Then you’d have to judge that person or those group of people, but not the entire smash scene. In the midwest I’ve seen poor sportsmanship from all fighting game communities. Hell I’m far from perfect myself…LOL.
But after a decade of SRK bashing Smash players. It’s getting kind of old. Not saying people should appreciate them or claim their game is top notch…just saying it’s time to just let them do their own thing. I mean if someone comes on here and says Smash is legit. Fine.
Let them.
Prove it at tournaments. Gain a nice scene. Show other communities there’s a light and there’s depth to their game.
Everyone wins.
Because the same thing can be said for all fighting games and their respective communities.
I've played 3s. And like you I use to think it was a really deep game. Seriously. Had you talked to me 4 or 5 years ago, I would have been advocating the game. Of course I always liked CVS2 above all else, but I was a big 3s fan boy. I'm not doubting there is a lot to learn about 3s, you need a lot of knowledge about option selects, and you need good execution. But what cheapens 3s is basically parrying. For me, there is less of a need to play thoughtfully, and play really loose. Sure there are mind games and all, but I always thought 3s encourages a lot of bad habits. And there is something in 3s that cheapens the game, and that's lack of emphasis on spacing. 3s in all of it's glory is all about baiting, and hit confirming. Sure there are levels to these things, but at the most that's all the game is.
ST, unlike 3s really forces you to play thoughtfully. and there is a huge emphasis on spacing and positioning. So there are serious mind games going on. And while it doesn’t seem as fancy as 3s, you have to be really creative in avoiding lockdowns or putting opponents into bad positions. For me, ST feels more like a chess match. And you need to really know your matchups, your options, and the mind games develop from that. This is a huge element that is missing from 3s. And I’m going to tell you, I am a much better 3s player than an ST player. At least in 3s I can use certain mind games to get me through. I play a shitty Urien and Chun, but I’ve been able to out smart people, and out guess them to win. Which I think is bullshit. Sure I couldn’t beat the best of the best, but I have beaten people who care more about the game than I do.
And your whole Tekken analysis is bullshit. Whoever the best Tekken player in the world is, he certainly isn’t in Miami. This is fact, as Florida has never factored into Tekken. Sure there are probably some good Tekken players down there. But they aren’t the best on the East Coast, let alone the world. Especially when you have Houston, Norcal, Atlanta, NYC, Tennesee, and Baltimore which are all places from top level Tekken play. Also, if you were to talk about Soul Calibur, again I call bullshit on that again. I doubt the best Soul Calibur player is in Florida, when you have places like Atlanta (again), Tennesee(again), France, Canada, and NJ all way more known for high level SC play. Some of our Atlanta player were considered best in the world in Soul Calibur, which was echoed on Calibur forums, and 8 way run. So I doubt you’re playing the best in either game where you are.
I could give you ST, as there are quite a few known ST players in Florida. But as far as I know they are in North Florida, and not Miami.
I hate to make this a regional thing, and bash your city. But unless you’ve been traveling, I doubt you’re playing the best or the best of these aforementioned games where you are. so until you get a sample of REAL Tekken, ST and SC players, I just think you need to enjoy your 3s fanboyism, and not make so many forward comments about games you know nothing about
Brahn don’t bother with Artryes that kid would let 3rd Strike rape him in the ass hole in a dirty alley in order to show his love for it. Dudes total fanboy for that shit. it’s been explained to him time and time again by people miles better then himself why 3rd Strike is not a super high skillg ame and he just sticks his fingers in his ears and goes LALALALALA I CAN’T HEAR YOU LALALALA. You’re wasting you time.
If 3S is your first FG and you work to become a solid player, you’d get ruined in any other fighting game.
If ST is your first FG and you work to become a solid player, you’ve already got a good head-start.
I have seen top 3S players literally meet in the air as they jump at each other, and neither of them try to attack. They land, both of them crouch blocking, before walking backward and away from each other. At first I was like “HAHA WHAT”, and then I was like “Oh right, parries.”
Seriously you guys. 3S is fun and all but it’s not on the level that SF2 was. I’m not sure anything ever will be.
To the smash players SSMB is not a fighting game that’s like saying pokemon stadium is a fighting game. It’s a party game so stop trying to convince people that it’s a fighting game.
Who MILES better than me has told me that 3S is not super skilled? you are full of shit.
and you guys saying all this shit about parries are ignorant of it who definitely don’t play 3S. just shut your mouths please and stick to your smash bros and sfiv.
and branh, yeah I lived and played in Tennessee and thats where some of the tops are from in Tekken. No one is really any better than Mickey and i played him and his crew many many times.
but to each his own. you like ST more and i like 3S more. both great games but dumbasses will talk shit on 3S about parries being the end all and all that. just dumb shit.
“guess parrying” muhaha let someone try to “guess” parry on me and I will destroy them. and anyone talking shit on 3S just play me at it on ggpo and lets see if you have the slightest clue how to play. and if anyone wins I will stop praising 3S. it won’t happen though.
whats up people Im new to the site and I see some interesting convo Id like to contribute to. Im sure someone else has probably said this already but I think the most skill based fighting game has got to be the virtua fighter series. I mean all the fighting styles are real and not hyper exxagerated there is no qrt cir punch/kick specials the game really forces you know your stuff inside and out to be an effective player
Armored Core 2 is my favourite fighting game. It’s a completely different kind of fighting game but just because you can’t accept its differences doesn’t mean it isn’t one.
Halo is also my favourite fighting game.
Gran Turismo also.
They are all my favourite fighting games.
Super Smash Bros. is my favourite flight simulator though.
Are we saying that Smash doesn’t have a health gauge, timer, or inputs that are required to punch, throw, kick, or do special/super moves to your opponent? Because it does.
Are we saying that other fighting games don’t use stock to indicate rounds won? Have you ever played Vampier Savior?
Are we denying that Smash is a fighting game because 4 people can play it at once (aka party game)? I used to think playing pair play Tekken Tag Tournament was fun. I’m sure this was used in tournaments too back in the day if I’m not mistaken.
Are we denying Smash as a fighting game because it has Nintendo characters in it? Well excuse me…Ryu hasn’t had his own action side scroll/platform game yet. Or Guile isn’t a hidden character in Medal of Honor. I think Dictator in a DDR game would be laughable…to be quite honest.
Or maybe we’re denying Smash as a fighting game because of the stages in the game? Too bad Tekken 4 had the right idea of originallity, but competitive players force EVERYONE to play on the arena stage for tournaments. I could contradict myself and say, I prefer to play on Final Destination. Do I even need to mention DOA, or ring outs in Soul Calibur/VF/Fighting Vipers/BAT/Mortal Kombat Deception and up/etc?
Man the more I type the more I must be FAILING to realize that Smash is indeed a fighting game.
Typical of me, since I been on SRK for close to 10 years.
