Yeah it was never about the hack, hence the whole reason they skipped it in the finale.
Honestly, the show reminds me of Eureka 7 in this sense. Eureka 7 was always about the love story between Renton and Eureka, it was just framed with giant surfing robots of death. For Mr. Robot, it’s all about the character study of Eliot, framed by taking down a huge, evil conglomerate. The framing is relevant, but ultimately only exists to push the character study forward.
No one would have cared about that shit if this wasnt linked to hacking, and indirectly linked to anonymous. If this was just another psychological drama on usa about some boy from nyc, we wouldnt care, and it would not have its own thread on this forum.
Nerds flocked for the hacking, and then it gave us some IT accuracies. Then it feigned off a bit from that, but the drama bug has already bit you, so youre naturally sucked in by basic marketing 101.
But it was never ABOUT the hacking. You’re right, it wouldn’t get the rep it did without the hacking…which is why they chose it as the framing device in the first place.
The actual hacks themselves though…who cares? The show lives and dies on Eliot and his psyche. That’s been the case since Episode 1. All the hacks be damned, if Eliot wasn’t as he was, very few people would’ve cared. He’s the show.
Word. Its just annoying to use hacking to push an okay drama, since there arent any good tv shows on it as is. If eliot didnt have a split personality, it wouldnt have mattered. People would just be clamoring as to why he thought his father was dead, but he wasnt.
Without the hacking, the show is a light version of shameless, which for me, has long since jumped the shark. I think the acting is great, the story while predictable since like episode 2 max, is still able to keep some part of you going.
Its just a drama that will have hacking now and then, which is fine. I just wanted the opposite, or a better, non rushed balance of the two. While the shows cast is still in the dark for us, leading us to guess why theyre involved, and how they got recruited. The way it has been written, i dont really care about them at all.
I understand your frustration on that end, just saying how it is. And the limited perspective on everyone else is the downside of basically seeing everything through Eliot’s eyes. We have no reason to care about fsociety, no reason to care about taking down E Corp (hell, up until a certain someone going full asshole in the end and Colby, we hadn’t really seen E Corp do anything wrong to begin with) and hell, no reason to care about Tyrell except to be creeped out by his absurdly evil wife.
Really, the biggest reason the show is doing how its doing is Rami Malek. He basically has to carry the damn show on his back.
Blondie is such a tool. Just a fragile egg of self-loathing and low self-esteem. Working for the enemy, nesting in a den of psychopaths, all for what? If she doesn’t have an elaborate endgame I’ll be sorely disappointed.
My main issue the last 3 eps is with Elliott’s fam, why won’t they get his schizo ass some help? His behavior is so blatantly erratic that it jeopardizes everyone, especially himself, and yet they play it off again and again.
I really hope Tyrell is dead, however unlikely. Fuck that guy.
The season ending with über rich “1% of the 1%” sitting in a luxurious room was a nice touch, basically showing us that this fantasy of fatcats casually making decisions that affect everyone is a reality. White Rose hovers over both sides of the fence (no pun intended), which makes for an interesting season 2.
All in all, an enjoyable finale, the music was the highlight. It captured the insanity and obscurity well.
The therapy and meds show that they HAD gotten him help. He just chose to ignore said help.
He was my initial choice earlier on when I thought the father would be too obvious. His wife was looking at Elliot really oddly she barely blinks, the whole interaction feels eerily similar to the ones he has with his sister. However the dude’s PA didn’t recognize Elliot.

And, Elliot came into his crib strapped to pull the team back together, holding the threat of his life over him. He doesn’t have to go nearly that far with anyone else, so of course the animosity will be there when he was out and had a good thing going. Might have to go back and see if that was the same gun Darlene acquired and ruined the grip with popcorn buttah

But, Elliot’s enemies definitely size him up and use everything they can against him, so I wouldn’t put it past them at this point.

I think that Tyrell is alive and trying to steal the credit and run with it. He had failed in his quest for corporate dominance and how hes going to latch on to significance some other way, by stealing Elliotts thunder. If you watch the Mr.Robot video you see that the eyes behind the mask are blue and Tyrells.
Not sure about the first part but yeh its definitely Tyrell behind the mask.

Wednesday Season 2 Starts
Behind the scenes and interviews 1 hour “Mr. Robot decoded” was all over the place, on different channels SyFy maybe TNT too in weird timeslots but caught it twice to see it all. Putting in hours of graphic work to show something on screen that would be legitimate, even if its shown for 1 second was nuts. But if they have people scrutinizing every screen shown on the show, fanboys, then it would be necessary to have it look as real as possible.

Romero opens the door to the Arcade and only looks at Elliot like, what the fuck man, you work here.
Crazy that they never went into Darlene has to tell everybody ‘He’s just like that sometimes’ if he’s walking around talking to someone nobody else sees.
They should put those episodes up, including all the pop-up-video style tidbits and factoids.
