I liked the first one, and the second and third were OK. I need to watch them again as an adult. Some of the themes probably hit better now than they did back then.
First one was good but like Tarantino said, the fact that sequels exist kinda makes the first one a little worse. It was fine just as standalone movie. There are a lot of good concepts explored and they go down the toilet once Zion and other shit gets introduced.
I have to disagree with you on that. Sequels to me are optional expansions and I always judge them on their own merits.
To me The Matrix was style over substance but they lost more and more substance with every sequel. It is sad that The Thirteenth Floor was overlooked due to its success as it had much more developed themes and an interesting plot.
Matrix was groundbreaking with those badass special effects like when they do flips off the wall and shit. It almost made it bearable to watch Ted do Kung Fu.
I could ONLY see the Matrix sequel (reboot?) being interesting if they’re able to do something new that’s as mindblowing as bullet time was the first time around. That’s how far the series went down in the toilet to me with the second and third movies. You gotta part the sea to get me interested. Maybe I’m being hyperbolic, but I see “terrible idea” all over this movie’s face, neck and back.
The first matrix movie was really something special, but the sequels went down some odd psudeo-philosophical tangent and the series really lacked direction. The third was flat out dull and boring as hell.
Outside of the John Wick franchise, the only thing I can thing I’ve see him in since the last Matrix movie that I enjoyed was Man of Tai Chi. I like Keanu but he’s not some massive box office hit maker.
Yeah. As much as I like Keanu, I can’t even name much he’s been in after the Matrix movies. Plus, with The Matrix series, even this new school of fans Keanu has from his resurgence would have to go back and watch the other movies if they want to know more about it. I can’t imagine most of them coming away excited for Matrix 4 after watching those sequels.
I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. In some ways they operate in different spaces. I see Terminator as a sci-fi horror and T2 as sci-fi action.
