Money is only part of the equation. In terms of having a great cast, soundtrack, action, CGI, story, character development, an Amazing lead, etc. Nothing else in 2019 comes close.
Alita has been one of those movies that DELIVERS on every aspect, with no particularly weak points.
Partially CGI. As for the eyes, it’s kind of like watching an actual anime. In that, you get used to the eyes before long and ‘forget’ about them. If anything, they add to her charm.
Im calling stupid dumb shit on the fact its only the 4th fucking month of 2019, you cant even make that kind of fucking claim. That kind of dumb shit is why Stu is asking you to shut the fuck up. Its the dumbest kind of hyperbole, and it’s so fucking annoying. I LOVED Alita. I waited over 10 years for this movie. I’ve read the Manga multiple times and was so fucking hype…and even I want you to shut the fuck up about the movie.
My must see movies of the year (so far) are Godzilla: King of the Monster (this is my number one must see if the year. I’ve been waiting for a Kaiju cinematic universe since before I can remember), Detective Pikachu, John Wick Chapter 3 and, Won’t You Be My Neighbor?.
Honorable mentions are Hell Boy because I grew up reading the comic much to my moms chagrin. She thought it was a comic about worshiping Satan. Lol. This is the same reason she wouldn’t let me have any Nightcrawler from the X-Men toys because she thought he was the devil. Despite me telling her several times he was catholic.
And I just want to see end game to see what kind of ass pull they use to undo the snap. Time travel, alternate earth, Captain Marvel pulling a Adam Warlock and deep diving into the Soul Stone etc…
Oh, spider-man far from home kinda has my interest? I like Gyllenhaal a lot as an actor so I want to give him money.
OH! I forgot Hobbs and Shaw. That’s going to be a beautiful over the top, ridiculous, absolutely fucking stupid brain dead action flick and I for one can’t wait.
And of course how could I forget about the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. That’s going to be a beautiful disaster. Literal 2 hour dumpster fire
I also forgot Detective Pikachu (hoooow) but I added it to the other post. That is another movie I’m super hype for.
As for Hobbs and Shaw I just want to see the rock punch shit, throw bitches out window and watch Idris Elba as a super soldier kick the shit out of him and Statham
Wrong. We don’t know that yet. Sad to say, it’s box office was very underwhelming. A movie THAT Good should have made at LEAST 600 million. I also question if it really broke even…
…if it did, it was just barely. It can’t have made that much profit either. If they make a sequel? It will be on Good FAITH. That the fans and word of mouth will have spread sufficiently from the first one by then, to make the sequel a success.
If i was an investor and only cared about the $$$ and knew nothing of the movie? I would NOT have been impressed by those numbers.
It wasn’t a “Perfect” movie but, what it got Right? Far Overshadowed any flaws it may have had. The movie was Glorious!
Even early in the year, Alita has already ESTABLISHED itself among 2019’s Best. It was That Good. Accept it.
And i’ll keep talking about it, till something comes along thats on-par. Which nothing else has. But feel free to keep whining lol.
I’m sorry you don’t have much knowledge on the Box office stuff but, a general rule of thumb: Bare minimum, a movie needs to make at LEAST 3x it’s budget to be considered profitable and officially a success.
Alita with it’s 170 million budget (plus any marketing costs), didn’t come anywhere near that number. And it just BARELY scraped past 400 million at the tailend of it’s run.
That is NOT good. If i was an investor looking at those numbers? I would not be eager to put my support down on a sequel. Home video sales help but, that’s secondary. The box office is the real vote by the consumer.
Another point with this film is that it’s made by Fox who is now owned by Disney. Would Disney be as likely to make a sequel? They have many blockbuster franchises like MCU ,Star Wars etc and it may be a lower priority.
