Anyways I wanted to make a thread purely dedicated to everyone’s current views on who got the most significant boost from ST -> STHD.
My current vote goes to T.Hawk!
He is incredible now. His dive sets you up for grabs loads better, the recovery and stun make it so you will not always get punished on block, etc etc. Not to mention his SRK still has decent priority/invincibility. His 360 seems more solid too, as I used to miss a lot with it (Due to his low amount of jump frames).
That dive change though, I’m loving it so much.
I’m a Gief main, so that’s why I wanted to play around with Thock lately to see his differences, and boy what a difference.
Any other characters get a more significant boost???
Er, I know there’s char specific threads, but I figured my topic was more along the lines of, “who got beefed the most?” Which applies to any and all characters, and just happened to start with T.Hawk.
But if it would be more appropriate there, then my bad
I honestly think it’s Blanka. He went from pretty much bottom tier to really starting to look like top tier. The safer Blanka Ball is HUGE. It’s not just safe, but he’s got no disadvantage afterwards in terms of frame advantage. He’s right in your face immediately again. The only reaason I think he’ll not end up on top tier is if someone like Fei Long sticks around, who can punish Blanka Balls really easily.
i think t. hawk got the biggest upgrade. he went from an all or nothing character to a formidable force.
-old hawks normals
-safe dive and i think you can do it even lower than before
-easier motion for command grab
-thunderstrike (dp) always knocks down on hit
-retains his super with easy motion
I agree, Blanka has my vote. The safe Blanka Ball is so fucking amazing. Also the fact that his jab and strong versions of it go shorter distance makes whiffed balls into bites better than ever. Hell, I start matches sometimes by doing a jab ball. If they block, I stop short and bite them. If they attack, the worst that can happen is a shoryuken. What’s funny is I hit Ken and Ryu with the jab ball at the start of the round A LOT because a lot of players online can’t do the shoryuken motion fast enough, so they accidently take a step forward. Heh, that’ll teach them to try to be Miss fucking Cleo.
His Rainbow roll is the shit now. I can go over fireballs on reaction every time. Usually I use it to get midrange, and then from there I just j.HK if they throw a fast one. Fireball characters are just easier now.
Easier electricity can be reliable sometimes to thwart crossup attempts or trade. It’s badass for building meter too. Fuck the nerf on back hop meter building. Electricity works fine for that.
The foot invulnerability on the forward hop gives him some insane bite shenanigans. You can punish predictable sweeps by hopping and biting with great ease.
Hmm…out of all the changes though, I think the changes to Blanka Ball and Rainbow roll are the most important. Hell, just making the blanka ball safe instantly made him much, MUCH better.
i think blanka, guile, and sagat got the most significant upgrades imo.
sagat got a worse fireball, its still no joke, however. hes still a threat from full screen. now hes a threat with the tiger knees up close. you arent safe anywhere
blanka, for the reasons stated above.
guile. that overhead is AWESOME. gives him a free mixup on sonic boom block with the new overhead(except blanka, it wiffs on him almost completely except point blank range, grrrr), and the rh flash kick. that thing is crazy. lets him hit so many new things now, without seeming busted, IMO. plus it can close a gap really fast off a knockdown, if you like to keep invading the opponents space with pressure. plus his seemingly increased proximity range on neutral s.rh(not sure about s.forward) making it a MUCH more reliable AA. And last but not least, the SUPER. that motion, along with more reliably hitting, makes the super that much better. the crazy thing about it, is the option select. if you fuck it up, youll get a flash kick most of the time. which is not too bad for fucking up, if you were trying to go for an AA. So atleast some form of AA is coming out. not too bad. plus doing it much easier on reaction is no joke. Atleast the damage was hella nerfed to keep it scaled.
guile and blanka really needed these changes to be better… and it is really showing. sagat, eh, i think he got too much, but we will see
Guile. once he gets you in da corner, your through. dat rh flash kick controls SO much space infront of guile its rediculous. dat and overhead mixups, a cornered opponent doesnt have a chance. shit reminds me of ken’s fp dp in CE/HF. another thing, is it just me or does it seem dat he releases sonicbooms faster than in ST?
So far it seems everyone is ignoring the obvious, Honda. Yes he didnt suck in ST but jab headbutt going through projectiles(with so far apparantely the exception of Sagat high tigers) can not be overlooked.
Seconded. I rarely play Honda, but tonight I racked up more wins with him than any other character in a long set. He’s still a hoss, and I don’t feel insta-screwed when I see anyone with a fireball. Don’t underestimate him.
Blanka is sooooo much better! He and Ryu were my favorites in ST, so to see him get such a boost is wonderful. That said, Rog and Fei can definitely keep him in check if they’re not asleep. Still, compared to what he was? Sweetness.
Akuma got the biggest upgrade…tournament legality. Being actually fun to fight against now is such a step up for the bastard.
I’m a huge fan of Blanka in ST so I thought I would be a bit biased in saying that Blanka had the best upgrade but I think so as well. Safer Blanka balls makes his offense that much scarier. You can generally be more aggressive with the Blanka balls and tricky shenanigans like command hop to Vert Blanka ball are that much scarier. You don’t even have to hit confirm Blanka ball combos agaisnt some of the cast anymore.
BTW it’s nice to know that Blanka’s crouch block whiffs under Guile’s overhead. Guile having a serious overhead sounded like bad news for me at first.
My vote goes for E.Honda…I might suck…but i play with ryu, ken, sagat, gief,…and i can barely beat bad hondas…and i get rocked by any decent/good ones…its too hard for me
If you wanna talk about the most significant upgrade, that’s easily Sagat, because it drastically changed how you can play him.
Now, if you meant significant as in “moved this character up a notch” it would definitely be Guile. I think this guy is gonna be the top tier sleeper hit. People are repping blanka and sagat a lot right now, but my prediction is that Guile’s new stuff - all of which Sabre has pointed out - is going to take him very, very far.
I bet Blanka’s change is really good too, but I don’t notice cos I play Chun, and safe Blanka balls don’t mean shit in that match - she was never able to punish them anyways. I wanna see some Blanka matches against people who don’t play Chun.
I think it’s a mistake. IMHO Blanka is the hardest match up for Guile, and Blanka escaping the new overhead only makes it harder for Guile :shake: Guile should have at least got a better option to counter Blanka’s slide to compensate.
yup, guile ftmfw! imo tho, i think rh flash kick is broken, ur opponent cant be in da air at all, u cant even jump staight up on him anymore cuz of the range on it. this move takes akumas for free, shuts their air fb down and on tha ground hes just another ryu, share a fb and backfist dat shit! with dat overhead upgrade, hes a 50/50 character now like dudley in 3s.
But if your flash kick is blocked or whiffed you’re fucked when using guile, cause of that new arch/angle it goes in. But on the flipside, it allows you to go through projectiles from much farther/better, and some good priority.
The new flash kick is good, no doubt, but it doesn’t hit quite as far forward as it looks like it would. It only hits about a Jab’s length farther than the other two flash kicks. It’s not quite as scary as it appears, but it’s potent.
