Oh ya, Starcraft and Halo are huge in Japan!! What the fuck are you talking about?
Well the big bucks aren’t going to Tekken or Guitly Gear. Minus the last 2 Evos any ways. Which is still chump change compared to what both Halo and Starcraft games pull from sponsors in other countries.
I’ve always wondered why the Japanese don’t start getting real money sponsors to get some real pay for what the players do at SBO. Instead of just getting a small amount of money and prizes worth no more than what 8th place got at last year’s Evo. I guess it’s just a culture difference in Japan.
Every time I hear about anything competitive in Japan, it seems very different there. Personally, I prefer competitive gaming without all the corporate sponsors and big prizes. Then you don’t get faggy shit like cgs.
Its funny how there’s talk that Japan is so combo-crazy.
I recently read a translated interview with the Battle Fantasia developers where they talked about just that. They said that they were trying to steer away from insane combos and focusing more on Tachimawari, or what western players mainly call poking. They went on to say that the execs at Arc System Works eventually told them they HAD to make the game more like Guilty Gear with big combos, the result of which was the Heat Up system in BF.
Just some food for thought…
Well said
Look on youtube and it might be under banpresto cup as well
To give a better answer coming from my time in japan

I heard VF5 is simply much less popular than VF4 due to the fact it’s really similar to the previous game, while every other numbered installment has really changed things up a lot.
Last I heard a lot of established players stopped playing.
Thanks pal. So…What the fuck? So do peeps actually consider the series a fighter?
There still pretty fun games though. I still need to play RvZII+.
Winning money for a tournament = gambling, in Japan. Gambling in that fashion is considered illegal, which is probably why it’s so different over there. I’m sure if they were able to there would be professional gaming going on in Japan.
Aside from the big tourns, yes, you don’t win money. I’ve entered two local ones here and the best prize I’ve seen someone win was some Evangelion statue.
Funny enough, some of the best Super Turbo vids I’ve ever seen were from a tourn where first place was some trophy thing and pornography.
Sorry, it was meant to be a joke.
Again, I’m sorry if i offended anyone. I meant it as a joke. Sorry guys!
the reason why marvel isn’t popular in japan is because of square watermelons
gtfo nekoz
;_;
GG is still popular! i like how nobody cares anymore. ._.
I just said it. Worldwide Stracraft and Halo owns the money. In Japan I dunno, but I’m sure Final Fantasy, Metal Gear and what not outsells fighters.
Either way, here is some PS2 Gundam game footage:

It is a little unconventional, but its a fun game, and I actually can imagine people considering it as a competitive fighter.
