Most Skill Based Fighting Game?

If you want someone easy to play in VF5 try Lion.

You will be disgusted with yourself when you hear his voice but hey, anything to win right ? ;p

Maybe it’s just me but, Killer Instinct is kind of difficult when you first start out. Once you find your footing though it’s pretty easy. Then again, I don’t really know if there is an actual competitive scene for it. I’ve never heard of one.

Haha, hey! I play Lion :frowning: He is not THAT annoying…

Keep telling yourself that.

Fuck y’all Lion is twice the man he use to be, and if u lose to him all that means is you forgot to train.

Yeah man, what a knucklehead!

You all are ten years too early. And (from Hwoarang), shut up already.

Fixed.
Lei-Fei is the closest thing to Eddy Gordo that Virtua Fighter 5 has.

You just had to post a link to VF5 and remind me we won’t get that VF5R,didn’t you?

North America isn’t getting VF5R. FML.

I love how this became the VF appreciation thread.

Now all we need is more people to play this damn game. It’s too good for people to be like WAHHHHHH THE COMMAND LIST IS TOO LONG

3d fighters tend to be too easy to get away with a few lucky button mashes(you have to anticipate where to block instead of reacting which can allow randomness of a noob to get in the way). I’ll have to say guilty gear xx accent core. there’s no way in hell you’ll get anywhere mashing buttons against a good player.

vampire, guilty gear.

to me vf is too knowledge centric.

On a side note, how could VF remain so good when all of sega’s other properties have become crap? It’s like the fucking platapus of videogames or something.

What I like about VF (namely 4 and 5) is that at least 80% of a fighter’s move set can be used in a real match where as a game like Tekken only around 40% (maybe even much less) is used in a competitive match.

I feel like as you get better in VF, you expand your arsenal where as a game like Tekken, you weed out all the crap moves and stick to your main 15-30 moves.

Here is a fresh point of view. The answers is actuallly Tekken 5 DR and Tekken 6:BR? Why? First of all let’s get one thing straight VF is NOT deeper then Tekken. Tekken has an Oki system that is 3x as complicated as VFs. Tekken unlike Virtua fighter you can see throw breaks so it’s not a “I guess and try to break as many as I can”. Throws need to be set up in situations where they are unexpected so that they can’t easily be broke by seeing the hands unlike VF in which throw is throwing you guess and it could be one of like 8 different breaks. VF is also less based on spacing then Tekken is.

But the thing that puts the later Tekkens over the top is purely the fact that they are games with 35+ Characters who can ALL WIN and ALL HAVE THEIR OWN SHIT. To win at Tekken you not only need to have really really good spacing, be able to break throws on reaction, punish properly, use complex combos, know what do do in certain Oki siutations, have set ups, ext ext, like many fighting games you also have to KNOW 40 different characters and all of their set ups, tricks, punishment and what not. No other game outside of Tekken has so many options, with so many characters, and all of these characters can win.

Someone tell me the skill displayed in these matches isn’t ridiculous:

In the end VF is Overrated, plain and simple, always has been. But noobs will always think VF is so great because of shit like Akira’s knee and how hard it is too do. Truth is, it’s a great fighting games series but it’s not some god send better than all other 3D fighters. And I have yet to see a single valid reason that VF is deeper then Tekken, ever.

It’s subjective. You can’t really make that decision without being a good player in both games.

VF is all about mind games and yomi. The players engage in very deep, constant, decision making. That’s why it can be difficult for a higher level player to beat reckless, decent/average players. If those decent players don’t engage in that decision making process, they can end up being very difficult to read or predict. Usually after a long set, the higher level player will have figured the other persons patterns and they may never win again.

Two players that understand the system and engage in the defensive and offensive flows, man there really is no other fighting game like it.

VF at a higher level is the most engaging, deepest fighting game I’ve ever played, period.

Tekken is without a doubt a fun game and I wouldn’t question it being a difficult game. As you know, personally, I’m looking to get into the series with you guys upstate.

You brought up valid points of why Tekken is more difficult than VF, but honestly you won’t understand why people view VF the way they do until you become a strong player in it. I can guarantee you that most people who are saying VF is the most skill based game in this thread don’t know why either. It’s something you won’t know until you experience, it seems as if most people are just going with the flow of what others say.

Meh Tekken is OKAY in my book but I think that Tekken is over rated.Noobs hate VF4-5.Why?Cuz they can’t pick it up and mash away.

Well, you actually stated two very different points. You can also win in VF with only a few moves (not including air-combos) like any other fighting-game and you can also use majority of your moveset in Tekken depending on your character and situation.

Here are some of Ryan Hart’s matches against Japanese players in VF4:Evo:

And against Shou’s Sarah (he lost, though):

You cant do that in tekken either
