dumb shit by playing on a wifi connection while downloading.

certain characters can be played online due to not having many hard inputs. Wesker for example can be played online pretty effectively cause he doesn’t have any tight links. He’s pretty straight forward in his game so online doesn’t really affect him. Now when you get link heavy character or characters with long ass combos, online becomes a problem because of the numerous amount of timing issues you must do with input lag now a factor.

Are you people telling me that MvC3 online is worse than TvC online for the wii wifi? Worse?

No, there must be some kind of mistake. Or a misunderstading of some sort.

Failed to join session over and over, nearly half second input lag in the matches I did manage to get into, and I can’t even hardly play with my friend due to the lag. I’ve been playing MvC2, SF4, and SSF4 completely fine with this same person since their respective releases. I really hope capcom patches this shit soon

Gotta agree here. Awful netcode.

I never felt in control for the most part. Nearly all of my combos were fucked up online. I couldn’t even perform simple bnb combos with certain people like Dante and Zero. I had no idea the netcode would be this bad. I know they said they were going to work on increasing the connections for matches or along those lines, but man, the netcode needs serious tuning. My experiences with Super Street Fighter 4’s netcode was much better than this. Seriously.

Exactly… Not to mention the SSF4 netcode isn’t even that good but when playing local players (usually within the tri state area) its good for the most part. Can’t say the same for mvc3.

I actually have noticeable input lag (probably around 3 or 4 frames) when I tested the online with a friend that lives about 1/4 of mile away. What the fuck? Really? I’m pinging 11 to my local isp too. Even other games that use the input lag method don’t have as much as mvc3. This shit doesn’t even work well for players that are close to each other…
