Man, especially when you have a partner that WON’T LISTEN. You’ll be fine in that stage if you both verbally arrange to take a few steps forward, kill the wretches that appear and move on. Stop when the new wreches appear, kill them then move on. It shouldn’t take you more than a minute or so.
But when they won’t listen and they keep trying to walk around it makes you want to quit playing alongside them.
That’s just Rare trying to squeeze as much gametime as they could outta those N64 cartigates. They were probably the best at doing that back in the day. Ever played Diddy Kong racing Adventure Mode?
Win every race, Collect golden balloons, find hidden keys, race againist bosses, collect all silver coins(and win the race) , beat the final boss, unlock an extra domain, win races and collect coins again, beat the final boss again, repeat all of the above again in mirror mode.
Most of that wasn’t too boring, but doing silver coin challenge in mirror mode was a bitch, and beating all the Time trials to unlock T.T. was retarded. That clock is freakin fast.
Another game that stretched out and became boring (and had no excuse for it) is Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. A series based on layin the smackdown, and you only get to do it in the first two stages? Bullshit. The rest of the game involves riding on a snake, speeding away from a buzzsaw, and keeping a ridiculously fast rodent from blowing you to pieces. I’m glad I never made it past the bike stage.
Pretty much man. I remember doing that with a friend who just wouldn’t fucking listen and it took us like half an hour on whatever Gears hardest mode is called. Shit was stupid and i about quit on him.
Try the Junker level on Gears 1 with a partner who won’t listen. Who drives at max speed directly into the Kryll no matter how many times you tell them to slow the fuck down and give you time to actually shoot them.
I’m not trying to think of the worst single moment in a videogame, but the one that contrasted so badly with the rest of it that the designers could have cut it out and had a game that was three times as good on their hands. Off of the top of my head I can think of:
-The first 2-5 hours of ANY Final Fantasy (I guess except for XI, then it’s just the entire game)
-The ship-building part in Kingdom Hearts
-Any time you went to your inventory in any Resident Evil game.
-Any of the boarding levels in Battle Toads.
-Whenever you get a ‘z’ block in Tetris. Fuck that block.
Also, while we’re talking about MGS3. The Ladder ™ was a formidable opponent, however it was nothing compared to ‘The End’. Jesus H Christ, first MGS boss battle that literally took me 55 minutes to beat not counting the couple of times he killed me.
However, recently I came across probably the most notable disappointment in a game ever. In Dragon Age. I know a lot of people are bitching about the fade parts (I don’t know why, I guess my character was built differently and as such I didn’t have much trouble with those parts), but the first time I got to camp I was crushed. When I started playing that game I got totally wrapped up in the story line. I was enthralled by each and every character and what they believed in whether I agreed or not. The world seemed to breathe and it seemed like I was the pen that would continue to ink the story. I was in love.
I proceeded to fall out of love when I empathized with the character in camp that tells you about Soldier’s Peak. I was all ready to pack up and travel until I saw the comment that said,
“Sure, I’ll help you, let me be right back! (Download new content)”
and at first I thought it would surely be free. Don’t worry that it totally interrupted the game experience but I’ll be able to continue my journeys in a few minutes. No, I have to pay $15 just to get content that should’ve been shipped with the game in the first place. It’s like the developers for the first time have said, “Hey look, we’ll sell you this game for $60” and then when you find out that they’ve made all this extra shit for a game you love you realize you’ll just have to fork over more and more dough for a game that doesn’t even get continual support in any way that isn’t requiring money of you.
Resident Evil 4 where you free Ashley from her restraints with a sniper rifle, then protect her from the ganados until she can leave that large room. When you take control of her, that’s the part I dreaded everytime I played the game through. Especially that fucking puzzle with the four knights around it, I just spam the hell out of all the directions until I get it right. Fuck.
I think any section of a game that requires you to use a skillset not required in another other part of the game, but is mandatory to move on with the plot is annoying as hell.
Like in Deadspace, when you have to get on the turrets for two sections of the game, once to shoot incoming asteroids, and one to kill a boss; those sections were INCREDIBLY annoying, especially since they forced you to use a skillset not relevant to any other section. I beat those two by pure luck alone, and felt no satisfaction after either one of them.
On the hardest difficulty I had to do that one solo because all my partners were idiots. I just had to memorize all the spawning positions and go from there.
Me and a friend tried that on Insane for a good 40 minutes to utter failure. 5 mins of solo play and I beat it LOL. He got the Insane achievement by himself later so its all good. Still, funny how this(and that part Raidant is talking about), two heads are NOT better than one.
Resident Evil 5: The second you fight Wesker to the end of the game.
Don’t even have to say anything about it.
Final Fantasy 12: The second you get to Giruvegan to the end of the game.
Long, and dull.
Sup 100 floor tower. Ugh gotta sacrifice shit to make it "harder"
ugh these bosses WATCHING CUTSCENES IN THE MIDDLE OF A BATTLE.
Tales of Smyphonia: Temple of Darkness
Shitty puzzles and blobs and you cant see ANYTHIIING.
Don’t forget every terrible moment where you have to sit through Yuna’ dancing and singing.
I never got to it when I played FFX but I wonder what goes through people’s minds fighting Penance. Some youtube vids are an hour long fighting him. And I thought Omega Weapon from FF8 was a bastard…
