what else could I start on besides FL? I have this feeling im gonna be sampling alot. and some other good programs to start on.

Use Cool Edit if ur gonna deal with a lot of samples

Thanks. bet Im gonna start on some n00b stuff tomorrow ASAP (although I have no idead what im doing)

okay. hmmm which should I learn reason or cubase? note Im a total noob to producing as a whole.

Get a demo and a tutorial, figure out what you want to use.

S1 uses Reason, M-Phazes uses Cubase. I only mention that to make your decision that much harder.:arazz:

Can’t seem to find a way to my problems with this distortion I keep getting with my high frequencies… never the less my latest work is up… a remake of a song I did last year, Winter’s Grace, now it’s back and more trancey than ever lol.

some new flavor: http://www.myspace.com/ricethebeatchef

Don’t you hate it?

This probably only applies to me, because I’m the only person I know who works extensively in a FL8 Demo program, which has everything you’d hope for… except a save feature.

so I was working on my new track last night, making beats, sounds, melodies, whatever… having it all mapped out on the pattern list. So I’m kinda satisfied with what I had so far, so in the early morning, I decide to leave my CPU on to work on it some more later tomorrow (today).

I wake up today, and fool around with it, nothing major comes up, so I still leave my computer on since I can’t save, I run FL8 in the background. I go about my business go out, to the post office, get some lunch.

All good right?

I come back to my computer after an hour or two outside, to work on my track during my day off, the computer still on so I’ll just jump back into it.

Except, I couldn’t jump back into it… something happened when I was away, that made the CPU restart… and I lost all that work. Where am I now with it?

I’m deciding whether or not to go back into FL8 Demo again and redo all my work…it’s not as complicated as it should be, as its 95% FL plug-in’s. I just may do it :frowning:

Here is a link to where you can hear what I had going…

EDIT: The track I mentioned (Chicane - Low Sun (NsH Star Lit Night Remix) is now up

You should just pick up fl 8. It’s obviously worth it.

or if you want to sketch shit down in a similar interface, play with the free LMMS.

Yea, your right, it is worth it. I’ll need a new computer though, the one I have now is pretty dated.

I was talking to aakurtz and he strongly suggest that I try to learn Cubase although im just starting out.

Anyone have any tips/programs for hiss reduction or a general mastering guide? Also can anyone recommend a good quality mic?

Thx in advance.

Cubase is great. But why does he suggest it and what do you use currently? Logic/Cubase are pretty popular for people who do a lot of in the box writing with synths and samplers. But if you are just recording a band or something you have like a ton of options.

mic for what… recording vocals? Whats your price range and keep in mind having a good space to record in will actually do a lot more for your recording than a mic.

If this is like bedroom recording I would recommend getting some acoustic foam and getting an SM57. Set it up in your closet or something, it will be a huge improvement for a few hundred instead of dropping like 1k on some insane mic. This is also assuming you have a decent audio interface and mic pre. Running a mic into your computer onboard soundcard is always gonna suck

Ive only used Waves stuff for removing hiss but it works pretty well. I believe the package is called XNoise

Yes for recording vocals, as for price, no more than $120. I have a mixer for mics, so it wasn’t going to go to an onboard soundcard, that said what *is *the best way to record?

Lastly what is “Waves stuff”?

I used to use the FL demo back when I was in my “making music at no cost” period, but I always exported patterns to .wav as a way to save my work, then I used the .wavs in another free (now outdated, rip Massiva) sequencer that let me save.

New track up: Sippin’ on the Curervo

I made it fast sippin’ on some Jose Cuervo + iced tea late at night 2 days ago.

That ReSushi song is mad nice.

That reminds me I got some new stuff too. “WilDrums” and “10 Pianos”.
Both are on Myspace.

I’m just having a problem with my midi keyboard, although it might be my computer or something.

I just got a Axiom 49 like 2-3 weeks ago, and I was planning on getting some shit done right after midterms. I haven’t even touched it till now.

So I plug it up and it’s all ready to go. FLStudio and Reason pick up the keyboard and I could play the instuments just fine. But when it ocmes time to actually record something, that’s when it gets all weird.

The notes show up in the piano roll, but they won’t play.
Another time I actually got it to record, but it won’t show up on piano roll. Only on the step sequencer, in which case I wouldn’t be able to quantize notes or anything.

Anything I might be doing wrong? Don’t wanna think I dropped 300+ for nothing…
