So one last question from me until there are some more posts from others talking about good Demon set-ups:
Why the hell does JR use jumping crossup lp jap demon so much and have it work so often?
Done late enough it doesn’t give the opp. much time to react I guess. Still, good players should see it coming from a mile away since everyone knows he loves it.
p.s. JR you’re an Akuma/Gouki monster, much respect.:woot:
I can’t say for certain what the players who get caught by that setup are thinking, but in my experience if your opponent whiffs a jumped attack the instinctive reaction is to poke/throw/some type of punish when the hit the ground.
However if Akuma activates demon close in that scenario they opponent will simply eat a demon.
It does work because alot of players don’t try to punish every jump. It simply isn’t always an option with the 3s game engine. It is that reluctance to punish jump (and Akuma’s wide array of air options) that allow such a setup to be useful.
As far as other demons setups, I personally believe that dash demon is the best demon.
Can anyone help me out with the inputs for “Darktien” demon? I input shoryu motion + lk, then directly after lp,lp and finally as Akuma is about to land forward, lk, FP. What am I doing wrong?
I do it slightly different I do the LK demonflip LP,LP, cancel demonflip with any kick, forward, LK, HP. On another note I never noticed that if you cancel demonflip with a punch you can hold down to be in a crouching position. Maybe useless but it might buy time to perform a “false” Darktien demon.
Also here is another way which might be easier for you. LK demonflip LP,LP forward (during his decent) cancel demonflip with LK, HP.
You should try spacing out the inputs, I also had trouble with this one but what I did (before) was input srk+lk lp, lp (early ascent) … f+lk, hp (late descent). But this will make the game not recognize it as the same input so I tried srk+lk lp, lp (as late as possible without getting the overhead punch), forward, lk (cancelling as early as possible but still getting a cancel), hp and this has worked alooot better for me.
Without the demon flip, try inputting the raging demon as slow as humanly possible. You’ll be able to see everything beside the fierce (cuz that’s when it activates). and try doing that during the demon flip.
The jabs need to come in before the peak of the jump, the forward should come just before the lk and the lk itself should obviously be timed to late-cancel the demon flip.
There’s actually enough lenience that when you get the hang of it you can walk forward slighty before pressing fierce. Practice is really what it takes. And if it helps just pick one strength of demon flip and get the hang of it. The timing is the same regardless of how the far the jumps go.
Really besides punishing a whiffed move or luckily landing the far standing hk to demon combo, it really depends on your opponent imo. Reading them and deciding what they’ll fall for under pressure is the hard part to me. All of them aren’t too bad execution wise with a little practice. I enjoy busting it out in the corner sometimes while being pinned down in a GJ combo. Doesn’t always work but you get to be like “yea, try that shit again lil’ boy,”
That’s true, however not all demon setups are as contrived as others. For example, compare low short, kara demon, to fp x lk tatsu x fp x lk tatsu (whiff), demon. Low short is used a lot, for a variety of things, while the latter setup is something really only done to setup a demon. It works just cause most peoples natural reaction is not to jump when they see you whiff tatsu, but really the only time you use it is to setup demon, or if you’re on some real next level shit, to take advantage of someone expecting demon. you’d never use it without 2 bars tho.
Yea, making them fear you have it is a big deal really. I’m a KKZ guy myself ever since I learned that reset. Shit rocks too hard. I fear that worse than the demon set ups when I’m on the receiving end.
About KKZ, it is the first move and reset I have ever attempted and it made me feel limited as a pad player. With pad, anything I’ve ever attempted I have eventually been able to execute with above average success rate. But KKZ resets… Just can’t do them on pad
I’ve been trying TKD for years and I have only ever done it like 2 times. I have been able to do one by cancelling almost every normal (including air whiffs and c.lp whiff on wakeup).
The way I land demon on people is pretty trashy but it’s either from bnb s.hp reset or on their wakeup from a whiffed s.hp bait or something.
I’ve been playing around with a demon set up for a little while now. Not sure how practical it is but here goes.
Dark Tien Demon (cancel flip off normal then demon as empty flip lands) is one of my favs. So what I’ve been trying to work out is something like this: on knock down do empty demon flip and cancel into demon as they get up. I’ve been able to pop it in the face and also get it to cross up. The timing can be tough though.
I was messing around against yun yesterday and was trying back throw, wait a second, dash then demon flip as the dash ends and bust out the demon as the flip lands in yuns face. Obviously you’d need to set up an expectation that you’d do something like throw or cl.mk or whatever by doing this setup earlier in the match. I need a lot more practice to make it viable and I imagine it would require different timing for many chars.
