Because they were never going for photo-realism. They were trying to emulate the look of some of Bengus’ early art. A lot of the things people complain about the SFIV artstyle such as bulging muscles, giant hands, etc. are hallmarks of Bengus’ art circa 1994-95.

Looked like an interesting fighter. But (ironically enough) a fight sim doesn’t really capture the hearts and imagination of the FGC. That and it was obscure.
Sure. Problem is they did a bad job at it.
Compared to ST, Hyper Fighting doesn’t get much love even though, IMO, it’s a much more fun, solid, and pure SF2 game than ST will ever be. So i guess it’s underrated in comparison to other games in the SF2 series.
I LOVED Fighter Destiny 2. THe characters were over the top, the stages were cool, and it had an interesting throw break/reversal mechanic that made the matches more interesting. I also liked the point system as opposed to a straight ahead win-2-rounds-to-win type thing. It was a really fun game.
3 pages deep and not one mention of the greatest unappreciated fighting classic…
EVIL ZONE?!?!
I mean look at this shit! Here’s a vid just showing off the best specials in the cast (yeah this game’s so deep its got too many specials for a 10:57 video)
this game is so cool guys I mean c’mon this has to be at this year’s EVO main sta—

Yu Yu Hakusho Makkyou Touitsusen (GEN). A 1994 Treasure game for Sega Genesis, only released in Japan and Brasil. First FG with a combo counter, air and chain combos (it was out before SSF2T and XMEN:COTA). Very good gameplay, 10 characters, nice graphics, actractive voice acting, quite spectacular supers, outstanding soundtrack, fight on two planes a-la Fatal Fury 2 Special, and the best of all: Completely playable 4-player (be it actual players or CPU) mode in all the possible combinations. Team, 1-on-3, all vs. all, etc… Featured a training mode (a first if I’m not mistaken), only lacked proper endings for characters and a boss or secret character.

I would have added it to my list if I’d played it against humans for any significant amount of time. My time against the AI was helluva fun. The game was way ahead of it’s time, feels kinda like, well… nothing else, but it has elements of ArcSys games and 4 player modes.
God, I would love to see ArcSys, Treasure and Platinum team up to make a fighting game. 2000AD Megamix, Sin City, Waku Waku 7^2… (I’ll stop)
I remember playing the first Fighter’s Destiny, the gameplay and mechanics were unique but the character designs seemed really generic to me… and the Joker character was an asshole. I never played it in depth before, I was a kid back then, but I’m not sure if it’s competitive or not. It’s an overlooked game that’s for sure.
SNK vs Capcom Chaos…its borken yet still greatly underrated…try it its fun

MegaDrive Yuyu was hype. Actually played this alot back in the day, 4 players even. Team battle is best, especially when you get to double team a guy for longer combos.
Here are some CMVs off the web.

The last two are by a Chinese player called Fly who’s made a ton of CMVs for this game.
And yes, Guardian Heroes would not exist if not for this game.
If either DOA5U or SFxTK allowed two players on one console to play online as a team, I would play them a lot more.
imo Akatsuki Blitzkampf is a well made game. I know it sorta had a scene for it, but it’s one of those “solid overall” packages, not just as a fighter, but also a game (talking about the PC version, yes i know it had an AC/Naomi update…) really wish that game would get a proper sequel update… maybe after UNIEL? :3

I’m pretty sure TTT2 has that for online play, if that helps.
Samurai Shodown 6. I know even in that series people tend to go with 2 or 4, but I played them all at once when I got the anthology and got obsessed with 6. So many characters, so many ways to play, the spirits/grooves you could choose from! It had the kind of balancing problems a game with that big a roster and all the grooves would have but it was always fun.

Pretty sure you can do this with SFxT on PS3.
Virtua Fighter easily. People respect it, I get that part. But too many people write it off as hard when it’s actually easy to learn and then fun even at that basic level of learning.
