Most Skill Based Fighting Game?

wow someone took 50 points off my rep cuz i said Marvel :bluu: I’m usually not one to complain but its wack cuz they didn’t have balls to place their name, this thread is about opinion. Bumass dudes

But my list again

Mahvel
SSBM
VF
GGXXAC
ST

DOA

not

lol at the people who puts smash on their list

the real problem in that list is nor marvel, is ssbm, it takes away the credibility to your opinion in a heavy way :looney:, it would better if you put doa imo

Hecatom: Ive been here long enough to know how “we operate” and I think playing the game at a high level takes a certain amount of skill u gotta DI from Sheik chaingrabs, watch for Fox shinespikes, and dodge Falco SHFFLs. People who never played the real metagame claim that its bad. The dude that negged me said “Lol Marvel” I was suprised too. But lets not turn this thread into a whine fest

I think its laughable that you put SSBM above GGXXAC.

You’ve obviously never really played anyone good at AC.

I didn’t specify that it was in order i just named top 5. Im not topping one over the other cuz I can’t play GGXXAC the way i know some people can

Hyper Fighting
Balanced

Does not compute.

How not?

GGXXAC requires a lot of skill though I’d argue reload and even slash were more skill based than AC which really simplified the series, as EX’s took some thought away from the game. Guilty Gear as a franchise forces you to know the in’s and out’s of every matchup and someone who know’s what they are doing will perfect someone who doesn’t pretty readily.

Marvel - So much you have to know to just not auto-lose it’s ridiculous. Imagine if you didn’t know how to get out of certain traps? You absolutely couldn’t win also zone control is something you just have to know or you’ll die as this game has some pretty punishing shit.

SF:Turbo - game has been made into a science, top level is robotic it’s so ridiculous. You aint doing shit to someone who is significantly better than you.

I personally think Tekken doesn’t have the greatest skill gap as the game is so high dmg and the combo’s so easy, I don’t play that shit and i’ve casualed rep’d people in that game and taken games with my half-ass kazuya. 3-d really just requires a knowledge of your opponent’s moves and after that it’s really just who hits the lifter first. Skill still wins, but you’ll just lose cuz of the high dmg sometimes though.

3rd Strike - This game has a huge skill gap, there are pro twelves in japan that go to SBO.

SSBM - Really i have one of the top’d ranked guys in the nation that lives near me, i know how to do combo’s and the execution and it doesn’t account for shit against him. Skill gap in this game is HUGE, really unless your playing a bad matchup or IC’s there isn’t much luck to it.

Basically the lower the dmg, and the less “omg if this move hits i win” factor the bigger the skill gap in a game is. Also if the game has a lot of universal options that also helps, and is less based on sitting there to punish.

Hyper Fighting: Bring your fireballs and instant dizzy combos!

I agree with you. It takes a lot longer to learn the more difficult combos in KoF than it does in SF. All the characters can be played defense/offensively. Also, on higher difficulties it almost like playing against someone who knows how to play.

As for the top three games, here are my choices:
2D:
Vampire/Darkstalkers: There are things about each character in this game that makes it very skill heavy. Anakaris backdash against a wall. Talbain walking under fireballs. Demitri dash becomes a teleport. Each character has something that can help them win a match that are not dependant upon their moves. I believe this series was/is ahead of its time.

King of Fighters: See above.

Guilty Gear: Defensive/offensive play styles. Though, you are penalized for playing too defensively.

Everybody had re-dizzies.

If we are talking pure execution, I’m surprised no one mentioned Tekken. Mishimas are not easy to play. #1? Don’t know and don’t really care. Should it be in a top 10 list? Hell yeah :razzy:

Probably:

Virtua Fighter
Guilty Gear (and all its derivatives)
Marvel
Vampire Savior

Generally any game that requires a lot of technical stuff is going to create bigger skill gaps.

Melty Blood: Act Cadenza gets my vote.

KOF would have to be the most technical fighter IMO, easy choice really. It has the essential fundamentals of a SF tittle but running at a acclerated pace and with a stricter degree of execution. It’s technical depth is more expansive typically because of the varying sub-systems, you have to learn to play with more then just you’re character and you have to blend it all cohesivly.

The game me and my friends play and are best at.

Smash i guess :looney:

Street Fighter 1

close thread

The Virtua Fighter Series…hands down.

it takes master balls to master that game.
