Just came back from Ad Astra. It’s a pretty good movie of what could happen with space travel as we know it. Nothing really that much science fiction about it. Yes, I shed some tears in the movie. You will too…

Oh and if anyone cares; the 3rd Star Wars IX trailer (read, new trailor) plays in the previews for Ad Astra. I saw it in XD format (which is almost like IMAX).

I remember jerking off to Salma Hayek as a teenager. Shit I’d still do it now to 2019 Salma with the right pics

Just got out of Ad Astra.

It was pretty cool. It didn’t blow me away or anything but it was really cool. It didn’t really pick up until the 2nd hour though (it’s a 2 1/2 hour movie) and the ending imo was pretty flat. It was still a good watch though.

I was going to see Rambo but I just wasn’t feeling it after Ad Astra.

Hella interesting. That’s a day 1.

Uncharted movie sets sights on ANOTHER Director to helm the movie.

It really shouldn’t be this hard to make an Indiana Jones movie…

I don’t think that Uncharted needs to be a movie.

I agree, but that has very little to do with wether a movie gets made or not.

I went to the theater recently and finally saw Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood and It: Chapter 2. They were not what I expected.

Out of all the Quentin Tarantino movies I have watched Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood is the most poorly cut but it still has great scenes. The transitions between past and present scenes and narration bits are especially jarring. The scenes with Margot Robbie in the role of Sharron Tate act as a third wheel for the entirety of the movie and just feel like they are there for sex appeal. The film is otherwise centered around the personal, business-oriented relationship between an insecure aging cowboy actor named Rick Dalton (portrayed by DiCaprio) and his loyal stuntman, Cliff Booth (portrayed by Brad Pitt). The scenes with Booth denting a car with Bruce Lee, making a tire slashing hippie change his tire in the middle of a commune, and dismantling a group of home invading Manson followers while tripping on acid are absolutely unforgettable. Equally as memorable are the scenes with Dalton interacting with his young female costar on the set of the pilot episode of a new Western show (particularly his impromptu villain portrayal and dismay when he realizes the book he is reading parallels his own life) and getting spooked by a crazed gun touting hippie while relaxing on a pool float. Unfortunately, all that awesomeness gets dampened by the pacing and extraneous scenes that should have just been part of the special uncut edition.

When you are alone in a theater (as I was) and a horror film fails to make you feel uneasy it has failed epicly. I was on the verge of falling asleep during It: Chapter 2 and it shocked me how bad it was in comparison to the first chapter of the remake (which was really captivating) and original TV movie (which had a lot of great chemistry and charisma on display by the adult cast). It was almost comedic as in the original adaptation most of the adult characters had achieved considerable professional success but the new adult versions had an ironic shortcoming (The writer cannot write an ending to save his life, the comedian is not funny, the risk assessment expert makes the worst decisions, the architect has difficulty designing buildings catering to his client’s needs, etc.). It also did not help that the new actors didn’t have any chemistry and showed little charisma. The biggest issue however was the use of CGI over practical effects in this movie and to a lesser extent the new unfathomable real form of the monster. The CGI across the film was really jarring (worst undead ever) and the actors certainly did not seem to exactly know how to react to a lot of it. I was also bummed about the removed scenes about the wife of the writer being taken by It and being rendered catatonic until an emotional and thrill induced breakthrough. Oh and the agenda forced violent assault on the obviously gay couple in the opening, noble suicide letter, and be yourself messages I could have done without. I am also not sure how to feel about the monster psychologically manipulating people’s insecurities in addition to the usual bait and fear-inducing hallucinations.

If there was a way to stitch the remastered adult scenes of the original and the kid scenes of the first chapter of the remake I would hold the resulting film adaptation of It in very high regard.

P.S. During my stay at the movie theater I was also startled by how packed a viewing of a chick flick like Downton Abbey was in comparison to any other film. (I went there to kill time between movies and had a good laugh at a high strung butler comedically tending to British Royalty.)

Primal trailer…

Nicholas Cage’s current look reminds me of the lesser twin in 2002’s Adaptation. Is this intentional?
