Most Skill Based Fighting Game?

I just hate the community tbh. they just beating a dead horse they took for granted. I will respect that there’s a certain level of technicality in the game but there’s np variety in high level play. Fro my point of view since I play games like GG and BB I love how the games are balanced enough that players like Dio can just go with a bottom tier character and still place well. In smash its lol no items fox only final destination. and before people say any thing I have attempted to get into the game (I played roy XD)

Its been said many times: Virtua Fighter 5

Definitely the Virtua Fighter series, specifically VF4 Evo and VF5, are probably the most skill-based fighting games made so far. Not only is the gameplay extraordinarily deep (evade/throw buffering, open vs. closed stance, importance of frame rate, and on, and on, and on, lol), but it also takes much more time to learn how to play a single character.

Why hasn’t Evo pick Virtal Fighter up? I bought the game today because of this thread and Im liking it. One of my favorite fighters so far, or favorite game period.

^ Good question.I love VF4 as well. I would get VF5 but the PS3 owners got shitted on without the online play option.

VF4EVO was at EVO twice and VF5 was at EVO2K7. There was even a thread late last year on SRK asking why VF5 wasn’t at EVO last year or this year. If VF5R comes out for consoles (it’s not though) then it will probably be at EVO2K10.

Or like (IIRC) when the guy at Arc Systems Works said that our games (Guilty Gear and BlazBlue) are more noob friendly than SFIV :lame:

Where was this?

Does that mean that first person shooters, RPG PvP modes, the secret Megaman 7 VS. mode, and Mario Kart Battle Mode are all fighting games?

I don’t remember the game exactly since it was a while ago, but one of the megaman games had a fire boss that was doing shoryukens and hadoukens and for a second there I thought he was fighting against Ken

That one match was more of a fighting game than Smash will ever be.

Hokuto no Ken. It was rated as the hardest game by arcadia, and rightly so. When pros fight each other it’s easy to get perfected. Imagine if a noob goes up against a pro?

Megaman X4’s Magma Dragoon.
That was the best of the X series, I think. Good stuff.

Piggybacking on that: a skilled player is able to mentally “cut through the chaos” much better than a less-skilled player. Faced with an amount of incoming information that would be overwhelming to a lesser player, the skilled player will (be able to) sift and sort through to identify it the only parts that matter; he sees the important parts, he sees what really matters, because he is quite literally worrying about less.

A very practical and easy example is when you’re trying to lock somebody down with mad pressure. A weaker player crumbles for you, you just break them down and they fall apart. A stronger player will just wait and block all of your shit and watch for your throw and be able to immediately spot and exploit the one opening you hand to him when you get stupid.

take it with a grain of salt

Thanks for the link.

I like Frank’s analysis.

cvs2 = greatest skill game. close thread.

I picked up VF5 today. It was my first VF game, and it’ll be my last. I’ve tried to get into 3D fighters for a long time now, but I just can’t. The depth of the game appeals to me, but the controls are just too demanding. The slightest difference in input will give you something completley different.

This isn’t just coming from some random guy who casually plays games. Two of my favorite games are Ninja Gaiden Black and Final Fantasy Tactics. I’ve dealt with some steep learning curves, but this is more like a learning wall.

Try Tekken heheheh.

You weren’t by any chance trying to use Akira, were you? Akira may be VF’s poster boy like Ryu is for Street Fighter, but unlike Ryu, Akira’s moveset is not easy to learn.

When I first got into VF with VF4, I also was put off by the steep gameplay at first. I tried learning Akira first, and god damn, I was so frustrated trying to do his Teishitsu Dantai (the knee) that I stopped playing the game for a few days. Later that week while I was at work, I was reading up on how to play Akira on the VF forums, and there I learned some tips on how to execute his moves properly, and when I got home, I was finally able to do all of his moves consistently.

VF is definitely not for the faint of heart. It’s not a game that you can pick up in a single day. My advice, try to learn an easier character first, like Jacky.

Most Skilled Base??? I would say Fate Unlimited Codes. If you don’t believe me play it and try combos. Make sure they are valid combos btw.
